Editorial Review

Sex and aliens. That's really all that was missing from the amazingoriginal edition of The Sims, and the expansion Livin' Largedelivers these new treats to liven up your beloved Sims existence.

New characters (including a gladiator and Xena-like warriors), and, moreimpressively, new decorations are the reasons to buy this game. Thefurnishingsare mostly grouped by theme, with the medieval dungeon option the mostauthoritative of the bunch. (Little Cassandra Goth has been longing toread by torch light all along.)

Our personal favorite is the futuristic theme, with an optional, butexpensive,maid/gardener robot to take care of the fabulous modern furnishings. ClearlytheSims team has been doing its research over at Herman Miller, and you'll have abright red, flowing-foam sofa to show for it.

But it wouldn't be The Sims if only good taste prevailed. Bring on themai tais with a tiki-heavy islander theme. There's also a startling collectionof carpeting and objects best grouped under the design ideal we call "dementedclown."

The attention-getting rarities include: a lame fortune-telling ball (ouradvicemostly centered around hiring a maid), a voodoo doll for hexing roommates, and agenie who delivers as much bad as good (dead plants, anyone?). And, yes, there'sa vibrating bed to give your Sims the spice they've been missing.

While the expansion didn't blow us away, it did provide more of the humor andnovelty true Sims die-hards will appreciate. With even more attentiontodetail than the original offering, EA deserves Sims-like applause forthis edition. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Livin' It Up
Livin' Large wasn't bad, but I worship it compared to Vacation as it's got variety. Livin' Large has new items concentrated in the different ways of construction of a house. Lots of new doors, windows, wall textures and roofs are added as well as decoration items to go with the theme. I use the medieval theme a lot! It even includes the Love Bed, abduction of Sims are now possible through frequent use of the telescope, and Grim Reapers appear to decide the fate of your close-to-dead Sim who you can only save by beating it to a game of Stone-Papper-Scissors (cute).

Livin' Large definately enhances the game, and it's absence would affect the game greatly unlike some other expansion packs I could mention.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Most Underated Expansion Pack
Although Livin' Large is not my favorite expansion pack, I think it is the most underated. What would we do without the telescope, chemistry set and guitar?I loved all the wacky items that Maxis added and the medieval theme. If you have the sims deluxe edition don't worry about buying it... Livin' Large is included.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ehhh... it's ok
Actually this is a great installment, but my favorite is House Party. What's great about Livin' Large is mostly the items. New items include a robot, love bed, and a lot more. Like all the other expansion packs this one more neighborhoods. I would suggest you just wait for Sims 2 to come out instead of buying more expansion packs. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Building a city is a great and noble endeavor, but sometimes you just want to let loose and have some fun. Electronic Arts lets you turn in your city manager's contract and open up an amusement park in Sim Theme Park.

Using all the strategic decision-making skills you learned from the other Sim games, you'll start with a tiny, newly built park with only a few rides, games, and concession stands, and try to turn it into an thriving must-see attraction that people will come from far and wide to visit. Of course, if this is your first simulation game, you'll still do fine--it'll just take you a bit longer to get the hang of it.

There's plenty to do: train the staff, take care of prices, maintain trails, and (of course) build new rides. One of the many clever features of Sim Theme Park is the "visitor's perspective" view that allows you to ride the rides and meet the staff as if you were a guest. This can be helpful for getting insight into why people are staying away from the Regurgitator or some other new ride. Better still, you can go online and visit preconstructed theme parks--and a little bit of corporate espionage goes a long way. Once you're feeling secure and a little cocky, post your own parks online and wait for the accolades to start rolling in.--Rob Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Game!
This is a nice game that includes an expansion pack [They call it "Gold edition"] that's already there and you can build your own rides. It is very fun and you can also ride your rides that you make !!! I love it so much, I've been playing it everyday ! Buy this !

5-0 out of 5 stars Come on, guys, this was BEFORE RTC
My Grandma bought this for me because it was on sale for only 8 dollars at the nearest Sam's club. I thought it was an AWESOME game. I actually think this is better than Roller Coaster Tycoon. Look, this was the original one, this came out BEFORE Roller Coaster Tycoon so what's with all of this complaining? RCT is a great game but it can get a little frustrating at times. This one has you're own personal guide with you that tells you what to do. There isn't just some anoying buzzing noise that goes on telling you that a customer can't find the exit or some cr*p like that. Also, I think this is VERY impressing that it was ALREADY made in 3D unlike RCT and RCT2 and it already had the option of riding you're own rides. This game is very fun and easy but it's the kind of easy/a bit challenging game. Roller Coaster tycoon is VERY frustrating and is only easy when you first start out. Come on, guys, this came out 5 years before Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and it has all the stuff that RTC3 had already. Now, this game may be a little slow but you get use to it. Also, in the front of you're park, you get to see the customers enter through busses, airplanes, [I think] boats where as RTC you just see a boring river and a boring path with boring people walking into you're theme park. These character pretty much all look different with all different faces and stuff. Also, in this game, there isn't really a tough goal or anything you have to wait to loose on. It just tells you that you get a key to another park which is just as good as completing RTC.

You think I haven't said enough? Well, in this game, you have all of these little kidey theme parks with totally different worlds [Haunted, Wonderland, Space level] where as RTC you just get a boring grassland or something and you have to jazz it up on you're own. In this game, they also give you more starting off money to get what you want when you want it. If you feel hesitated in buying this awesome game by what the others have said, ignore them and get it and forget about them. This game is awesome.

So, now you heard it from me, why don't you go out and get this game?

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for a while
I bought this game in a pack with four other games.
LUCKILY!
this game can keep you entertaind for a little while.
It ran a little slow on my computer but I got the idea. I don't think it was the best of the four games but it was cheap enough so your not getting ripped off. I have'ent won it yet ... Read more

Editorial Review

Want to build an empire without all the usual bloodshed? Try RollerCoaster Tycoon, which puts you in total control of a theme park, managing every detail from ride development to rescuing lost guests.

A simulator in the style of SimCity, this game has a simple enough concept: build a park attractive enough to draw in hoards of tourists and then separate them from their hard-earned money. This is accomplished by researching and building rides, along with amenities, gardens and decorations. Once you have your infrastructure, and the staff to maintain it, it's time to sit back and watch the funds roll in...all in hopes of building an even bigger rollercoaster somewhere else!

The big draws in a theme park, the coasters are expensive and flashy. They lure in thrill-seeking guests prepared to pay top dollar for a wild ride. RollerCoaster Tycoon even allows you to design the coasters yourself, a finicky but ultimately rewarding operation.

Despite a clunky interface and the usual simulator drawbacks--such as long waits while you acquire funds for the next ride--RollerCoaster Tycoon is an utter gem of a game. Its soundtrack, a mix of calliope music and ride machinery, is mixed with the sound of guests squealing with delight and terror as the coasters hurl them around. The sound mix is joyfully evocative, and you can almost smell the cotton candy and the popcorn.

Best of all, you can play in this theme park for hours without once losing your children or friends, getting sore feet or experiencing motion sickness. --Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
I have never played such an addicting game! The scenarios are different and fun, but the variety lacks. You get the same rides to choose from over and over again, and when you create your own roller coaster, your park guests become wimps and ignore it. The handymen are a pain to control since they never do their job and if you tell them to mow grass, it's all they do. Excellent for a game that came out before the year 2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tycoon of Tycoons
This is a great game to kick off the Roller Coaster Tycoon series and I will recommend it to anyone who likes Roller Coasters and strategy/tycoon games. You manage most all aspects of an amusement park and you get to see what Roller Coaster designers have to face when building new rides. This game really kept me thinking and playing it for a while. The layout of controls, the interface and graphics are fairly simplistic so it is easy to get used to and will not run too slow on most computers. If you already have Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 or 3, you may still want to think about purchasing this major hit. You will then get to see the major changes for yourself and get to decide wether you like any one in particular better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yay!
I never thought this game looked very good until I played it at a friend's house.I went out and bought it for the very low price of under ten bucks at Wal*Mart the next day.

It is so much fun!You can build and design your own rides, or buy ones that have already been built.Food stands, bathrooms, and souvenier stands can also be purchased as well as scenery items.Detailed information is available about all of your customers, from their feelings to how much money they're willing to spend at your park. You have a certain goal to reach when you create a theme park, and when you reach it, your name will be posted under the location name. And there are many new locations to unlock as well. You can hire handymen to clean up trash and puke, mechanics to fix and check rides, security guards to make sure no one breaks anything, and entertainers that can be dressed in a panda, tiger, or elephant suit. Also, some advice: Don't let your park entrance fee be "FREE" (If you start at $1.00, people will keep saying that your entrance fee is cheap, and you get to raise it!I got as high as $20 once!)

Overall, if you like The Sims, or Zoo Tycoon, you will enjoy this game!It is addicting, and is now a favorite of mine!I'm so happy I gave it a chance. ... Read more

Roller Coaster Tycoon Expansion Pack:Loopy Landscapes
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
CD-ROM (20 September, 2000)
list price: $14.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Roller Coaster Tycoon is one of the few games everreleased that seems to appeal to gamers of every type, and the Loopy Landscapesexpansion pack will appeal to all RCT fans. The only slight letdown isthe lack of new rides. As the name suggests, the main focus of this expansionpack is new terrain and themes.

One of the best aspects of Loopy Landscapes is that it lets youpersonalize your park in ways that weren't possible in the original game.Open ahat stall, T-shirt stand, or nearly any other shop and choose a color for eachof your items. It's a hoot to watch a herd of hapless fun-seekers walk throughyour park wearing a rainbow of caps and holding an equally colorful assortmentof balloons. We also had a blast working our way through the new scenariosincluded with the package, which incorporate all the new themes and settings(such as the icy Winter Wonderland and majestic Medieval Castles) and range indifficulty from sedate fun to frenzied puzzle solving. One of best newscenariosgives you an empty park and unlimited funds, but you only have a certainamountof time to attract 2,000 guests, and if the park rating dips below 700 youlosethe game. This effectively turned time and space into the most valuableresources in the game, requiring us to rethink some old strategies.

As an additional bonus, the complete content from the first expansion pack,Corkscrew Follies, is included on the CD. Players who already purchasedCorkscrew Follies can send in for a $10 rebate until December 31, 2000,but the process for doing so is persnickety (don't throw your box away).Newcomers to the RCT world should note that a copy of Roller CoasterTycoon is required to play Loopy Landscapes. And RCT junkieswill want to get their hands on all the new goodies Loopy Landscapesoffers as soon as possible. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • You can customize nearly everything
  • The new themes can really transform a park
  • Comes with Corkscrew Follies, if you missed it the first time around
Cons:
  • There aren't many new rides
  • We're still waiting for a design editor that lets us experiment withtracks outside the confines of the game

5-0 out of 5 stars YAY!
New rides, new food, new...everything.This is an excellent bargain add-on to the orriginal Rollercoaster Tycoon. This comes with even more parks, even more rides, and it brings even more hours of fun.If you loved the first Rollercoaster Tycoon, you'll love this. Here's why.

First, there's new stuff!!!You can do cool things like make banners, which prevents guests from entering some areas. But the high points are the new, awesome rides, parks, and food stalls.THis comes with cool new rollercoasters to build, tons of new parks, and other stuff. For example, this expansion pack has DOUBLE the amount of parks the first game had.You can experience new, challenging scenarios to beat in new areas and such.

Second, there's so much more gameplay! The first game came with endless hours of gameplay, and now...MORE endless hours!Yippie! Now you get to design even more theme parks, with new stuff! You know you want to buy it.

Third, the price is incredibly low right now. This is a great bargain, so my reccomendation is to buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Game In The World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your a fan of rollercoasters ye'll LOVE this game. The first
time I layed eyes on this game I begged and begged to have it and sure enough I got it!! Get it, see for yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Addictive... a few flaws.
This review is for the whole RCT set, including the original game.
My family loves this game, it is truly deserving of its "E" rating, since my school-age daughter, and both adults in the family have a ball with it.Scenarios range from easy through impossible (and the expansion pack scenarios are not necessarily harder than those in the original set.) While only the first person to win a scenario gets his name 'on the board', scenarios can be played, and won or lost, over and over again.
However, the game does have a few flaws.
    1. Sometimes, no matter how many times you turn the screen, you can't get a good angle to see what you are building. (Especially a problem as the park gets more crowded with rides and pathways.)
    2. We joke in our family that the people in this world are wimps. The game allows you to build elaborate coasters with steep drops, tight turns, loops, twists and more. But, in our experience, any coaster much more complex than a simple circle with a few gentle drops gets rated 'ultra-extreme' with a 'ultra'high' nausea rating -- and nobody will ride it.
    3. As a related issue, you can't stop the clock while designing and testing coasters. If you are building a complex coaster, months can tick by as you design your coaster, try to make the coaster fit the landscape (or alter the landscape to fit the coaster), test it, then make any necessary changes. In real life, of course, the planning would happen in the designer's office, and the actual construction would happen fairly quickly.

Still a favorite game in our house. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Maxis' Sim line of games has sold more than 7 million copies over time. Ten years after releasing the original, they've returned to revamp the one that started it all. SimCity 3000, like its predecessors, can't be won or lost. You create and manage the best virtual city you can, using the colorful but simple interface. At worst you'll run out of money, but by listening to your advisers and patiently zoning, developing, and budgeting, you'll see your turn-of-the-century homes become millennial skyscrapers.

You can start with a fictional model, a randomly generated terrain, or a landscape based on a real geographic location. As you balance transit, commercial, and industrial needs (to name a few), place famous landmarks (like the Eiffel Tower), make deals with neighboring cities, and limit pollution, you'll be tempted to lose yourself in the incredibly fine detail. Zooming in shows the population strolling and traffic jamming, and the ambient soundscape completes the immersion. If you feel like you've seen it all, Maxis's Web site offers new maps and buildings as free downloads. Fair warning to prospective tenants: to experience SimCity 3000 in all its uptown splendor, you'll need to take the system requirements seriously. --Jack Gardiner ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Remake of sim city 2000
Although this game has better graphics than the original and sim city 2000 it is just the same old thing.A remake of a fun game with newer and better graphics.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
First of all let me say that I'm not a "gamer" so pardon me if I'm not up to par with lingo etc.

Now I'm free to say that this is probably one of the best games I've ever played. I'm a SimCity 2000 vet and was eagerly anticipating this one, and it's everything you want it to be. Enhanced features, better details, great interaction, it still has it's humerous edge (if you've played SimCity you know what I mean, it's a funny game), and the great music (honestly, we need a SimCity soundtrack ;), just kidding). Personally I love the enhanced terrain editing tool, the new cheats, building/facility selection, the graphics, the new (and somewhat amusing) characters, and the more up-to-date graphs and charts and advisors that let you know how your city is doing. It is missing some of the things that SimCity 2000 had like disasters (if you liked that stuff, they could be fun) and the arcologies, but they are replaced with a more user friendly interface, interesting scenarios and offers from neighbor cities and businessmen, a very fun gaming atmosphere, and a royal selection of great new features that make this superior to SimCity 2000 in my book, and up there as my personal favorite game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
It takes more than amazing graphics and extra features to make a great game.Case and point, SimCity 3000 and SimCity 2000.SimCity 3000 has far superior graphics than SimCity 2000.However, the gameplay is so slow (just barely acceptable on a 867G4 with 640MB of RAM) that the coolness factor of the graphics gets lost in frustration.SimCity 2000 had amazing performance even on classic Mac Performas.SimCity 3000 requires twice the minimal requirements, i.e, the fastest G4 at the time, if you expect to play the game at some modicum of speed. The extra features of SimCity 3000, though nice, are not extensive enough to warrant a whole new product rather than a simple patch.Nothing was done to the overall depth and gameplay of the game and much could have been done.It really saddens me that Maxis was bought out by Electronic Arts, a Mac-unfriendly software producer. This unfriendliness is evident in the look of many elements in the SimCity 3000 interface. For example, take a look at the Windows-like Open File interface.Electronic Arts is more friendly to Linux users than Mac users.Overall, this is a terrible, unoptimized port of SimCity 3000 for Windows to the Macintosh.Software MacKiev did a poor job.Definitely pales in quality to the Aspyr Media port of The Sims for Macintosh. Also, do not be surprised if this is the last SimCity game you will see for the Macintosh for a long time. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Okay, Where to Start?
First off, I am a Petz veteran. I have played this game for quite a while. First of all, there are 10 dogz breedz (Goes the same with the Catz games, Except, in the Petz 5 games there are 15 breedz) The original dog breedz? Scottie, Mutt, Labrador, Dalmatian, Poodle, Bulldog, Chihuahua, Sheepdog, Great Dane, and Dachsund. Also, the special Pigz, but they're already Spayed or Nuetered. Now, to those of you, there are the original Petz Playscenes From the Petz 3 games, they were kinda boring...But now, you have Wild West, Snow Scene, Circus, Arabia! ( I may have left some out...) Now, there are trillions of Petz sites, that mostly support the 4/5 games! And some of the great site owners make 'hexies' or 'hexed breedz' sometimes, people take a dog breed, and mess with it. In the result, you could turn a chihuahua's eye color from light blue to orangey-maroon! Or make a Great dane's head the size of a couch! And people even make their own breed files! Have you ever seen a Bald Eaglez breed?? I have!! To Pokemon fans out there (pikachu rules!!!) There's a Rapidash breed to all the poke-lovers! Once, I got a Cheetah file, and a winged-siamese file, ands I got a Cheetah and a Flying-Siamese, they bred, and what was their baby? A cat with a Siamese personality, cheetah colors, (spots and all) and wings!!! Crazy, no? He got deleted, unfortanuley, (Wacko computer...)But I will never forget him, although I did forget his name, (Dumb forgetfulness... *wacks self in head with a random pickle*) So, now, in ode to Yu-Gi-Oh, I now dub him, The Nameless Pharoah! (of Catz 3)And he was gonna be the mascot of my dream site too... Okay, anyway, amke sure you have copies of your petz!!! Say you have your 4th generation, orange cat named Carrot, whose the cutest pet in all the land, and you wirkede hard to breed to get him, and a computer crash comes, and then, goodbye Carrot, the Veggie colored cutie. (This was a real event in my gaming life...)And with all your efforts, you can;t get him back. Or, perchance, you get a purebred Dalmatian who gets a mutation and his background is brown, and once again, your game is bye-bye, and so is your Choco dali (Yet another unfortunate event in Petz history.) ALWAYS MAKE COPIES!!! This game is wonderful, all in all, but don;t bother with the voice recognition, itdoesn't work. And, you can make your own playscenes, (To those people who are completely confused, and with my rambling are getting bored to death and thinking I am speaking in Komrian (Don't ask...)got to www.Petz.com, it gives you an overview, really. Now, I suppose that wraps it up, and by the way, If you ever get a Cheetah/Wing-Siamese hybrid with cheetah coat and wings, MAKE COPIES OF IT! Thank you, and always scrub your teeth thoroughley after every meal, or you will get plaque-galore, thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great game!
This is such a great game I got it 1 year ago and I still play it every day!It is so much fun to adopt your pets and play with them!

Yes if you are wondering you can breed. i have sat at my computer for hours at a time playing this game. It is not Addicting its just fun to play! now with the playsenes no one has ever mentchioned about making your own playsenes! You dont have to have a website or enething! i have probably made about 15 playsenes my self! I dont see why eney body wouldnt like this game- Ohh Noooo!! Stop Biting the curtains Scrappy!! Make way for Babyz! Adopt an adorable virtual kid in this amazing, playful simulation of child rearing from the company that brought you Catz and Dogz. Each Babyz (that's singular, too) is darling and unique--choose one of fifteen to adopt or, if none of them is just right, check out their Web site with plenty more to pick from, changing every day.

You can have up to three in one house, and then the fun begins. Name your Babyz, clothe them, give them toys, feed them, watch them play in the backyard, or just give them a tickle when they look bored. The software runs both like a normally selected program and as a screensaver--if you're not careful, the Babyz will take over your screen when you're not looking!

The graphics are playful and imaginative, the costumes are cute, and the house itself is full of stuff for the Babyz to explore. The package comes with a headset microphone and voice-recognition software so you can even talk to your Babyz--or teach them to speak. Short, simple words will start yammering back at you before long, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without a babbling Babyz in your computer. --Rob Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Babyz Rules Cyberworld
I love this game! In Babyz, you can adopt as many unique, babbling, pudgeballs as you want, though if you have more than three, the others will have to be sent to grandma's house. Babyz can be retrieved with a click of the button, as long as you have sent another one to grandma's.
If you grow tired of the babyz that are available on the internet, there are ways with various hex editors and help pages on the web that you can change a babyz physical appearance. When you hex a babyz, features like hair and eye color, and even things like if they can walk, or how old they are can be edited. You can even make your babyz into a giant blob of fat or a skinny stick.
One thing you can do is feed your babyz. Each baby has their own favorite food, and they will cry for it when they are hungry, and even call ot for it by name in babytalk. All babies love their babas, [bottles] and will need to drink orange juice to prevent sickness and help a baby get to feeling better when they are sick. Beware when feeding babyz!: they will balloon up and stay that way if you feed them more than one jar or bowl of food a day. Being fat really doesn't hurt a babyz, it just makes them look fatter, so depending on whether or not that will bother you...
You can play with all sorts of toys with your babyz. They have a great time shaking and throwing toys, and even knocking their siblings down with the toys if the baby doesn't like them. Babyz can learn to read books and ask for their toys by name. Babyz also have a great time dressing up in many different outfits and playing keyboards and drumsets.
Babyz start out at 9 months old and grow to be 15 months old. Over time they learn new words and get alot smarter. they are so cute! Some babyz are black, some are white, some are olive colored. Some babyz are fat, and some babyz are thin. Some are whiny and some are angels. Some babyz are spoiled and some are mean, some are pretty and some are ugly, but please do not abuse any by neglecting them and making them cry, or yelling at them through the microphone. They are virtual little people, and if you can abuse a simulated baby, who knows what you will do to a real baby.
I know you will love this game. I sure do. I am 13 years old and stil playing. just try changing and feeding and playing with one of these comical cuties, just try it one time, and I guarentee when they give you a goofy smile or giggle or learn something new, you will love them forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marrige FAQ
I have been playing this game for a long time and have been trying to find all it's secrets. I think harvest moon games are some of the best games money can buy. Trust me if you buy one of these you won't be at all dissapointed. I havent been able to but i know a bit about the marrige stuff. For starters you need to see all the girls heart events of which there should be about 5. You need to give the girls stuff they like wrapped up at the supermarket. You need to have over 100,000g to marry as well and it helps if you are friendly with the girl's family. I will be adding more to this site later. Hope you like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hopelessly addicting
Harvest Moon 64 is very much like Animal Crossing, which came out two years later. It's a you-either-love-it-or-you-don't game. The game reeks of repetition, but it just has that charm that keeps certain people coming at it over and over. I suppose what really determines which of the two aforementioned categories is how good you are at it. I mean, if you really suck at it, like me, you would spend all day trying to water your plants, and have no time with any interaction, which is the true heart and soul behind this game. Sure, growing crops, raising animals, and foraging are important, but if that's all you do, you're not experiencing this game to its fullest.

Harvest Moon 64 was perhaps the Nintendo 64 game with the largest amount of possible character interaction until Nintendo released Animal Forest in late 2001. There are *counts* *gives up* over 30 people in that little town, and you can speak to all of them. Some of the people are not very fun to talk to, but others provide you with some hearty conversations and long-lasting friendships, especially the five available ladies. Oh yeah. My favorites are Anne and Elli. Ahem...although Harvest Moon 64 has that dating sim aspect, the actual process of winning their hearts is a bit confusing. Perhaps I just don't understand it. Other activities fill the year, such as festivals and horse/dog races. They break the monotony and offer some welcomed changes to the gameplay. Of course, you can add to the monotony during the races by spending time betting max coins for each entry, but I guess that's your choice. The gameplay here is pretty open-ended. It's just that the days pass so fast. Even though your character looks like he should be in middle school, it is possible for you to start a family. It's too bad your son will always stay a mooch. While the monotonous gameplay would seem soporific give it a try anyways. If you're good, then you'd most likely enjoy this game. Not only that, it would also be fun to watch. That's right. It is in fact FUN to watch somebody that is good.

The graphics are nothing special. The entire game is played from a top-down perspective, and your character's movement is a bit...odd, to say the least. Because the action is seen from the angle, moving in diagnals is the way to go. The character models are actually not that bad. They have this cute, beady-eyed look that is quite adorable. The music is very nice, but it is too short and as a result loops too often. Some people faulted the game for talking only in text. But you know what? Voice acting would have ruined it. Oh yeah. This is probably the only N64 with the descriptor "Alcohol Use".

Enter Creatures Playground and bring to life an entire worldcreated around your very own virtual pet. Total care for this creature is yourresponsibility as you guide it through various adventures. The playground beginsin the Nestery; this is where you choose an egg, hatch it, and then name yourNorn, or new friend. Since the Norn is born with no knowledge of the world, youmust take over parental control and teach it well.

Throughout the game, your Norn must be kept well fed, warm, and happy. Food canbe found along your journey, either on the ground or in the trees, or you canprepare it in the kitchen area--even grow it in the garden. Dressing your Nornwill keep him or her nice and warm; clothes should be taken either from justoutside the Nestery or acquired along your journey.

As your Norn makes its way through the playground, various tasks must becompleted to enter different stages. Use the candy-floss machine to feed yourNorn, or make jelly or toffee apples. Once your Norn is fed, you can move on tothe action games--take the water hose and shoot down the targets in the piratewater game, enter the caves and dig for hidden treasure, or travel to space andtransport your Norn to the winter playland. Here he or she can ride on achairlift to the top of a hill, choose a run, and then race down while avoidingthe obstacles along the way. There are plenty of different stages, tasks, andsurprises, resulting in an endless number of potential adventures for yourNorn.

Players at the younger end of the suggested age range may require parentalassistance to begin with, to help them understand all the ways to play with theNorn. However, the scope for development and the endless game scenarios willkeep most players enthralled. Parental control over the game can be set with theuse of time and sound restrictions, and the game can be personalized withplayers' birthdays. (Ages 5 to 9) --Mandy Wood ... Read more

Those who claim the only things that are certain are death andtaxes have never heard of the EA Sports Madden football line.Yep, it's that time of the year again, and Madden 2001 is herewith a vengeance.

There aren't as many new features in this year's version as there werelast time around, but many things have been tightened up and tweaked. The animation is better, computer opponents are more apt to mix up theirpassing and running plays, and the computer also seems to have a betterawareness of the clock.

Madden 2001 requires an obscenely powerful PC to run at fullspeed with all the graphics options cranked to the stops. Our 400 MHzPentium III test machine with a 32 MB GeForce DDR card was producing afootball slide show until we turned some of the effects down (and insome cases off). For those lucky souls with the right hardware, prepareto see playing fields and uniforms that degrade over time, perhaps themost detailed player models ever put in a football game, and evenfootprints on the field. On the audio side, we recommend cranking up theexcellent crowd noises and turning off the idiotic and repetitive play-by-playfrom Madden and Summerall.

We were disappointed with the play editor, which looked like it wasported directly from an inferior console version of the game. In fact, the entire interface appeared to be hijacked from a console, as it isn'tPC friendly at all. It's the game that counts, though, and Madden2001--like its predecessors--serves up some of the best footballaction to be had on a PC. New online leagues and other multiplayeroptions added this year sweeten the deal. --T. Byrl Baker

      Pros:

      • Amazing graphics and animations
      • New online options
      • The computer opponent has improved
      Cons:
      • Steep system requirements if you want maximum detail
      • Color commentary is awful

its perfect the gameplay is just a little different then some of the new ones

4-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Football Games You'll Play
Although at first, you may think the game doesn't look that impressive, believe me, it is.
Although missing a bit of content that would have made it that much better, it still delievers great gameplay. If you're intending to use this with Windows 2000, you may experience some difficulties as Virus tracking software seriously interferes with the gameplay, the easiest thing to do is to shutdown all Virus trackers and start Madden, and just be patient, it will load.
You can create your own teams on Madden, although creating players is not an option. The graphics aren't stunning as more modern computer games, but they still make it a worthwhile game. You can edit the playbooks, if you want to create your own plays.
You'll want to get a decent gamepad to play the game, as the keyboard is not the best of options for improved gameplay.

However, before you go off and by this, Madden 2004 is VERY VERY soon, and it looks much better than any of the Madden games, if you're looking for a good controller to get the most out of Madden 2004, I suggest the Gravis Eliminator Aftershock. The only place I've seen it really cheaply, is here at Amazon.com

BUT, having said that, if your PC isn't up to speed to play 2004, 2001 one is a good choice game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Gimme A BREAK!!!
the gameplay of this game is horrible.if the computer is losing by the beginning of the last quarter then they just start to magically catch anything that comes their way even if you tip the pass.the blockers are constantly missing thier blocks.the recievers hardly ever catch a pass unless they are wide open and sometimes even then they drop the ball.running the ballc an be hard at times to because the defense can dive so far away.the graphics of this game are fairly adequate but i think they could be better. ... Editorial Review

If building and managing cities is your passion, then Pharaoh is the game for you. It puts you in charge of building the ancient Egyptian civilization, complete with work camps, temples to Bast, and, of course, pyramids.

Unlike some games of this type, where you build one city indefinitely and watch the population climb, Pharaoh is divided into missions. Players are given a goal--a desired population, food storage targets, and cultural achievements. Play continues until the target is met, unless the city succumbs to plagues, debt, or outside invaders first.

Pharaoh is loads of fun. The mission goals are tough but attainable, and city building for a finite time span will appeal to players who find unending development a bore. The usual juggling of civic needs for water, food, entertainment, and jobs is well balanced. The range of industries, religious practices, and municipal services is engaging, and the graphics are clear enough that it is easy to tell what's going on in the city. The mission-by-mission format allows the game to present a few challenges at a time, providing novelties for new levels of play.

This game does take a long time, but just be patient, it's worth it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too exhausting to be enjoyable
Pharaoh is every positive thing mentioned by the other reviewers. I wouldn't argue with any of them. It is a great game: "great" in terms of magnitude and scope. But it fails to be "fun." It's one of those bizarre instances where a game is addictive and enthralling but also infuriatingly difficult. I've just spent eight hours on a particular mission only to have a glitch in the behavior of the bazaar traders wreck everything. A few more courses to go on the pyramid...oops, so sorry, start over. Unfortunately problems like these have been commonplace since I started my campaign. Even when things go smoothly, most missions require four to eight hours. I'm sorry, I can't spend my life building cyberspace pyramids. Pharaoh is definitely a case of "more is less." ... Read more

Video games don't get much cuter than Hey You, Pikachu!, a Pokémon title that allows players to talk to their favoriteelectric mouse--via the Voice Recognition Unit (VRU) that's included--and sharein its day-to-day adventures. While older Pokémon fans might findthe game too childish, the candy-coated goodness that's found here makes itperfect for the kiddies.

With the abstract goal of building a friendship with Pikachu, playerscommunicate with it by speaking certain keywords and phrases into the VRU'smicrophone. Although Pikachu's speech is limited to variations on its own name(e.g., "Pika! Pika!"), it expresses itself through thought bubbles and thegame's adorably animated 3-D graphics.

Mastering this interaction is key to solving Hey You, Pikachu!'s puzzleelements, which are encapsulated in various squeaky-clean activities in whichyou and Pikachu participate together. While the voice recognition here isn'tperfect by any means, there's plenty of on-screen help and guidance to keepplayers from getting too frustrated. --Joe Hon

      Pros:

      • Allows players to interact verbally with Pikachu

Picture this. You are in your room and your mom wakes you up saying, "Oak's test is today!" You are 10 and you get up and go out the door to see what the test is. You find Prof. Oak and say, "O. K. I'm here." He then tells you that your test requires friendship, not a pencil! He then tells you, "Your test is to make friends with Pikachu!" You are told to speak to it, so you press Z and talk into the microphone. SURPRISE! Hey You, Pikachu isn't a book. It's a GAME!
First of all, this game is okay. This game is okay because of the animation. It doesn't look REAL, but pretty close.
Second, this game is great. This game is great because you can ACTUALLY make a friend! Using a microphone, you can ask questions, help it's friends, and help it buy MERCHANDISE!
Third, this game is awesome. This game is awesome because you don't have to do much to gain points! Just press A to pick something up, press START, and press A again to store it for points at the end of the `day'.
Last of all, this game is excellent. This game is excellent because you can build social skills. What it lacks in animation, it makes up in building social skills.
I give this game, out of 1-10, a 9! I recommend this game to everyone. Its rated E for EVERYONE. It's only for Nintendo 64 systems. It's only at the price of $15.00, which is CHEAP for a game this unique.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stange is good
Majora's Mask is a strange game: while it is a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, it is clearly a Zelda game of a very different shade.

It begins with Link slowly trudging deep in the Lost Woods, with his trusty horse, Epona, when he is attacked by a masked and mischevious Skull Kid - who steals his precious Ocarina and Epona. Worse still, the Skull Kid turns Link into a Deku form of himself, and Link finds himself in a strange Mirror - like Hyrule. Things turn even worse when Link finds the moon slowly getting bigger over the course of 3 days...

Majora's Mask features the very same Gameplay as Ocarina of Time, with a few exceptions. The entire course of the game is set within 3 days or 72 hours - and hours seem to pass like minutes, giving a player a total of just over an hour. While this may seem off-putting, it is implemented very well - people have set schedules over the course of the game, meaning you will be pottering around the Clock Town while not in dungeons, with the promise of an upgrade - or even a new mask.

Masks, as the title suggests, play an important role - some make you run faster, talk to enemies, summen foes or sooth arguements and more. There are a total of 24 masks to collect, the reward being a mask containing "The Merits of all masks". The best of the masks are the ones that allow transformation. (Let's face it, who HASN'T dreamed of swimming as a Zora or rolling as a Goron) The Zora Mask, the Goron Mask and the Deku mask. they allow you to transforminto all your favourites from Ocarina, each with the gifts of the species - Super fast swimming, Incredible strength, and, er, spitting nuts.

Majora's Mask is harder, darker and more original than Ocarina of Time - the unique aspects of the game are implemented very well but the way the game is played may be off-putting for some. Brilliant and totally original.

P.S. the start bits kinda boring.

5-0 out of 5 stars The darkest in the Zelda catalogue
If only that damn site IGN didn't take my idea first. They described this game as the Empire Strikes Back in Zelda and it's true. It's more darker, more gloomy and at times it can even be depressing. Unlike Ocarina of Time which oozed coolness and wonderment or Wind Waker which was cheery and uplifting due to its look, Majora's Mask is quite different than other installments but in no way is it bad, it's just different.

Story: I always considered this game more like an epilogue to Ocarina of Time rather than a full sequel. At the start of the game directly taking place after Ocarina, Link is in a forest and gets ambushed by Skull Kid and is turned into a Deku(they look like tiny trees with a long mouth) and enters a portal. From here Link finds himself in Termina, a land that is gonna be destroyed by a falling moon in 3 days. So it's up to Link once again to save the day using the powers of time and this weird masks.

Graphics: Reviewing this game in 2005 with such games as Metroid Prime, Halo and Metal Gear Solid 3 of course puts Majora to shame but remembering the graphics at that time, it's more of an extension of Ocarina only darker and not as vibrant. Due to maybe the Expansion Pak or just the game itself, the game does have framerate issues and some rough textures. Beware that the Gamecube re-release on the Collector's Edition sometimes freezes the game.

Gameplay: All Zelda games pretty much to this day revolved around some kind of "gimmick": in Ocarina it was time travelling, Wind Waker was controlling the wind, Minish Cap was the ability to shrink to thumbnail size and the Oracle series revolved around time travelling and season changing. Majora's Mask revolves around, yep you guessed it, masks. Link with the benefit of 24 masks(25 if you get all 24), Link can turn into different characters such as the Deku race, Goron race(big tough creatures with a taste for rocks) and the Zora race(fish people roughly). Or there's different masks like Postman, Ghost, or Bunny mask which makes him run faster.

The other aspect for the 3rd time in Zelda's history revolves around time travelling, once in Ocarina and the other in Oracle of Ages. Only this time it's different. You see the game's clock makes 3 days take about roughly 50 minutes before the moon crashes so with the Ocarina you can go back to Day 1 and start over, even make the time go slower so you have more time. This is quite annoying to say the least since your funds, arrows and bombs revert to zero if you go back to Day 1, your items are intact, your extra stuff isn't. And also you could be in the middle of a dungeon to be really close only to be on the final day and have to reset to Day 1, which incidentally cancels any progress you made in the dungeon.

Not to say the game is bad(it's just slightly hard) but it's quite enjoyable to go through, if you don't mind it's tone anyway.

4-0 out of 5 stars very very good but,not as good as 'ocarina of time'
I played the Legend of zelda ocarina of time in 1997,WHAT A YEAR THAT WAS!!!I had so much fun!then in gameinformer magazine the new preveiws page said that there was going to be a new game called 'the legend of zelda:majora's mask'it was about link going to a new land where the moon is falling and he has only 3 days to live and on the third day link has to play the song of time so that he can go back to the first day,I HAD TO HAVE IT!but then half a year later when it came out,I was very upset because when I played it,it was too easy and I beat it in almost a week!when I played'Ocarina of time'it took me almost two YEARS!but other then that it was a fun game,Very fun in fact.I really liked that you can upgrade your sword, when in 'ocarina of time'the master sword is what you see what you get!PROS TO MAJORAS MASK:There are lots of masks that you can get and they give powers(like fast running),you can upgrade your sword twice, there are new songs for link to play on his ocarina and there is a bank so link can have alot of money!CONS:you have to play 'the song of time'way to often because the moon is falling for some reason and you have only 3 days to live, finding more then half of the masks are very hard to find, the game has only four temples and they are all very hard way too short.but all in all this game is worth around $15.00,so if you like the other Zelda games try this one too! ... Haven't all cat owners wished for a more cooperative pet? Now you can adopt a "Catz" and have the affectionate, responsive playmate you've always wanted--living in your computer! This remarkable virtual pet will be your companion for life, with proper care and feeding. There are 10 different breeds to choose from, all with their own personalities. Adopt as many as you like, but if you don't pay attention to one, it might run away!

This version of the popular "Petz" series has voice-recognition technology, so you can train your new friend to come when called, sit, fetch, or other goofy tricks (microphone not included). There are outfits for your pet and a variety of "play scenes." Where else can you put sunglasses on kitty and take her treasure hunting in the South Seas? With your own digital camera, you can take pictures and use them as additional play backgrounds. Additional options include breeding your Catz, shopping for Toyz, and creating printable picture books. For those who aren't cat fanciers, look for the Bunnyz hiding in the adoption center--he may be just the pet you were looking for. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

      4-0 out of 5 stars It's a great game!
I loved catz(and dogz) 4! I must admit that it was a shame that the voice recognition did not work to well but it was a good idea, other than that it was fantasic! If you loved petz 4, i recomend petz 5, it's even better.
      :¬D
      I give the game 5 & 1/2 stars!

      PS:
I think that anyone who says it is a bad game should think about all the hard work that went into making it and just consider how complecated it must have been to create such life like virtual animals. I mean, could you have done that?

      thnx 4 reading my review!

3-0 out of 5 stars Yuck
Mindscape (they made this, Ubi Soft made Petz 5) made some real mistakes.

Bugs, bugs, bugs. This game is full of them. The food dish bounces around and your catz never get a chance to eat.Toys permanently disappear from the playscenes. For example, the cannon ball disappears from the Circus Playscene. The game may crash every so often and you lose everything you did.

Where did BUNNIES come from?Hello? This is Catz 4; bunnies aren't cats.It probably wouldn't be so bad if you could breed them, but you can't.Big bummer. As for talking to your catz, I couldn't get them to understand me properly, so I just forgot about it.

The game is almost like a bug-filled dull Catz 3.Why bother expanding, then? They are almost the same, except for new clothes that barely even have complete outfits, new scenes that lose their unique toys in a day, and bunnies that can't even breed. The only reason I gave it three stars and not one or two is because it does at least have new features.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
This game is great it has so many things that you can do like playing with the catz, feeding traveling to places like the dessert or to the circus where you can meet other catz. You can also breed your catz and then in about 3 days you'll have a newborn. You also now own a house that you can decorate for your style with pictures of your catz, and so much more.Though there is a new catz5 game out which is even better, I also highly suggest getting this game too.If you buy both games they will come up as one and you can bring all of your catz from catz4 onto catz5. ...
