Limited Use
This is a good product... However, one draw back is if your clients do not use a current version of Quickbooks it is not helpful.

An over-hyped product

Best Accounting Software for Business
I am a professional accountant who worked with all kinds of accounting software.Quickbooks Accountant Edition 2003 has all the functions that both small and medium size business can use.It even has contractor functions, not much different from Timberline that is 100 times more expensive.With basic understanding of accounting, almost anyone can use the software.All other drawbacks such as necessity to purchase additional software to process payroll is negligible compared to the cost of more expensive accounting software.The quality of this software is excellent.Never pay the software producer for consulting, because Quickbooks is very simple to use and almost self-explanatory.

Quick! QuickBooks Premier Contractor Edition 2003
An interesting introduction to Accounting software. I had been using quicken and the jump in user knowledge needed was tremendous. Intuit is decidedly unsupportive when it comes to product instructions and support and I will be looking elsewhere for my next software package. It is possible that I will use continue to use QB but I would reccomend that new QB users start out with a less expensive version. The "more accurate estimating" is all user inputed and while better than anything you find in quicken I believe QB Premier advertisement overstates its usefulness. A great program if you need all of its features
I've been using Quickbooks in its various forms since version 1.0 (for DOS!). So by now I consider it indispensable. But Quickbooks 2003 Premier Contractor's Edition is quite pricey, even with the rebates. I would only recommend it for larger companies with at least a few employees. Many smaller contracting companies (such as mine) would manage very well with just Quickbooks Pro 2003. Also, if you haven't used previous versions of Quickbooks before, (when it had less features) it might be best to start out with the simpler versions. Its help systems are very extensive but if you need any assistance from Intuit be warned that they charge for it either per request or by a yearly subscription, which I feel is a bit of a slap in the face considering the cost! The extra features such as the Change Orders and Contractor specific Job analysis and reports could be helpful but for me at least that remains to be seen. ... Read more

Donor accounting difficult
It is difficult to enter information on donors, and have that gift update the banking information. A key reason for us purchasing QB for Non profits was to keep track of gifts to this non profit, update our banking information, send out receipts and thank you's to the donors - this appears to be very difficult to achieve. You may need a separate peice of software to handle this most basic task. ... Read more

Worth the price (IF you get it for free)
This is a clunky program with a design that feels like freeware.If you buy a companion program like TaxCut DeLuxe that let's you get DeductionPro free after rebate, then it's worth the 37 cents postage you pay to process the rebate.The program's terrible, but the pre-programmed fair market values can save you time and money.

Terrible Program!
It's only value is the calculation for FMV. I experiences all of the problems the other reviewer had plus more! After entering information for one of my charities, I started getting error messages for each line item. My donations for that entity went from 400.00 to over 8000.00. (It duplicated my information about 20X). The items were not available to delete, but were on the report screen. Tech support had no clue, and told me to uninstall/reinstall (typical.) After doing this, the program reattached to the old file and the problem was still there. I couldn't even delete the organization that was causing the problem (it always reappeared.) Instead, I had to begin a new file and re-enter ALL of the information for each organization. Over $400 in Deductions!
This was great, using it I ended up saving over $400 on my taxes.It only took about 2 hours to enter all the recipets I had for this past year and that was it.It kept a running total and it will even import into TaxCut, which I use every year :)Read more
