3-0 out of 5 stars Some good points, some bad.
I installed PDF Converter Pro 4 and was generally pleased with its performance enabling me to edit PDF documents. The big problem I have with it; however, is that in normal Internet browsing, when I click on a PDF document, more often than not, the document does not come up on the first try.It freezes my browser (Internet Explorer) and I have to go to Task Manager to shut it down.Repeated attempts at opening the document have to be made, but eventually the document opens. Because of that, I uninstalled PDF Converter. On the occasions that I will want to edit a PDF document, I will reinstall it, do what I want and uninstall it again. It is quick to install and uninstall, and since I don't do a lot of editing of PDF files, it will do what I want from it.As a previous review stated, tech support is very expensive; however, customer support is free and they are responsive.

1-0 out of 5 stars ScanSoft PDF Converter Professional 4 terrible
I will make this simple and short there tech support is a rip off should not half to pay for a new product. Customer support is the same takes forever to get some one on the phone. The product is a complete joke.Simple Don't BUY this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Documentation and Support. Weak for PDF Forms.
I've recently been reviewing PDF creation & editing software, with a specific focus on creating/editing PDF Forms.I was hesitant to try Nuance PDF Converter Professional 4 because of the reviews I read regarding version 3, but I figured version 4 must be an improvement.I should have listened to my gut, and to the other reviewers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sooo much better for novices than Illustrator 9
Nobody, and I mean NObody, could be more of an Illustrator novice & ignoramus than I. Several months ago I was given a licensed copy of Illustrator 9 that a departing coworker had used. Wanting a chance to design the departmental logo that otherwise would've gone to an agency, I raised my figurative hand and volunteered blindly for duty. Having taught myself everything from MS-DOS to TurboCAD, to Photoshop Elements, not to mention Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (don't get me started on that latter program, argh), I figured I could tackle at least the basics of Illustrator 9. Loaded it on my laptop, took it home for a weekend....and just about lost my sanity -- and several fingernails -- trying to learn that confounding program. I managed to produce a few logos, one of which was chosen. But egads, what a big, stinky bear Illustrator 9 was to wrestle.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beginners proceed with Caution!
Im computer literate and regularly use a number of varying programs from Visio to Logic Audio to MS Office. After picking up Illustrator however, Im frustrated by the lack of intuition and steep learning curve the software offers.Ive been told that the world revolves around 2 types of people: those who "get" vector graphic programs, and those who errrr...dont. Unfortunately, after 10 hours use and much manual reading, I fall into the later category. I dont plan to give up however and plan to enroll in a course. This decision was supported by friends proficient in its use - but who had difficulty demonstrating thecomplex concepts to me. (Indeed, defining the direction of a drawn curve was as intuitive as metaphsyics or nuclear science!)
5-0 out of 5 stars Adobe's new Illustrator CS2 version is faster and feature-packed
If you're one of those people like me, who hang on to an older version of the application waiting for the right time, now is the time to upgrade. You won't be disappointed.Just ask the editors of both PC Magazine and C|Net which awarded this version their Editor's Choice Award.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm
My wife purchased this because she is studying for the GRE and GMAT and spending a lot of time looking up words in a dictionary while reading. The amount of time she saves using this pen is amazing. We haven't used any of the software that comes with it and don't really plan to, but for scanning words in books, even relatively small print, it works pretty quickly and has about a 95% correct scan and definition rate. The pronunciation tool works very well too. We were nervous of the price tag, but after using it for a week, I'd say the price is pretty reasonable. It also comes with a convenient carrying case (similar to a cd faceplate case for a car cd player). The only time it doesn't work on a scan is if you don't scan evenly, or if a word is split between two lines with a hyphen. If you use the proper method of scanning, which is pretty self-explanatory, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you're looking for a product to speed up your studying, this is it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Publishing for the Price
A publishing program for under $200 that works great. If you are comfortable working with Microsoft Office programs, then you'll find it easy to adapt to Microsoft Publishing. I've been using this program for about a year without any problems. Since using it, I've found that any other variations for card, flyer, newsletter creation are almost impossible. After feeling like you can do "anything" in this program, it's hard to deal with a different platform. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disapointed outlook user
I use microsoft outlook, and was excited that this product supposedly syncs with outlook.Yay, I thought.Well, first time I sync, it deletes all my outlook calendar items!Took me an hour to restore everything to normal, and I have yet to find a setting where it won't do that!
5-0 out of 5 stars Not Pricey, But Effective
I've used Lotus Organizer for a long time and decided it was time to upgrade to a WinXP version. In looking at the latest release and the significant price tag; I decided there has to be something better. AnyTime Organizer is just as effective and for less than half the price as Lotus. It's not filled with all the customizable color/bells and whistles; but it doesn't have to be. It's effect, doesn't take a huge amount of memory to run on my laptop and does the same job just as well. It's a good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Organize simply!
I tried what seems like everything to do the simple tasks I wanted to do:maintain my address book (with some flexibility to attach things like driving directions), and keep all of those little snippets of information that couldn't be neatly and logically kept elsewhere without learning a complex application.

1-0 out of 5 stars I HATE this product
At my business we are required to scan things to PDF documents to send to our clients. I love the PDF format. It is a great way to easily condense documents into small file sizes while still maintaining quality. It's unfortunate that I haven't found a way to create PDF without going through Adobe first. As the IT guy in our office, Acrobat problems is the biggest thing I get called about. This is the most bloated invasive software I have ever used, even more so than some spyware I've seen. It installs itself EVERYWHERE.
    3-0 out of 5 stars Acrobat 6
I really think many of the visual upgrades made to Acrobat 6(over Acrobat 5) only made it more clumsy. The core product is still great.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh... Version 5 was fine.
I've been a fan (and user) of Acrobat for many years, and am continually amazed by the number of organizations that *don't* circulate their documents in PDF format. I don't even *read* Word attachments anymore, for fear of viruses and because I *know* they won't look like the author intended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoide Scansoft 14 or 15
Both versions of Scansoft cause my installer to have problems. Mainly it tries to re-install Softscan every time I start up Softscan. Also It has started to try and reinstall Softscan if I try to right click on a JPG. There is very little to no chance of getting any help from Scansoft (Nuance)to debug this problem. Save your money and buy some thing else.

1-0 out of 5 stars buggy software
Omnipage is a buggy piece of software which is prone to throwing errors and mysterious crashes (often occuring at the end of a lengthy process).Nuance provides no support and when you attempt to contact them they want $9.95 for an email question or $19.95 for a phone question. You might expect this from an inexpensive piece of software but for the cost of Omnipage you would expect some support.I recommend finding something more reliable from a company that provides some measure of support.

3-0 out of 5 stars OmniPage 15 OCR
This product appears to be very powerful and no doubt it is however, the thing I need it for is to scan. I find its character recognition to be so so! Surely it should do a better job on typed letters. I find myself having to edit the document so much that typing the original might just be easier!I do like its picture scanning capabilities though. Overall, I give it a 3. The good and the bad average but I had expected better character recognition. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Support Ever
Buy this product and pray is works flawlessly because the support is the worst I've ever had to work with. Our upgrade from version 10 to 11 caused the scanner to perform twenty times slower making it un-usable.I can't imagine why the upgrade would do this and trust that support never will either.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommneded
I have used PaperPort 6 and 9 and decided to try version 11.This version is slow as molasses! If you have more than 30-40 scans in a folder it takes a long time to open the folder and if you switch between folders with a large number of scans you just wait and wait for the thumbnails to reload!A huge waste of time.Switching from a file in desktop view to thumbnail view also very slow. The current image stays, then fades away as all the thumbnails RELOAD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Longtime user of paperport
I have had some trouble with each version. Update number eleven sounded good. Wrong, version eleven is GARBAGE. I want a useable version for the hundreds of dollars spent buying their BUGS. If it did what it said on the box I would love it, I need it. It is to unreliable.

2-0 out of 5 stars Support options are a disgrace
I've used Paper Port for several years, starting with the version that was bundled with the Visioneer Strobe Pro. It was the only game in town that I could find and, having learned how to use it, I stayed with it through version 10 pro. I have not had substantial problems with it that could not be solved using their knowledge base. But, after a recent reformat when I had to reinstall the software, I found I could not activate it. It was brought home to me again that Nuance's policy of charging for all e-mail support after the first incident is no longer acceptable for a piece of relatively expensive, complex software that requires a certain level of computer expertise to install, run and maintain. I was thinking of upgrading to V. 11 but since v. 10 is fine for my needs as were versions 7, 8 and 9. I won't throw another cent down that Nuance upgrade rathole unless and until they change their policy on supporting it. If you have a previous version of PP that is working and that serves your needs, stay with it. It is obvious, after reading the other reviews, good and bad, the Nuance has not yet learned the nuances of making an easy to use, reliable product nor has it learned how to provide the support that the people who pay for their software deserve. P.S. the activation problem turned out to be a server glitch on their end that I only learned about after chancing a call to their (free) Customer Service.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a good program . . . but it takes some effort to install
The other reviewers are complaining about the program being buggy. The first and second times I installed the program, I made the mistake of not turning off my Trendcillin Antivirus Software, SpySweeper Software and a registry repair program and of not uninstalling the previous Paperport version and PDF Converter.PDF Converter is another Scansoft/Nuance program which stopped installation of the PDF Create! 3 which is included with Paperport 11.When I uninstalled and/or turned off these programs, I was able to install the Paperport 11 Professional fully, and it functioned correctly.I then reinstalled the other Nuance product which also worked correctly and rebooted the machine to restart the Antivirus. Probably, it would be business and marketing smart for Nuance to make these suggestions as part of the installation procedure for Paperport 11 -- that is if they want people to continue to purchase their products. The sole reason for the four stars is the installation drama. ... Users can instantly convert bitmaps to vector artwork with Live Trace, paint intuitively with Live Paint and save time with the new context-sensitive Control Palette and optimized workspaces. 3-0 out of 5 stars too slow to rate a 5 star
Illustrator CS2 is an application loaded with features, but it is too slow that after I execute a command I wait almost 30 seconds before anything happens. Oftentimes I click again because there is no hour glass or timeline to indicate it is doing anything and that usually ends in Illustrator not responding and hanging up. I'm use to Photoshop being so fast compared to Illustrator that I get impatient.

4-0 out of 5 stars Novice heaven (for an Adobe product)
Nobody, and I mean NObody, could be more of an Illustrator novice & ignoramus than I.Several months ago I was given a licensed copy of Illustrator 9 that a departing coworker had used.Wanting a chance to design the departmental logo that otherwise would've gone to an agency, I raised my figurative hand and volunteered for duty.Having taught myself everything from MS-DOS to TurboCAD, to Photoshop Elements, not to mention Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (don't get me started on that latter program, argh), I figured I could tackle at least the basics of Illustrator 9.Loaded it on my laptop, took it home for a weekend....and just about lost my sanity -- and several fingernails -- trying to learn that confounding program.I managed to produce a few logos, one of which was chosen. But egads, what a big, stinky bear Illustrator 9 was to wrestle.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with CS2 - stick with CS!
If I had $1 for every time a CS2 app crashed and made expend real hours to redo work, I'd have about $10. And that's enough for me to say, BEWARE of this set of applications! Adobe has allowed them to get too bloated, too slow, and the results are that all the programs (but principally GoLive, InDesign and Illustrator, in that order) are crashy and will quite suddenly, forcing you to expend the precious hours of your life redoing work you just finished. I cannot stress how disappointed I am in Adobe, and how distraught I am that we as a nation have allowed the only two competing companies to join, thus guaranteeing that there will be less quality and innovation in the future. In any event, do not buy the CS2 apps, Adobe does not deserve your support! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Adobe Acrobat 5.0
I was familiar with this product before I purchased it. I was leary about purchasing it without the manual or other documentation -- just the CD -- but I took a chance, based on Amazon.com's reputation for standing by their processes.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best deal going right now for Acrobat
By the time I was done reading the reviews for Adobe Acrobat 6.0 I was depressed. Not only do I not have Windows XP, or Windows 2000, or NT installed in my machine (The only operating systems that will work with 6) I also couldn't muster up the confidence in the product after so many people were giving it the thumbs down. I want to create an eBook, and Adobe Reader is the most popular reader out there, with some 400 million, to a half a billion users with it installed. What a dilemma. I kept coming back to read some more. Finally I found the answer. I bought a new Adobe Acrobat 5.0 here at Amazon from one of their vendors, and it works great with my Windows 98SE. I planned on buying the 6.0 upgrade after they got the bugs out, and or I got a new computer with XP. Then I found out that 5.0 was the only version before, and that was the professional version. 6.0 Standard is a geared down version of 5. Ok, so it has some additional features, but it is missing all the rest of the professional features that 5 has. 3-0 out of 5 stars Merely a Stepping Stone
Since, for some unknown reason, Adobe doesn't offer a direct upgrade path from Acrobat 3 to Acrobat 6, I bought this Acrobat 5 Upgrade merely so I could qualify for a free upgrade to Acrobat 6.Not only is this silly of Adobe, it's also expensive.Instead of buying an Acrobat 6 package, sticking my old Acrobat 3 CD into the drive, and continuing on my way without further hassle or expense, I had to buy the Acrobat 5 upgrade, go to the Adobe website to find their customer support phone number, call them via their 800 number, get them copies of the receipt, pay a token shipping cost, and then install the new software. What's even worse is that I've spent over six weeks trying to do that.Amazon got me the package immediately. But, so far, I've had to talk to Adobe (at their expense) five times. The first time was to find out that the upgrade existed and get the instructions for faxing the information to them.Supposedly, my fax never arrived. Then, I had to talk to them about that and get a snail-mail address.Supposedly, THAT package never arrived. Then, with my next call, I managed to get an email address to send the documents to.Again, supposedly, that never arrived. Finally, I talked to a person who had me re-fax just the receipt and my Acrobat 3 serial number. She called me back within a half an hour and we completed the whole process (confirmed my shipping address and got a credit card number for the shipping fee).Besides the hassle I had to go through, this upgrade must have cost Adobe a bundle in phone and support personnel costs. The free upgrade period from Acrobat 5 to 6 is over now, but Adobe really needs to come up with a better way for their old Acrobat 3 customers to upgrade. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Adobe Acrobat 7 standard
It has some nice upgrades from version 6.It is quicker than the previous version. Highlighting text is a bit easier. It caused a few problems with my officejet 5510xi and its ports, but I found a patch for the officejet and all is well.It is a product that is helpful in my work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cleaner look and feel
The new Adobe Acrobat has a cleaner look and feel, and is more user-friendly.I especially apreciate the new quick distiller buttons in any Microsoft application, which allow you to create a PDF in one click rather than having to go to File and Print. Some functionality as before, with some new organization and better look/feel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best yet
After using 7.0 for a few weeks I find that this is the best yet. The speed of opening attachments and the compression when making them is fabulous.I highly recommend anyone to upgrade to 7.0. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great functionality but misleading samples and slow speed
Acrobat 7 introduces much new functionality in both document review and forms creation.I found the document review functionality to be very well done and very powerfull. It has great depth as a review and markup tool.It is in the area of forms creation with Designer 7 that I found problems.First I found much of the information misleading. I was interested in some specific functionality that PRO was supposed to turn on for Viewer only users. After activating that functionality and finding that it still didn't work with Viewer, I learned that it wasn't just the PRO version of Acrobat that was needed but another Adobe server product costing tens of thousands of dollars.Kind of like giving someone a key to the bank when everything of value is stored in the vault. The second issue was one of speed.I took an existing form created in MS Word and converted it to Acrobat. That process worked well but when I added dynamic elements things slowed to a crawl.Dynamic elements are things like, areas that expaned as users type or checkboxes that show or hide form areas as needed.Everything worked, but some elements took 10 seconds to refresh on a 2.4 gig computer.Lastly a warning about the new file format used by Acrobat 7.The forms functionality provided by Designer 7 changes the Acrobat format into an entirely new file type.As such that new file type does not work with many (any ?) exiting Acrobat compatible server products. In fact it even prevents Acrobat Pro 7 from doing things like batch combining of Acrobat files.Time will most probably solve both the speed and compatibility issues.I just wish that software manufactures would provide a document showing the pluses and minus offered when upgrading to a major new release like Acrobat 7.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hair-pulling Conflicts with Word
I've wasted hours and frustration trying to figure out why I kept losing my changes to MS Word's AutoText and normal.dot template everytime I closed Word. Two long calls to Microsoft's tech support could not identify the problem. Next stop, my local smart computer guy, who sniffed a software conflict and through process of elimination named the culprit: Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0.
1-0 out of 5 stars Massive compatibility issues - Beware!
That's right if you have fillable forms created in a previous version and expect to change them, your out of luck.I thought compatibility was the cornerstone of Acrobat.

2-0 out of 5 stars Get Adobe Acrobat
This software is billed as completely compatible with the PDF document format. Unfortunately, it is not. It will suffice for an occasional text document, but not for a complicated layout, or for publishing forms.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
After being screwed by Adobe (don't ask), I did some research and bought this product.Great, works better than the Adobe version at a frachion of the cost. What could be better? How about not dealing with the a##holes at adobe customer support!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Buggy - Junk
I already own Adobe Acrobat Professional but decided to try this software. It is bad. The interface is not clean and it has great difficulties printing PDF documents downloaded from the web. On a 40 page document it would only print 20 pages and hang everytime. I became so discouraged with it today trying to download a users manual for a household product that I removed it from my system and reinstalled Adobe Acrobat and was able to download and print the documenty in question faster and with no problems handling the 40 pages.
