Here's how to fix the problem with Winfax and Outlook 2003
I spoke with Symantec tech support today about resolving the problem with Winfax and Outlook 2003. Basically what was happening was everytime I closed Outlook 2003, I would get an error message that Outlook needed to shut down. When I clicked on "Send this error report to Microsoft" it sent a message back to me identifying Winfax as the culprit. It had a link to Symantec's website with an article on the issue with Outlook 2003. I then contacted tech support and after several days and repeated phone calls (I kept getting transfered and promised to be called back), I spoke to someone who told me how to fix the problem. Go to Start then Control Panel. Then click on the link the Mail icon. Then delete the Winfax Logs listed in the menu. The tech rep told me that Outlook was searching for non-existent winfax logs and that's what was causing the error message. After I did this the problem was fixed and Winfax is working fine with my Windows XP sp2 and Outlook 2003. This solution may save you time and $ because they wanted to charge me $10 but after sweet talking them they waived the charge. I suggested they put this solution on their website but I think they really want you to call them and pay for help. Other than the above issue, I have used Winfax for years and found the software to be of great use to my home-based business. It does exactly as it was described to do.

WinFax PRO has been discontinued by Symantec. Do not purchase this software unless you are willing to use a discontinued software package.

This product will make you hate life
Winfax Pro has caused me more headaches than any other single piece of software.It is buggy and slow and crashes at the drop of a hat.As far as I can tell, it is essentially unmaintained by Symantec; I don't think they actually plan on fixing any of the many major bugs, and are just milking this old, old codebase for as long as suckers continue to pay good money for it.Beware! ... Poor, Poor Customer Service
I purchased this item to use with the Audiovox PC5220 and my Macintosh. It doesn't work, but they told me that only after I waited almost aweek for a response to my support inquiry. I then requested a refund. It has been almost two months, and I finally got a denial email today. I have never encountered such horrendous customer service. This is the second time I've dealt with Smith Micro, and the first time was just as bad. Be warned -If you need any support on any of their products, you should be prepared to wait.....and wait.....and wait.... Also, buy it from a dealer, not direct, so that you can return it, if necessary. ... Read more

Good overall fax system
For a fax program that is better than the windows version, this program is a no brainer. I have no trouble sending and receiving faxes. Good product to buy, no problems yet.

Compatibility Problems
Tried V4.0, did not reliably answer calls and itcaused problems with my system seizing up when answering.

THIS SOFTWARE IS TERRIBLE!
I have just purchased the COMMUNICATE! software and quite frankly, I am extremely disappointed with the purchase! The set up process is cumbersome and complicated. Additionally, importing data is excruciating from the incomplete and poorly written included instructions. Unfortunately, the manufacturer (01 Communique) does not appear to offer a money back guarantee and once software has been opened it cannot be returned. If you are considering the purchase of fax software, I STRONGLY suggest that you spend your money on a different fax program!

DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE
I bought the Communicate 10.0 and I could not get it to work so the manufacturer had me try the i2000 version to see if I could get that to work.I downloaded the software and I could not get that to work either.I sent them the test information they asked me for and they told me that my modem was not compatible.He sent me a list of modems and there were only Three modems listed which were not listed on the box as hardware requirements.If you don't want to lose your money do not buy this software.

Pretty cool!
I haven't been using the product for that long, but it certainly has all the bells-and-whistles, and they all work. It is picky about the modem it needs (requiring a modem that properly supports voice), but once running it is very slick! Answers my phone, allows me to do voice mail blasts etc. etc.Read more

Program will NOT work with MAC OS 9

I've had very few problems with this software; mostly, using a US Robotics external voice modem, the caller ID isn't supported (which would be neat, as it can display incoming calls as a sticky). I was delighted that the program would let me record voice messages using the Andrea USB microphone I'd acquired with ViaVoice, for very clear messages. Works fine for me...
I have been using this software for about a year on my iMac DV. It has worked fine, and has more than paid for itself by allowing me to discontinue my phone company voicemail. I hope this, or another product with voicemail capabilities is developed for OS X. ... Read more

Worked with ME, not XP
I used to use this software a good bit when I had WinME.The only real problem I had was with the answering machine.NO matter what I did, the recorded voice (mine, not the pre-recorded included) sounded as if it was speaking at half-speed. Ever hear the phrase: Good in theory, bad in practic?
This software epitomises this phrase.I bought this software for its voice capabilities, and loew and behold, it has bugs, and it does not fully support my modem.In fact, it only supports 3 modems PERIOD.I wish I had known this before I gought it.Oh well.Do not make the same mistake.

It works .... Sometimes
Been using this for around 1 year now and it crashes allot and when it does it doesn't hang up the phone line. This could be for hours or days depending if your on vacation or just out and about. Haven't found any support anywhere yet. When it works it works pretty well. Mailboxes are easy to setup and the built in options are more then suffcient to use in a small office enviroment. Stick to the free FAX software that comes with Windows XP
I just uninstalled it after I got it going (after wasting about 8 hours fiddling).
unreliable software, looking for a replacement
I have been using the 4.0 version of this software on a Windows 98 platform for several years, with disappointing results. The fax does not work well when it comes to sending file attachments, sometimes resulting in annoying crashes. Logging the sent or received faxes is a big problem, as the fax viewer cannot open the faxes stored in a default directory that cannot be changed. Very recently I updated my Windows 98 with all the critical updates from Microsoft, and HotFax crashes the computer (very reliably!) every time I try sending a fax. Don't buy this product, find something better.

Appalling experience!
After much research and what I thought was careful planning, I downloaded the software and found it would not work with my computer. To make it work would require a new modem for around $300.00. Tried to contact Smith Micro and they were "on holiday". Unfortunately, the time frame to return product expired while they were "on holiday" and they said it was too bad for me.
