Some good points, some bad.
I installed PDF Converter Pro 4 and was generally pleased with its performance enabling me to edit PDF documents.The big problem I have with it; however, is that in normal Internet browsing, when I click on a PDF document, more often than not, the document does not come up on the first try.It freezes my browser (Internet Explorer) and I have to go to Task Manager to shut it down.Repeated attempts at opening the document have to be made, but eventually the document opens. Because of that, I uninstalled PDF Converter.On the occasions that I will want to edit a PDF document, I will reinstall it, do what I want and uninstall it again. It is quick to install and uninstall, and since I don't do a lot of editing of PDF files, it will do what I want from it.As a previous review stated, tech support is very expensive; however, customer support is free and they are responsive.

I will make this simple and short there tech support is a rip off should not half to pay for a new product. Customer support is the same takes forever to get some one on the phone. The product is a complete joke.Simple Don't BUY this product.

Much better than I expected it to be.
I didn't encounter any problems with this product infact it was much easier to use and it allows you to combine and orginaze text files, chart spreadsheets, drawings, PDF documents and more into a single compressed package with advanced security features it also has many tools, overall this product was fantastic and I cannot recommend this highly enough. The interface and toolbars might be annoying but that is just a slight problem since it can be taken down and become more user friendly. The other reviewers who complained about this being slower need to know that this is just the standard edition which I use, there is a better edition which is The Professional Full Product of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 that also includes an upgrade.....

Mostly a downgrade
I loved Acrobat 6.7 is a slower, somewhat less stable version.The OCR functionality actually seems to have gotten worse -- in speed, accuracy and friendliness -- which is remarkable.Scanned files tend to be a bit bigger than in 6.It crashes infrequently, but still more often than 6.7 Has lots of bells and whistles for commenting, but I don't write much by committee.When I do, I use Word.All the ornamentation is pretty, but also makes for big, unstable files fairly quickly.

I HATE this product
At my business we are required to scan things to PDF documents to send to our clients. I love the PDF format. It is a great way to easily condense documents into small file sizes while still maintaining quality. It's unfortunate that I haven't found a way to create PDF without going through Adobe first. As the IT guy in our office, Acrobat problems is the biggest thing I get called about. This is the most bloated invasive software I have ever used, even more so than some spyware I've seen. It installs itself EVERYWHERE.

I really think many of the visual upgrades made to Acrobat 6(over Acrobat 5) only made it more clumsy.The core product is still great.

Eh... Version 5 was fine.
I've been a fan (and user) of Acrobat for many years, and am continually amazed by the number of organizations that *don't* circulate their documents in PDF format. I don't even *read* Word attachments anymore, for fear of viruses and because I *know* they won't look like the author intended.

Adobe Acrobat 5.0
I was familiar with this product before I purchased it. I was leary about purchasing it without the manual or other documentation -- just the CD -- but I took a chance, based on Amazon.com's reputation for standing by their processes.
This is the best deal going right now for Acrobat
By the time I was done reading the reviews for Adobe Acrobat 6.0 I was depressed. Not only do I not have Windows XP, or Windows 2000, or NT installed in my machine (The only operating systems that will work with 6) I also couldn't muster up the confidence in the product after so many people were giving it the thumbs down. I want to create an eBook, and Adobe Reader is the most popular reader out there, with some 400 million, to a half a billion users with it installed. What a dilemma. I kept coming back to read some more. Finally I found the answer. I bought a new Adobe Acrobat 5.0 here at Amazon from one of their vendors, and it works great with my Windows 98SE. I planned on buying the 6.0 upgrade after they got the bugs out, and or I got a new computer with XP. Then I found out that 5.0 was the only version before, and that was the professional version. 6.0 Standard is a geared down version of 5. Ok, so it has some additional features, but it is missing all the rest of the professional features that 5 has. Merely a Stepping Stone
Since, for some unknown reason, Adobe doesn't offer a direct upgrade path from Acrobat 3 to Acrobat 6, I bought this Acrobat 5 Upgrade merely so I could qualify for a free upgrade to Acrobat 6.Not only is this silly of Adobe, it's also expensive.Instead of buying an Acrobat 6 package, sticking my old Acrobat 3 CD into the drive, and continuing on my way without further hassle or expense, I had to buy the Acrobat 5 upgrade, go to the Adobe website to find their customer support phone number, call them via their 800 number, get them copies of the receipt, pay a token shipping cost, and then install the new software.What's even worse is that I've spent over six weeks trying to do that.Amazon got me the package immediately.But, so far, I've had to talk to Adobe (at their expense) five times.The first time was to find out that the upgrade existed and get the instructions for faxing the information to them.Supposedly, my fax never arrived.Then, I had to talk to them about that and get a snail-mail address.Supposedly, THAT package never arrived.Then, with my next call, I managed to get an email address to send the documents to.Again, supposedly, that never arrived.Finally, I talked to a person who had me re-fax just the receipt and my Acrobat 3 serial number.She called me back within a half an hour and we completed the whole process (confirmed my shipping address and got a credit card number for the shipping fee).Besides the hassle I had to go through, this upgrade must have cost Adobe a bundle in phone and support personnel costs.The free upgrade period from Acrobat 5 to 6 is over now, but Adobe really needs to come up with a better way for their old Acrobat 3 customers to upgrade. ... Adobe Acrobat 7 standard
It has some nice upgrades from version 6.It is quicker than the previous version. Highlighting text is a bit easier. It caused a few problems with my officejet 5510xi and its ports, but I found a patch for the officejet and all is well.It is a product that is helpful in my work.

Cleaner look and feel
The new Adobe Acrobat has a cleaner look and feel, and is more user-friendly.I especially apreciate the new quick distiller buttons in any Microsoft application, which allow you to create a PDF in one click rather than having to go to File and Print. Some functionality as before, with some new organization and better look/feel.

Best yet
After using 7.0 for a few weeks I find that this is the best yet. The speed of opening attachments and the compression when making them is fabulous.I highly recommend anyone to upgrade to 7.0. ... Read more

Great functionality but misleading samples and slow speed
Acrobat 7 introduces much new functionality in both document review and forms creation.I found the document review functionality to be very well done and very powerfull.It has great depth as a review and markup tool.It is in the area of forms creation with Designer 7 that I found problems.First I found much of the information misleading. I was interested in some specific functionality that PRO was supposed to turn on for Viewer only users.After activating that functionality and finding that it still didn't work with Viewer, I learned that it wasn't just the PRO version of Acrobat that was needed but another Adobe server product costing tens of thousands of dollars.Kind of like giving someone a key to the bank when everything of value is stored in the vault.The second issue was one of speed.I took an existing form created in MS Word and converted it to Acrobat.That process worked well but when I added dynamic elements things slowed to a crawl.Dynamic elements are things like, areas that expaned as users type or checkboxes that show or hide form areas as needed.Everything worked, but some elements took 10 seconds to refresh on a 2.4 gig computer.Lastly a warning about the new file format used by Acrobat 7.The forms functionality provided by Designer 7 changes the Acrobat format into an entirely new file type.As such that new file type does not work with many (any ?) exiting Acrobat compatible server products.In fact it even prevents Acrobat Pro 7 from doing things like batch combining of Acrobat files.Time will most probably solve both the speed and compatibility issues.I just wish that software manufactures would provide a document showing the pluses and minus offered when upgrading to a major new release like Acrobat 7.

Hair-pulling Conflicts with Word
I've wasted hours and frustration trying to figure out why I kept losing my changes to MS Word's AutoText and normal.dot template everytime I closed Word. Two long calls to Microsoft's tech support could not identify the problem. Next stop, my local smart computer guy, who sniffed a software conflict and through process of elimination named the culprit: Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0.
Massive compatibility issues - Beware!
That's right if you have fillable forms created in a previous version and expect to change them, your out of luck.I thought compatibility was the cornerstone of Acrobat.

Get Adobe Acrobat
This software is billed as completely compatible with the PDF document format. Unfortunately, it is not. It will suffice for an occasional text document, but not for a complicated layout, or for publishing forms.
Great Product
After being screwed by Adobe (don't ask), I did some research and bought this product.Great, works better than the Adobe version at a frachion of the cost.What could be better? How about not dealing with the a##holes at adobe customer support!

Very Buggy - Junk
I already own Adobe Acrobat Professional but decided to try this software. It is bad. The interface is not clean and it has great difficulties printing PDF documents downloaded from the web. On a 40 page document it would only print 20 pages and hang everytime. I became so discouraged with it today trying to download a users manual for a household product that I removed it from my system and reinstalled Adobe Acrobat and was able to download and print the documenty in question faster and with no problems handling the 40 pages.

Superb OCR but Registration Hassles
This software seems brilliant - does a very accurate job of scanning and decoding. It could be improved by allowing for multiple page scans (without having to set a timer for page insert)It will defintely save you time. IT does not appear to have an page storage/filing system like some ocr programs but 5 Stars for its scanning and decoding.

Crashes consistently with Canon LiDE 25 scanner
OCR, with this program, simply does not work with our hardware. The program crashes. We have the latest version that just came in the mail. What a waste of money.
Don't get fooled again!
I bought ReadIris 7 based on its price and on the claims made on the package.It was terrible.ReadIris promos and manuals claim the program gets smarter as you use it.That is undoubtedly true, but it starts out so stupid that you have a huge amount of work ahead of you just to get it functioning even close to the way it should.Frequently it expects you to go through an entire document with it and tell it which bitmaps represent which letter.This can be incredibly time consuming.

Avoid: "Worse than Malware"
Don't take my word for it that's a quote from the title of a recent post excoriating this irritating and increasingly bloated product on Slashdot. Bummer
If you use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) don't buy it!Links to your previous .pdf simply don't work.Adobe knows about it, but have no viable work around.Stick with prevous versions.

NO-BRAINER, GET IT.

InfoPath is an awesome product that allows the creation of electronic forms quickly and easily. What , no VIEWER???
I would have to say this product is pretty amazing. However, to use it to it's full capability would require you to have a robust Active Directory, Windows 2003, Sharepoint Portal Server, Exchange 2003, SQL Server 2000 and a ton of trained end users.Read more

An Indispensable Tool for Any Pro
Acrobat 7 Professional on the Mac offers very little over Acrobat 7 Standard. The windows version includes a whole extra program (livecycle designer) for creating forms and using xml data. The Mac version does not include that program.

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!
If your requirements are simple and you just need to generate pdf documents without all the bells and whistles of the expensive software, this is the deal of the decade! It simply works. Word docs, web pages, pictures, everything I have thrown at it converts great! It even puts easy-to-use macros in your Office applications, and MS Internet Explorer. You may have to play with resolutions on some pages to make them fit correctly, but generally it is "plug and play."
