New to payroll
If your new to payroll give in and buy it.I bought the standard payroll and it was much easier than doing payroll manually, especially since I'm still trying to figure what I'm doing.But like all the other Quickbook products, no support and every other page is a way for you to spend more money.Does not support Workman's comp , not even a place to build your tracking and if you void a check it screws up the YTD and it won't let you delete a check.I have to call and pay to find out what's wrong.

Not very impressed with Simply Accounting Basic
I was hoping I'd like this more than the corporate bookkeeping system I currently use.We have an acccountant, but like to keep track of the day to day books and cash flow.I was hoping this would be a little easier on us (two of us handle bookkeeping and neither of us have a background in finance or accounting).
A great piece of software at a great price!
I' would like to start by saying that I made the mistake of buying Microsoft's Small Business Accounting 2006 first.I got sucked in because Microsoft offered a rebate that made it about the same price as Simply Accounting.I thought, "What a bargain!"

I have used QuickBooks since 1995 and find that people who are writing negative comments aren't really talking about the product BUT rather how phenomenally cheap they are.

I'd rather deal with Tony Soprano
I don't have a problem with the way Quickbooks works, but paying [$$] a year for the tax tables is pure (...). When I was forced to upgrade to QB Pro 2003 it at least came with the payroll tax tables for the year. This year if I wanted to upgrade to QB 2005 they wanted [$$] for the upgrade and [$$] additional for the tax tables. Every year they come up with a clever new way to cheat their customers out of their money.

I am not the most computer literate individual, but was able to get Checkmark Payroll up and running quickly (after reading the manual).It does all that I need it to do.

I bought this software from Amazon; last March (05). I spent weeks looking, calling and trying different payroll and accounting software. CheckMark is awesome; I run a small business with four employees. You can't get setup and running any faster or easier. YOU PAY WHAT YOU GET FOR.......
This software is not friendly user. I call the support tech and they got back to me a week later,and they stated they will charge me $25.00 an hour if they had to answer any other questions.Even my brother who is a accounting major couldn't figure it out.Stck to quality programs.

Not so simple to use....
First off, I know nothing about accounting and this software was not so simple to use.I purchased it because I thought it could help me manage my sales through ebay.Horrible program.The moment I loaded up the program I was totally lost.I didn't know which feature controlled which function.I read the book and that's totally worthless.I tried calling customer support and it seems they were not so knowledgeable about the product either.Way too overwhelming if you are not an experienced accounting guru.I found this product very disappointing.The only thing I liked about the product was the guaranteed refund that the company provided on the box.I returned my item with receipt to the company and got my money back.

I currently use Ver. 2004 and have not upgraded to v. 2005 but I can say that I love this software.It is inexpensive and does everything you need it to do.

Software comes with 2001 tax tables!!!!!!!!
My copy of this software came with outdated tax table information!It will be returned faster than I can say "JUNK"!It turns out that the tax tables for year 2001 came with the software and to upgrade you have to pay more money.Essentially, you cannot use the software as it's provided to calculate any withholding for the current year!Save your money and time - buy another payroll program.

Barely adequate basic program
The basic EZ payroll program will calculate the amount of paychecks but that's about it; some reporting functions are there but are difficult to get adequate results with. Most irritating is the fact that many of the functions that the program ought to perform are not available on the basic version; you have to buy the upgrade to get them. As a result, much of the payroll information is "hidden" once it enters the program; the buttons for accessing it are mentioned in the "help" windows, but don't exist on the basic version.In my opinion the inexpensive basic version is little more than a come-on to hook you into buying the expensive upgrade. They should certainly mention that fact prominently in the ads.

Not as Bad as the others say - but could be better
While looking for a different deposit slip template (it only comes with one) I ran across a couple reviews here saying how bad this software is.
A Total Waste of My Money
After purchasing this product, I couldn't get it to successfully install the font that is required to run the program.I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled until my patience ran out.I figured "no bid deal, you can always call customer support to get help."Then I found out you have to pay per minute to speak to customer support because as the company explained, "tech support has not been figured into the price of the product."Well, not wanting to pay more money than I already have into this product, I resorted to ordering my checks from the bank.

QuickBooks compatibility
This product claims compatibility with QB but doesn't deliver. QB will not export data in a format acceptable to Checksoft; Checksoft will not import data from QB. Tech support is a joke ... $25 for first 10 minutes ... forget it.I spent too many hours this week trying to get this to work and it just isn't worth it. ... Read more

Best Accounting Software for Business
I am a professional accountant who worked with all kinds of accounting software.Quickbooks Accountant Edition 2003 has all the functions that both small and medium size business can use.It even has contractor functions, not much different from Timberline that is 100 times more expensive.With basic understanding of accounting, almost anyone can use the software.All other drawbacks such as necessity to purchase additional software to process payroll is negligible compared to the cost of more expensive accounting software.The quality of this software is excellent.Never pay the software producer for consulting, because Quickbooks is very simple to use and almost self-explanatory.

Quick! QuickBooks Premier Contractor Edition 2003
An interesting introduction to Accounting software. I had been using quicken and the jump in user knowledge needed was tremendous. Intuit is decidedly unsupportive when it comes to product instructions and support and I will be looking elsewhere for my next software package. It is possible that I will use continue to use QB but I would reccomend that new QB users start out with a less expensive version. The "more accurate estimating" is all user inputed and while better than anything you find in quicken I believe QB Premier advertisement overstates its usefulness. A great program if you need all of its features

The ONLY OPTION For Multiple Currencies
MYOB is the only small business accounting package that can handle multiple currencies.Neither QUICKBOOKS nor PEACHTREE can handle multiple currencies.If you have customers or suppliers paying or billing in different currencies this is really your only option in a sub-$500 accounting package.The other big MYOB plus is its report generating capability - you can pretty much customise whatever you want.They currently have a $100 rebate offer (unlike QUICKBOOKS you do not need to be a prior user to qualify) so this is a screaming buy.Also note that MYOB is the market leader in pretty much every major market outside the U.S.MYOB spend their budget on PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT for major upgrades whilst most of their competitors spend their budget on ADVERTISING to support relatively minor annual upgrades (think about that for a minute...).

Software for an invoiced based business only
I purchased this product based on previous reviews and reading the back of the box. This product is not for the retail store. If your business is based on invoicing single customers for projects or jobs and parts used, then this is your product. If you have any other sort of need, then avoid this product. I was sadly dissapointed to find this out after I already purchased it. There is no way to reconsile the inventory if you don't track each sale by each item number and by each customer. Anyway, live and learn.....
