Avoide Scansoft 14 or 15
Both versions of Scansoft cause my installer to have problems. Mainly it tries to re-install Softscan every time I start up Softscan. Also It has started to try and reinstall Softscan if I try to right click on a JPG. There is very little to no chance of getting any help from Scansoft (Nuance)to debug this problem. Save your money and buy some thing else.

buggy software
Omnipage is a buggy piece of software which is prone to throwing errors and mysterious crashes (often occuring at the end of a lengthy process).Nuance provides no support and when you attempt to contact them they want $9.95 for an email question or $19.95 for a phone question.You might expect this from an inexpensive piece of software but for the cost of Omnipage you would expect some support.I recommend finding something more reliable from a company that provides some measure of support.

OmniPage 15 OCR
This product appears to be very powerful and no doubt it is however, the thing I need it for is to scan. I find its character recognition to be so so! Surely it should do a better job on typed letters. I find myself having to edit the document so much that typing the original might just be easier!I do like its picture scanning capabilities though. Very, Very slooooowwwww
The idea of the product is great, only if it worked as it is supposed to?
Worst Support Ever
Buy this product and pray is works flawlessly because the support is the worst I've ever had to work with.Our upgrade from version 10 to 11 caused the scanner to perform twenty times slower making it un-usable.I can't imagine why the upgrade would do this and trust that support never will either.

Not Recommneded
I have used PaperPort 6 and 9 and decided to try version 11.This version is slow as molasses!If you have more than 30-40 scans in a folder it takes a long time to open the folder and if you switch between folders with a large number of scans you just wait and wait for the thumbnails to reload!A huge waste of time.Switching from a file in desktop view to thumbnail view also very slow.The current image stays, then fades away as all the thumbnails RELOAD.

Longtime user of paperport
I have had some trouble with each version. Update number eleven sounded good. Wrong, version eleven is GARBAGE. I want a useable version for the hundreds of dollars spent buying their BUGS. If it did what it said on the box I would love it, I need it. It is to unreliable.

Support options are a disgrace
I've used Paper Port for several years, starting with the version that was bundled with the Visioneer Strobe Pro. It was the only game in town that I could find and, having learned how to use it, I stayed with it through version 10 pro. I have not had substantial problems with it that could not be solved using their knowledge base. But, after a recent reformat when I had to reinstall the software, I found I could not activate it. It was brought home to me again that Nuance's policy of charging for all e-mail support after the first incident is no longer acceptable for a piece of relatively expensive, complex software that requires a certain level of computer expertise to install, run and maintain. I was thinking of upgrading to V. 11 but since v. 10 is fine for my needs as were versions 7, 8 and 9. I won't throw another cent down that Nuance upgrade rathole unless and until they change their policy on supporting it. If you have a previous version of PP that is working and that serves your needs, stay with it. It is obvious, after reading the other reviews, good and bad, the Nuance has not yet learned the nuances of making an easy to use, reliable product nor has it learned how to provide the support that the people who pay for their software deserve. P.S. the activation problem turned out to be a server glitch on their end that I only learned about after chancing a call to their (free) Customer Service.

It's a good program . . . but it takes some effort to install
The other reviewers are complaining about the program being buggy.The first and second times I installed the program, I made the mistake of not turning off my Trendcillin Antivirus Software, SpySweeper Software and a registry repair program and of not uninstalling the previous Paperport version and PDF Converter.PDF Converter is another Scansoft/Nuance program which stopped installation of the PDF Create! 3 which is included with Paperport 11.When I uninstalled and/or turned off these programs, I was able to install the Paperport 11 Professional fully, and it functioned correctly.I then reinstalled the other Nuance product which also worked correctly and rebooted the machine to restart the Antivirus. Probably, it would be business and marketing smart for Nuance to make these suggestions as part of the installation procedure for Paperport 11 -- that is if they want people to continue to purchase their products.The sole reason for the four stars is the installation drama. ... Adobe Acrobat 7 standard
It has some nice upgrades from version 6.It is quicker than the previous version. Highlighting text is a bit easier. It caused a few problems with my officejet 5510xi and its ports, but I found a patch for the officejet and all is well.It is a product that is helpful in my work.

Cleaner look and feel
The new Adobe Acrobat has a cleaner look and feel, and is more user-friendly.I especially apreciate the new quick distiller buttons in any Microsoft application, which allow you to create a PDF in one click rather than having to go to File and Print. Some functionality as before, with some new organization and better look/feel.

Best yet
After using 7.0 for a few weeks I find that this is the best yet. The speed of opening attachments and the compression when making them is fabulous.I highly recommend anyone to upgrade to 7.0. ... Read more

Great functionality but misleading samples and slow speed
Acrobat 7 introduces much new functionality in both document review and forms creation.I found the document review functionality to be very well done and very powerfull.It has great depth as a review and markup tool.It is in the area of forms creation with Designer 7 that I found problems.First I found much of the information misleading. I was interested in some specific functionality that PRO was supposed to turn on for Viewer only users.After activating that functionality and finding that it still didn't work with Viewer, I learned that it wasn't just the PRO version of Acrobat that was needed but another Adobe server product costing tens of thousands of dollars.Kind of like giving someone a key to the bank when everything of value is stored in the vault.The second issue was one of speed.I took an existing form created in MS Word and converted it to Acrobat.That process worked well but when I added dynamic elements things slowed to a crawl.Dynamic elements are things like, areas that expaned as users type or checkboxes that show or hide form areas as needed.Everything worked, but some elements took 10 seconds to refresh on a 2.4 gig computer.Lastly a warning about the new file format used by Acrobat 7.The forms functionality provided by Designer 7 changes the Acrobat format into an entirely new file type.As such that new file type does not work with many (any ?) exiting Acrobat compatible server products.In fact it even prevents Acrobat Pro 7 from doing things like batch combining of Acrobat files.Time will most probably solve both the speed and compatibility issues.I just wish that software manufactures would provide a document showing the pluses and minus offered when upgrading to a major new release like Acrobat 7.

Hair-pulling Conflicts with Word
I've wasted hours and frustration trying to figure out why I kept losing my changes to MS Word's AutoText and normal.dot template everytime I closed Word. Two long calls to Microsoft's tech support could not identify the problem. Next stop, my local smart computer guy, who sniffed a software conflict and through process of elimination named the culprit: Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0.
Massive compatibility issues - Beware!
That's right if you have fillable forms created in a previous version and expect to change them, your out of luck.I thought compatibility was the cornerstone of Acrobat.

Horrible Product
I am really thinking of returning it to Amazon. I think I will stick with good-'ol MS Word. You see I wanted a 12-page form and spent two days creating it. It's a form to survey boats so it also had graphic areas for photos (about 12). Well, all seemed fine until you printed a filled form to .pdf. The size of the created .pdf was near 10MB! (Similary done with MS word resulted in a 1.2MB finished .pdf). Well, I can't be e-mailing 10MB files!
Missing some features, has a learning curve, overall good
I really like OmniForm 5.Actually I'm using version 5.1 and I'm very satisfied with it.

One of the BEST purchases I've EVER made!!!
We were using Adobe online PDF creator (at $99/year) and was having a difficult time due to files being too large or the website timing out or being down so I spent $30 on ScanSoft PDF creator 3.0 and figured if it doesn't work, no big deal, but if it does work.. hey.. GREAT DEAL!And it's fabulous!!Although I cannot edit documents already set into PDF format, I can still go back to my MS Office documents, edit there and reprint as a PDF and just replace the old one.
Great way to create PDF files
I put out a semi-monthly newsletter which I need to convert from MS Word to PDF for distribution.I thought my options were open source software or Adobe.I tried one open source tool, but couldn't get it to work right and couldn't get technical support.I was pleasantly surprised when I did an Amazon.com search for Adobe and found out about this software.
Better than Adobe!
This progam is a great value.It only cost $50 a copy and my company bought it(plus PDF Converter Pro for those in our organization that need to edit PDF files and fillout PDF forms) instead of Acrobat and saved a ton of money.I works really well and lets us combine multiple disparate documents into a cohesive package when we are processing loans.Adobe is a good product, but way overpriced.We didn't want to spend $300/copy so everyone would have the ability to create PDFs.This product is really a "PDF for business" solution instead of PDF for graphics pros like Acrobat. ... Nuance? More like Nuisance
Needed to convert a PDF file today.Created an account to order the downloadable version thinking I'd get it right away.Paid via PayPal.Received confirmation e-mail but no download link.Checked status..."under review".Check PayPal..Nuance grabbed the cash already.Checked status..."under review".Tried to send e-mail asking how long review would take...need to create a separate account just to contact them.Decide to call instead.They say PayPal takes a couple of days to process.I say "You took the money out of my account already".I say "cancel the order".They say "Can't do that..it is under review".They suck.Google Nuance Communications and see the lawsuits and crooked behavior in the past.This is my last dealing with Nuance Communications.I have NO idea what the product is like since they seem to be unable to provide modern online transactions.What do they have?An e-mail box that someone opens up once a day to manually process the orders?

Useless
It worked horribly, if it worked at all. The main purpose I bought this is to convert pdf document into MS Word. The word file is barely useable - the formating is messed up, the font is changed, etc. If you want to generate pdf from word, it does not work well either. Some figures are completely messed up. ScanSoft software is a big joke for any serious use. It is not even worth $10.

No Zero Star Available? Ugh.
The only thing worse than version 10 is version 11. On a computer with 3.0 gHz dual core, 2MB RAM, 1TB Storage, this program is EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW when viewing any more than a handful of documents! I need SEVERAL HUNDRED per folder, and it is coming up FAR short.
Awful Tech Support; Actually Non-existent support!
Just bought version 11 online due to a problem that just occurred with PaperPort version 9. Thought I would upgrade to see if it was a Windows problem, or a Nuance issue. Never really got to find out, as this product only installs to drive C:. Couldn't get it to find drive J: where the previous version was installed. Nuance wanted $9.95 before even looking at the problem!!! I've been a computer engineer for 15 years, and never heard of a company not even helping with their "buggy" software to install- What a rip-off!!! Stay away from Nuance products.

I started using paperport 8, 3 years ago and liked the product.When version 9 pro came out, I purchased it and really liked the PDF file feature and had no problems with it.It was slow at first, but I changed my virus scan software to not scan every file I opened and it corrected the speed.

Crashes consistently with Canon LiDE 25 scanner
OCR, with this program, simply does not work with our hardware. The program crashes. We have the latest version that just came in the mail. What a waste of money.
Don't get fooled again!
I bought ReadIris 7 based on its price and on the claims made on the package.It was terrible.ReadIris promos and manuals claim the program gets smarter as you use it.That is undoubtedly true, but it starts out so stupid that you have a huge amount of work ahead of you just to get it functioning even close to the way it should.Frequently it expects you to go through an entire document with it and tell it which bitmaps represent which letter.This can be incredibly time consuming.

Avoid: "Worse than Malware"
Don't take my word for it that's a quote from the title of a recent post excoriating this irritating and increasingly bloated product on Slashdot. Bummer
If you use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) don't buy it!Links to your previous .pdf simply don't work.Adobe knows about it, but have no viable work around.Stick with prevous versions.

NO-BRAINER, GET IT.

I buy all kinds of software and I never, never... well hardly ever throw away software even after several years and then I usually donate it to the Friends of the Library bookstore before I throw things away.I threw this away within two weeks of installing it.

Don't buy Paperport 10 or 11.Your computer is at risk.
I am a longtime Paperport user and fan.I currently use Paperport Pro Version 9.0, which is excellent.

We use Paperport 10 with a Fujitsi scanner on XP workstations and it works like a dream! The directory management and file sizes are amazingly good. The ability to browse and display pages quickly and easily are excellent. That's the good news.

Good Product - Poor Features
I have purchased both OmniPage and ABBYY and the difference between the two is impressive. OmniPage really does read documents better than ABBYY. The accuracy in the spreadsheet view is fantastic and smart enough to recognize when rows and columns are different from page to page.
Upgrading makes your opd files unreadable
While I was dazzled with the improved OCR accuracy, that can't make up for it silently making my old opd files unreadable.It is no good to read in the readme after installing that Omnipage 15 can only read files created in 15 and 14.Since the install process located version 11 on my machine, it *knew* it was going to make me unable to look at my previous research scans, and could have warned me that this version is not capable of reading my files!

Works Well with German but Not Russian
I purchased this pen to help with Translating some books.
Iris Pen Executive
I found the orignal Iris Pen II under Windows 2000 far superior to the Iris Pen Executive under Microsoft XP. Both the Iris Pen II and this new design does not integrate as well with Microsoft XP. Aligning the executive type pen with the text is far more difficult than with the II-type pen. The device does function and is faster than typing. However, the performance of the product has degraded under the XP operating system.
