Nothing but problems with this card reader
I would NOT recommend this item.I had problem after problem with it and, in the end, it was not useful at all.While the tech support email service was notably quick in responding, their fixes could not salvage this effectively useless product.

DISILLUSIONED
It's difficult to rate the product, as I never managed to complete a successful download. The support e-mail was no use at all, and after 35 (yes, 35) e-mails backwards and forwards I've given up any hope of getting a CD or my money back. I've told them to give the money to the tsunami appeal.
great for scripts
This software allowed me to convert a script that I did not have a digital copy of in a few hours.It was simple and kept almost all the correct format.Unbelievable!I did not even know something like this was out until I bought a new printer/scanner and OCR software was on the CD. Not impressed
Just about the only thing I find this program useful for is creating a PDF file out of a scanned document.The OCR functions yield too many errors and are barely acceptable when compared with those of Omni-Page Pro, or even Readiris 8, which came with my printer/scanner.

I am not one to gush about products, but IRIS really delivers bigtime.I LOVE the professional Read IRIS OCR product 10.0 version.It is fantastic!If your lot in life is similar to mine, you will fall in love with IRIS, too -- i.e., someone who spends half his/her existence scanning docs, converting image and word files to adobe and emailing revisions endlessly back and forth.IRIS is very user friendly, not to mention WAAAAAYYYY cheaper than Adobe writer and does everything it does and more, including producing the best, cleanest OCR scans EVER, and that includes a lot of expensive equipment I've used in the past. This product saves me so much time and money.I use it virtually every day to scan documents and to convert tif image files to adobe format.It is really really easy to learn to use; very intuitive, and you can pick it up easily without reading any manuals if you are at all familar with OCR-type software.One feature I am gaga over is that you can convert numerous documents into one Adobe file easily just by clicking on each file, instead of having to save them as separate files, and you can save all different file formats as one Adobe file, as well.Also, if you email to people who have trouble opening image files, converting your tifs to Adobe will be a snap for you and save you headaches in having to resend.I've never had someone ask me, gee, how do you open an Adobe file?Also, if your image files are too large for your email program (like mine -- a measly 2 MBs!), IRIS can be preset to automatically compress your Adobe files so they are as small as possible.I just sent a 21-page Adobe file that was mere KB's.IRIS pro ROCKS! ... Great accuracy and speed!

Stay away from IBM Viavoice for Mac osx
This program consistently fails to recognize even the slowest speech. I've trained it for three readings and it still makes a huge amount of errors. The errors don't even resemble a phonetic approximation, let alone what I dictated.Correction is user hostile. It doesn't seem to learn as I painfully try to correct the spellings. This voice recognition software isn't one tenth of Dragon Naturally Speaking for the PC.

More trouble than it's worth
Clunky with system 10.3, I agree with the previous reviewer, this is not functioning properly in system 10.4. It wasn't worthwhile when I bought it, but I was too slow finding a USB compatible microphone to find out before refund period ended. Pass.

Wow... The guy at company support told me it only works on documents with less than 50 pages.That was after I scoured the web site for info.I sent it back unopened (so the star rating is for the deception on their site).
Left me wanting.
The product falls short of its marketing hype.The User interface is somewhat quirkey.Over all the product is satisfactory for my needs.

FineReader Pro 5.0 comes with support for more than a hundred languages, although it spell checks only around 25 of the more common ones. Poor Installation methodology
I have owned this product for a number of years and it ran well on Windows 98se.I just recently upgraded to Windows 2000 on a PC that does not have a floppy drive.It is not possible to reinstall this software without a floppy drive.Copying the floppy to another media using a machine with a floppy does not work.It appears you must use a native A: drive. The subst command also does not work.

Very much the best
I do a great deal of OCR in my research and have scanned tens of thousands of FineReader 6 (FR6). I have also tried every other OCR software that is available for PCs. There are other good packages that can serve some needs adequately, but for my work, FR6 is superior in every respect. In particular it is substantially better than the most popular OCR program, OmniPage Pro 12, as well as quite a bit less expensive. Others might have different preferences depending on what they do and what their equipment and software are.
