Word
the only reason i bought this was because i didn't have microsoft word and i wanted it but the problem is trying to find it without having to buy the entire office program of works. i wish they would just sell it by itself. so instead of the Word program you get a word processor that only has a few small differences with the actual Word program like it is missing a built in Thesaraus. there are a few other small differences but the program is completely compatible with the Word program. you can save and edit Word documents. that was all i really wanted to begin with. so if you want a cheeper way to get Microsoft Word or something really similar to it, this is the way to go.

Not a bad product but there are better for product for free
I have been using Works for years as I had used Microsoft Office but I never used anything more than Works offered for a tenth of the price. The new version 8 is a good step up until I tried Sun Open Office which is free. This product is a full blown office suite and it is free. I doubt this will get posted but try both work and open office and see yourself

Updating Software
Keeping my software up to date is important to me.I was no longer able to update Microsoft Works 99; and it had become an important adjunct.I was glad that Amazon had the new version at a reasonable price. Microsoft Excel
Wonderful program, allows a lot of options that are not available with other similarly advertised spreadsheets. Very user friendly.

More Possibilities with your Numbers & Data
Excel is a XML mammoth because of the integration with the language. The ability to migrate data between different storage sources and extraction of information to make it flexible in different scenarios. By the way I returned the Home Edition, because I would prefer the standard edition.

Impressive
I have been very pleased with Wordperfect X3. I have always thought that Microsoft Word was over-rated.
WordPerfect and Quattro Pro are also "Home Edition"
I purchased this product needing to work on a personal legal (nonbusiness) matter, so the noncommercial license was fine for my "home" use.Good thing I checked with Corel after buying it and seeing the "Home Edition" captions not only on the total suite packaging but underneath the "WordPerfect" and "Quattro Pro" components (inside front box folding cover with velcro).Corel ultimately confirmed to me that "certain components that are designed for the business customer, such as Legal Tools, MetaData Removal, Document Compare, Quickfinder to name a few are not included in the Home Edition version."Corel needs to make this clearer in their marketing of the "Home Edition."I focused on the word processing application, but the Quattro Pro application is also captioned as "Home Edition" so it may be missing some features available in the Quattro Pro included in other Suite versions (Standard, Pro, Student/Teacher, etc.).The Home Edition may still be suitable for some users, but I'm a strong believer in "full disclosure."WordPerfect itself is a great program.Try setting point sizes with decimals in Word -- you can't.Try changing the size of the font in legal pleadings in Word -- there's no direct control of it (the Microsoft site instructs you to change margins and number of lines per page to attempt to get Word to adjust the font size) [but remember, you need any WordPerfect version other than Home Edition to get Legal Tools]. ... as bad as BG's MS word 2003
I used to love wordperfect. Now I regret using it for my PhD thesis (and spending research funds). Can't handle a 100 page document with graphs(how pathetic is that).

Like WP X13
I have been a Wordperfect user since the release of 5 on a 486 machine.I have used 7,9,10,11,12 and now X13.I liked what they did to the icons and now the use of pdf in WP.Corel has enhanced these features, icons, and made them updated as well as made them more user friendly.I am a WP person and not a Microsoft Office user and plan to stay that way.They really made X13 much better and made it to still be easy to use and navigate with. Its worth the upgrade price and its still in my opinon is the best word processor around.Its a good and solid product.Go buy yourself a copy. ... Read more

A Quality Improvement . . .
If you look at my review history, you may note that I've given very few five-star reviews. I save five stars for outstanding products. I believe Wordperfect X3 is best described as outstanding.
Does Not Perform As Advertised
I upgraded from Wordperfect Office 12 to X3, but have returned the upgrade to Wordperfect.The much touted ability to import PDF files is so poorly implemented that it is all but unusable.In addition, the Wordperfect Mail component will not load data files while my antivirus (ZoneAlarm) is running in the background.Corel Technical Support takes no responsibility for the incompatability.Do not upgrade unless these issues are addressed. ... Great update
I've been a File Maker user for a long long time (Claris days). This lastest upgrade is fantastic. I programed the databases we use at work for our contacts, calls, quotes, packing lists, RMAs, POs, etc. We have a mix Mac/PC environment and FM fits right in. It's an invaluable tool.
Like a bunch of databases applications, all in one product.
Think you don't need a database?What about for managing customer contacts, sending email campaigns, tracking inventory or handling expense reports? All that stuff is easier when the data is organized as collection of records - or, as a "database."

This time about not being able to run it on Windows 95, 98 and 2000.Well, I'm using XP Pro.Long story short, I just right clicked on TASK LAUNCHER, THEN COMPATIBILITY, THEN UNCHECKED THE COMPATIBILITY MODE BOX, and the program started up.I also had to uninstall Office 2003, which uses Word 2003 because Works Suite 2005uses Word 2002. But there is a major problem with the new version.While running a VBA macro program that I have used daily for over five years, it is SLOWER on a 2 GHz machine with XP that with a 300 MHz machine and WIN98.The reason is excess security that can not be turned off like in Excel97.At first it was ok, a little faster than the old machine and then I suppose a critcal upgeade with XP has now slowed the program to a crawl.Microsoft has both a security problem and a hangup about security.But running a virus scan on my old and proven macros everytime they run is not the answer.If you are not using any macros then the new Excel may be OK.A better choice would be to find an old version of the program. Good, but not$$$ better than OpenOffice.org Of course, Excel is a lovely product, though whether you need the upgrade is highly questionable. I found this pretty much just MS trying to create a need they can charge for.
