Good product gone bad
I used TurboTax in 2000 and 2001; it was simple and error free. But 2000 was a nightmare in several respects. When I tried to locate the self-employed health deduction location, for instance, I simply got a message telling me what had to be done and the software didn't take me there. I had to do a manual override. It kept telling me there were errors (I was using EasyStep) but when I would fix the ones it found it would tell me there were more than before. I opted to download the current upgrades, which, it said, would take just a "few minutes." At 56k it too an hour and a half. Then it printed the quarterly estimated tax vouchers for 2003 with letter across it saying that they required a software update to print properly. We're in July of 2003 and they aren't ready? They have turned a relatively simply and effective application into an abomination. It took me 5 hours to do our simple taxes, and I eventually had to just send the forms off with "error" still being reported. The prior two years I spend about 2 hours using TurboTax.

On the down slide
Many errors, awkward. I've used Macintax and turbo tax for many years. This year was the most problem filled one yet. Ane they make the filing rebate harder and harder to collect. Worked nearly flawlessly for me
I have used both Kiplingers and TurboTax products in the past with good results, and this year's effort using TurboTax for Mac was no different. Very user friendly tax software
I have used TaxCut for several years now, and really appreciate its convenience and ease of use.The software works like an interview - you answer a list of questions, and when you are done, your tax return is complete.It picks up the data from prior year returns done on TaxCut, so if you use the program year after year, it gets progressively easier and less time-consuming to prepare your taxes.Clear explanations are provided for every entry, potential problem areas are flagged, and your return is compared with average taxpayer returns in your income bracket so you can see if your deductions etc. are out of line with the norm. The state program for my state is also very simple to use.In my opinion, using TaxCut is far simpler and less stressful than either doing taxes by hand or using a tax preparer.

Don't use Tax Cut if you have to file an Oregon State return
Last year I used Turbo Tax and was able to file my state return electronically.This year I switched to Tax Cut and it doesn't support E-filing the Oregon State return.Now, at the last minute, I have to print and file a manual return. This will add about 2 months to the time it takes to get a refund.Next year it's back to Turbo Tax, no matter how bad it is, it's better than Tax Cut.

Disappointing; about as good as TurboTax was 2-3 years ago
I switched to TaxCut from TurboTax because reviews said it was as good as TurboTax but without TurboTax's copy protection scheme.Unfortunately, I was disappointed.Entering Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) transactions was much more difficult than last year's TurboTax.The capital gains wizard was almost no help.The online instructions and help were much less helpful, and the help had a much poorer index.Read more

IT'S DEDUCTABLE
NOTHING TO INDICATE DEDUCTIONS THAT YOU MAY BE OVERLOOKING. NOTHING INDICATING THAT THE PROGRAM CAN ONLY BE USED TO TRACK DEDUCTIONS DURING 2004, AND CANNOT BE USED FOR ANYTHING IN ANY OTHER YEAR. REALLY NOT WORTH THE MONEY.

It's worse now than ever!
Last year (2004), I used ItsDeductible for an entire year, keeping track of my donations of clothes, money, and other items.I was also able to use the software to keep track of my job-related expenses that are deductible (ie research expenses of a professor, job related journals, etc.)There was also a space to keep track of medical expenses.I loved it, and it saved me some money. I just received my new, *not* improved 2005 version, and suddenly, everything has changed.Basically, they made the software LESS useful.They have eliminated the medical expense and the professional expense sections, and now there is only the bare-bones charity donation record keeping.And even this has been drastically cut - many specific categories of clothing, for example, have been cut.Last year, I could be as specific as denim jeans or silk blouses - this year they are listed as "women's pants" and "women's shirts" with no variance in the price that they are "worth."Because of this, I am pretty skeptical that this would pass an audit, so I am now keeping extra records of these donations DESPITE buying the software.I suspect that the company could care less - what are the chances of an audit, anyway?It is probably cheaper for them to avoid refunds when consumers don't achieve the promised 500.00 savings than it is to fear the IRS audits, which are few and far between.Final word - rather than improved, this new version is worse.I could do just as well with a notebook and a quick check on ebay for values.

Too many items missing
I just spent 1.5 hrs entering 80 items.Only half of my donated items were included in the ItsDeductible database.I had to manually enter the other half and estimate the value on my own.

Not worth the time or the money (and don't download it!)
I downloaded this software directly from H&R Block as part of an offer for the rebate to get the software free as part of purchasing it with Taxcut. So, I downloaded it with Taxcut, figuring, why not? It's free! WRONG! The rebate if only valid for "retail" purchases (i.e. not downloading it - what a ripoff!).
Buggy Software that Does Not Save Time
After manually entering many "non-cash" items, I found the total amount for this category was not reflected in the summary page and shown as $0. The data would also not export to Taxcut. When contacted, the technical support "help" was to re-enter everything and if that did not work, to re-install the software. The software did not save me time - it doubled the time it would have taken to just enter the information directly into Taxcut.

Good for the basic stuff, nothing more
I had no install or functional issues with this product, however my complaint is this: for $19.99 this software should know armoire, stereo CD player, etc.Basically it has a database of the most common household and office items, nothing more.In the long run will it help you save more money?Maybe, depends on what you are trying to claim.

Piece of cake!
Flawless and no problems. I have switched to Intuit because prior programs (Tax Cut and Tax Act) would not allow me to e-file my state return (Arizona), because they did not contain a form I needed for a state credit. Turbo Tax solved that issue last year and this year as well. State program installs with a blink of the eye, and complements Turbo Tax Deluxe beautifully. This was only my second year with Intuit, but plan to 3-peat next year.

Bug won't let me e-file, customer service no help
I have used Turbo Tax (a competitor to TaxCut) for several years with great success. This year I tried TaxCut because of the lower price, and was seriously disappointed. The program will not let me e-file, because it misinterprets some of my data (details below if you are interested). An email to customer service was never answered. An hour-long call (at my expense) produced no help. A promised return call never came. The final answer from customer service is that I simply cannot efile with TaxCut. The program also crashes occasionally. I have to paper file this year and will never use TaxCut again. Tax Cut

I'd really love to give this product 5 stars, but I couldn't print my return (HP printer) and emails to customer service were unanswered. Just finished doing my taxes with it. It imported my last year's data with no problems, and continued to work without a hitch. (MacOS 9.2.2, lots of memory). (haven't tried the state version, or printing to an HP printer.) If I had a nit to pick, it would be that the point in Taxcut's interview where you enter your state tax refund begins by saying "Did you or your spousereceive a form 1099-G for2001?" It eventually goes on to mention that this is the place to enter your state tax refund even if you didn't get a 1099-G, but I missed that the first time through. Read more

Mandatory C-Dilla malware/spyware.You don't want this.

Dissapointing
I have been using quicken for about three years now, and I recently upgraded to 2001.So far, I'm not impressed.Although Quicken's checkbook entry system is outstanding, most of the other features suffer from numerous drawbacks.The Tax Advisor is cumbersome to work with and has known problems with displaying information on the screen.As far as I can tell, Quicken also offers no updates once the tax year changes (other than forking over another 40 bucks or so for the 2002 edition), making the Advisor absolutly useless for planning your taxes beyond one year.The budget planning and debt reduction tools are not user-friendly and too simplistic to apply to real-world situations.Stock quote updates occasionally download invalid quotes (negative numbers, massive gains/losses, etc).The car price lookup service has no information on my 18 month old car, and the home price lookup is equally useless for the other 150 million of us who live in rural areas.Quicken is also a memory hog, and I've watched it continue to slow and bog down my system over time.The engineers better wake up and realize that as users enter more data over periods spanning years, the program must be streamlined to handle the increases in data.Come on, Intuit, this is a program for those of us who want to improve and learn about how our finances work.The 'massses' don't buy your product (most are oblivious to these things and like to stay that way), that's why we have AOL.So stop treating us like a mass market with all the ads.If this gets any worse, I'll be looking elsewhere for financial software.

Great way to organize
I upgrade every year and this version wasn't a disappointment.The ability to track all aspects of my financial life has always been a focus, but this version is now helping me with the immediate future.Tracking bills, payments and deposits has never been easier and it is giving me more vision into what my family can and cannot do financially....

Why are we paying the same price to download?
I ordered and downloaded this version of quicken and discovered that all the multimedia parts are not included!! Had I known this, I would have ordered the real product with cd-rom instead. We can't use the self help movies because of the missing cd-rom disk. The rest of the program works fine, but I felt that the description of the download would state that certain files are not included. I would also like to see a price break as well. sprovost ... No one likes to do taxes
I have read the reviews on all the Tax software.All I can say is that no one seem to have anything nice to say about any of them.I think that people are so upset when there doing there taxes that they cant say anything good about anything.I have always used Turbo tax but was thinking about switching to tax cut.I just dont think that its going to make it more easier.

This software is the worst that I have ever used!
It's funny, I'm actually a CPA who specializes in tax compliance.I usually use Lacerte software from Intuit, but I moved and had to finish my partnership at home.I bought TaxCut, and I figured that it would be fine since I'm familiar with taxes.I was wrong, it was full of problems, very difficult to navigate your way around.The partners capital didn't generate to the K-1's correctly.I finally got it all worked out, but it was a pain, especially for an easy partnership.Anyway, I'll be going to TurboTax for everything next year.They have always been better to me.

Execrable
When I installed and ran this software, I was told the "Interview was missing" for my 1120S. That's nice. It immediately reminded me of when I installed Doom 3 and was told "3D Rendering Engine Missing," or when I bought Microsoft Word and got the message "Fonts and Printer Drivers Missing."

Getting a rebate is nearly the toughest thing I've done this year; and I don't have it yet! Turbo Tax Business or bust!

MS Money 2005 Beware- Bugs, Flaws & General Issues
Money 2003 was an awesome product and I dropped Quicken after 6 years to use it. But the latest version that incorporates business forms and accounts should have remained in beta.

beware - the rebate - they won't send the rebate to you
I sent in all of my documentation for the rebate so that this would be free after rebate (as advertised everywhere).They sent me a postcard saying that they needed my receipt.I don't know if they don't take the Amazon shipping receipts or if they just don't want to issue rebates.I think that's what they count on to give so much "free" software away - not issuing $$ back to purchasers.This was the first time I've purchased tax software and I won't buy this product again - ever.

I find that this product makes Mass Tax so much more enjoyable. I don`t like doing taxes but using this product makes them fun.

Many bugs in Turbo Tax state
I have used Turbo Tax for many years, but this is the last. The NJ state version has many calculation errors and bugs.Technical support says it unable to help,as the calculations are to complicated for them to understand. The program rounds up figures when importing from federal program. Beware of this program, especially if you paid excess UE & DI.Many other errors.No fix available.Avoid this product. ... Read more

Premier not worth it; stick with Deluxe
I've been using TurboTax for many years. Until now, I've always used TurboTax Deluxe for the free state download. This year, I decided to try TurboTax Premier for the "Tax-Slashing Tools".
Last minute buyers should avoid
TurboTax Premier would not install on my XP system.It just hung during the part where fonts are installed.This bug is known to tech support but nothing they told me or sent me worked. Getting help was arduous.I'm going back to TaxCut.

Not as good as last year's
I was very happy with last year's version for 2002 tax returns. I own rental property and using TT helped guide me through depreciations and other considerations that I had done differently on my own. This year's edition of TT has become confusing and even completely passes over the deductions for automobile use. I've read a couple dozen of the many reviews for the Deluxe version and the same problems exist here. You'll have to download a fairly large update and you'll likely have problems with fonts. I realize the tax code has changed dramatically, but that doesn't let Intuit off the hook. Read the reviews of the Deluxe version and you'll likely be scared away. ... Read more

Did what I needed it to do
I thought this product did a workman-like job of doing what I needed it to do.I liked that it interfaced well with the Federal version.

Don't bother if you live in Oregon.
The software doesn't support electronic filing for the state of Oregon.What a joke.Last year I used Turbo Tax and it had no problems filing my state return electronically.That's a lot Block.
