5-0 out of 5 stars Final Draft 7 does the job.
When I wrote my incredible screenplay on Final Draft 7 I was amazed. My first screenplay was done on Word and took forever to format. The only problem is that my screenplay sits and waits for representation--it's an awe-inspiring story and I can be reached at wlux22 at aol dot com.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Beginner's Thoughts.
Even though I have done a lot of writing in my life, I had never written a complete screenplay.I've had lots of ideas, but had never written them down.I finally decided to get some of these ideas out on paper.I knew from talking with friends who already work in the industry that script readers are very particular when it comes to the format of a screenplay and that one formatting error can cause someone to throw away an otherwise wonderful script.I considered other screenwriting software, but after speaking with my industry insider friends and doing other research I felt that FINAL DRAFT was the best software to get.I've been using FINAL DRAFT 7 for awhile now and have not had any problems with it.For writing screenplays, I love this software.I have not had any trouble with the software not loading and I've not lost anything I've ever written (though I tend to save a lot of my work frequently anyway).I've read most of the other reviews about FINAL DRAFT 7 on Amazon and it seems that people either really like the software or they hate it.I fall into the former category and have found it quite useful. For a beginning screenwriter, it works wonderfully. The only downside I have with the software is that it is quite expensive. As an educator, I was able to get a discount. FINAL DRAFT offers a discount for students, educators, and military personnel, but if you're not able to get that discount then the software is about double the cost that it should be.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a transformation!
Reformatted previously written scripts. The script was transformed to a professional looking one.I was going to rate this a 5 but reformatting is a slow process but well worth it!I have still a lot to learn! Loved it immediately. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Word
the only reason i bought this was because i didn't have microsoft word and i wanted it but the problem is trying to find it without having to buy the entire office program of works. i wish they would just sell it by itself. so instead of the Word program you get a word processor that only has a few small differences with the actual Word program like it is missing a built in Thesaraus. there are a few other small differences but the program is completely compatible with the Word program. you can save and edit Word documents. that was all i really wanted to begin with. so if you want a cheeper way to get Microsoft Word or something really similar to it, this is the way to go.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad product but there are better for product for free
I have been using Works for years as I had used Microsoft Office but I never used anything more than Works offered for a tenth of the price. The new version 8 is a good step up until I tried Sun Open Office which is free. This product is a full blown office suite and it is free. I doubt this will get posted but try both work and open office and see yourself

5-0 out of 5 stars Updating Software
Keeping my software up to date is important to me.I was no longer able to update Microsoft Works 99; and it had become an important adjunct.I was glad that Amazon had the new version at a reasonable price. My previous saved files were updated with the new installation with no problems. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Writing scripts for film, television, and theater is usually a time-consuming task. There are many elements in a script (i.e. scene headings, character names, dialogue, scene breaks, etc.) that must be correctly placed in your script. Following these conventions is essential in making sure your script is receiving proper attention from agents, producers, and contest judges. Screenwriter works by your side, automatically formatting action, character name, dialogue, and other elements as you write your script. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for what I Need
This all started when I began writing a screenplay on spec. I setup my Word program with as much of the Hollywood standard format as I could, but I started having problems with certain elements (e.g., parentheticals within dialog, CONT'd's at the end of pages). So I picked MMS because it seemed to be the most powerful at the lowest cost. I also liked that it had play and novel formats. It did a decent and fairly painless job of importing my screenplay from Word. Unfortunately, it turned many of my shot headings into character elements for dialog. I had to manually fix all these, but MMS made changing the type of element fairly easy.
4-0 out of 5 stars best of its kind, not as popular as it deserves to be.
I'll keep this short because I'm supposed to be writing!I used to use Final Draft for all my TV work (Wire In The Blood, Hornblower).I even recommended it to the BBC when they still used Word for screenplays. Then a friend and producer showed me Screenwriter and I have never looked back. It's far more intuitive than FD in so many ways, it makes it easier to just concentrate on the text. And technically Screenwriter is far more solid - I have never used a version of Final Draft that didn't have numerous really irritating bugs, which tech support could never seem to resolve despite endless patches.I haven't patched Screenwriter for years quite simply because I don't need to - it just works.I'm sorry I ever backed FD now, but it's almost the standard program in the UK.I often write my stuff in Screenwriter and import it into FD for submission.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best out there....
Of all the screenwriting / scriptwriting software out there today, this is by far the best one. Everything you need to get started is there and it's very user friendly. I had never used it before but was able to start writing within minutes of opening the box. I also recommend david Trottier's book The Screenwriter's Bible, as a companion for the software. I have found both to be invaluable. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Huh? I give it a 5 for DO NOT BUY! for Arabic, at least.
This is not a great product for Arabic.Microsoft brags that its "Translation Dictionary" for Arabic, included in the software, includes a database of 450,000 words culled from all the major dictionaries out there. But if you try to enter in a semantic grouping of two or more words, such as a verb plus a preposition, you usually get "no entry found."This problem also applies to words that are inflected in any way. Also, the voweling is not included. No voweling , inflections, or verbal phrases!?! DO NOT BUY THIS for Arabic, EVEN if it is your only choice....I am bilingual in Chinese. In all fairness, the conversion tools for characters are useful, but as for the dictionary, the Taiwanese Ministry of Education, Dr. Eye and Jinshanci offer FREE dictionaries that are more useful than this costly one by Microsoft. If you are from Microsoft: 1) please give us a browsable dictionary, 2) include the Arabic vowelling! 3) fire your current Arabists and hire someone better! I feel cheated! For Arabic I wish I could give this an even lower rating. For Chinese and Korean it probably deserves a positive 3 or 4, not higher because there are free or less expensive products that contain many of this products' features and are of better quality. If you are going to charge us $70, make the product good, please. Consumers: BE WARNED!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good enough for most users...
With Microsoft Office going for anywhere between $130-$300 (depending on what apps are included, there's the Education edition, Basic, Small Business, Professional, etc.) WORKS fills a gap Office shouldn't, and that's probably why Microsoft still releases it. I've used WORKS since it ran in DOS and was small enough to be run from a floppy, and it continues to be what it was, a function, if no-frills productivity suite. For most users, this will be enough to create most of the everyday letters and databases. You don't even have to bother with that annoying paper clip...
5-0 out of 5 stars A Best Buy
I have used works type products for years.Microsoft Works 7 is the best of the lot.It will work on almost any computer in use today and is definitely a best buy at the current price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Under-rated, over-criticized
I have used MS WORKS from about the time it was born, when it was quite primitive and sometimes unstable. But I have continued to use it, primarily for databases, because it has become progressively more stable and easy to use. These are not all small and simple databases--many include several thousand items, each with 20 to 30 fields of data.It is easy to "find" single items or to assemble groups of items ("filter"), and to print customized reports. So if you don't need (or want) the super sophistication of ACCESS, I have found WORKS to be a friendly and helpful--and inexpensive--alternative. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PROGRAM, BUT YOU CAN GET IT CHEAPER
Microsoft Word 2003 is a great word processing program, but I would strongly recommend the Student and Teacher edition. The Student and Teacher edition contains Word along with Exel, Powerpoint, and Outlook for about $120 AND you can install it on up to three separate computers.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it
I use Word with an all-in-one laser printer and can run scans, faxes and print from it. I have used it for several years in different veersions and I like it despite not needing all its features.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
This is my first time using any MS Office Product. I found the installation to be a breeze. Product is working flawlessly. My wife really enjoys the spell checker. Recommend this to all as a step up from WordPad.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality, took too long
Word program is excellent. It has many easy to use features, including tool bars.
5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft has Done Word Processing Right
It is hard to find anything bad to say about this program, except that it is slow as molasses on my G3 iBook. However it zips along on my gal pal Sara's G5 iMac. I mean it flies. And there is nothing you cannot do with it, from formatting a book (who needs PageMaker or Quark anymore), to writing a screen play. You can change the menus to anything you want, for example Sara has four font menus. You can save your stuff as a pdf document and your pdf opens exactly like it was in Word and I mean exactly.
3-0 out of 5 stars incremental improvements
Despite all the touted improvements in this latest version of MS Word for the Mac, experienced Word users should consider carefully before plonking down for it. The chances are that if you are comfortable running an earlier version on your Mac, then there is little need to migrate.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Around Awesome
This is an all around awesome product. I have had great experiences with the program, and use it very often as we use it to create our entire high school's yearbook. Anyone one who says it doesn't have the basics is pretty much lying to you, it has anything you'll ever need and more. The people who review this product poorly do so because they don't know how to use everything in it.
1-0 out of 5 stars It's extremely late inthe game....
...for InDesign to not have one basic features. Everyone I know still does french folds, but in order to see double page spreads in InDesign you have to lay them out wrong in the program, then you have to painstakingly go through your document and shift the entire document by one page, layout by layout. This is mortally stupid. At this point Adobe should have figured how a tool like I.D. is actually used in conjunction with a printer, not just assumed the user wants to print what they see on their screen. The oversight is the difference between avergage klunky desktop publishing software and a great layout tool. Why isn't there a button that toggles me between the layout view and priont output? Why do I have to slave over a document like this? Adobe, stop thinking in the abstract and investigate how your software can facilitate printed results.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tighter Integration Now Possible with InDesign CS2
Adobe has totally re-done the interface to streamline it and make it cleaner from versions prior to CS.If you are a QuarkXpress user, you'll find that in InDesign CS2, you get the feeling that it is laid out in a logical and easy-to-use manner. The tools and tool palettes are where you'd expect them to be in the menu structure and on the screen.Small touches like being able to save your workspace, like you can do in Photoshop CS2, are great.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Need a Version of Word
When I ordered my computer by phone, I specifically requested that it have Microsoft Word.It was included for the price of 24 bucks. It was not a bad investment.I use this program all of the time.I never use Microsoft Works (which was included for free).I knew I had to have SOME version of Word on my computer, since so many documents online are in Word format.
1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute garbage
"Word" is a very accurate title for this product, because typing words is about the only thing it can do. When I try to do something really tricky... like, say, use the paste function or register the purchase online... the program freezes up completely every time. I'm using Wordpad instead; it's a superior product. Other versions of Word I've used have worked in some cases but to hell with this particular piece of trash.

Show business loves its archetypes. One chestnut that won't go away is the image of the feverish screenwriter, hunched over a word processor, ideas flying so thick and fast that the chore of punctuation would invite creative disaster. Hollywood Screenwriter is a script-writing program that promises to simplify the mundane stuff--like proper script formatting--so creative juices can flow freely.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, reasonably priced product
OK, since we're corresponding here, I'll respond by saying I'm a professional filmmaker, and have actually used this software and bothered to figure out how to use it (all software involves a learning curve)
3-0 out of 5 stars An opinion on Hollywood Screenwriter
Briefly I would say that this product is worth the price, and it seems easy enough to follow the format.Although I have not needed any assistance at this time, an important part of using this product will be the technical support.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very serviceable
One must remember what this product is... This is the equivalent to the ultra low budget film (<$1M). This will get the job done -- the quality of the script remains in the writer not the format.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best ever
I finally upgraded my word processing program and love it.I knew I would because I have always used MS Word.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Office Ever--But Could Be Better
I'm studying to become a game programmer. I bought this product to upgrade from an older version, primarily, for the ability to make your own formating styles (in addition to having normal font, the headers, and a couple others.. you can make your own custom ones) so that managing my game documentation would be easier. That way, if I wanted to change the apearance of soemthing in the document (such as the font color of a hero's ability), I would need only to change the format that each entry was using rather than change each entry individually.
5-0 out of 5 stars Justified Upgrade for some, but not all
Word 2003 is more powerful than ever.Unfortunately, most of the new features are aimed primarily towards large business. As a result, many end-users simply won't need them (or be able to use them). The users who will benefit most from upgrading are corporate users or users purchasing bundles with new PCs.Read more

This software is billed as completely compatible with the PDF document format. Unfortunately, it is not. It will suffice for an occasional text document, but not for a complicated layout, or for publishing forms.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
After being screwed by Adobe (don't ask), I did some research and bought this product.Great, works better than the Adobe version at a frachion of the cost. What could be better? How about not dealing with the a##holes at adobe customer support!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Buggy - Junk
I already own Adobe Acrobat Professional but decided to try this software. It is bad. The interface is not clean and it has great difficulties printing PDF documents downloaded from the web. On a 40 page document it would only print 20 pages and hang everytime. I became so discouraged with it today trying to download a users manual for a household product that I removed it from my system and reinstalled Adobe Acrobat and was able to download and print the documenty in question faster and with no problems handling the 40 pages.

1-0 out of 5 stars No desire to keep up with the competition!
The only reason I ever use this product is out of necessity -update an old file made in Quark, etc.I really get the feeling that they want to coast on their earlier successes and collect as much as they can before the inevitable obsolescence brought on by Adobe, which despite their own faults, at least make obvious efforts at improving their product. There are so many reasons InDesign is better than Quark, but to summarize, it just seems much more apparent that InDesign was made by designers who would actually want to use the product. In Quark, simple processes like trying to select one graphic element among many others is a huge pain.Select everything and tediously shift select everything you do not want.InDesign will select the object you are trying for even if it is a few layers below. This is one small example of many intuitive features that InDesign has that Quark does not seem to care about.
2-0 out of 5 stars Falling behind the competition, needs urgent update, too expensive
Quark Xpress has always been a so-so software for design in general. If you are into editorial and publishing design, well you have no choice but to buy and get used to the software, because unfortunetly, it is the standard. But if you are into other fields of design, say packaging, Quark is a mega pain in the a**. Macromedia Freehand is still the best overall design tool for the way it treats object manipulation and drawing features. For instance, object allignment, text can be converted to paths, images can be replaced from one image format to another, these features cannot be done in Quark. Worst of all, you can not save documents in prior Quark versions (only 5), like all major graphic applications do with their files! Adobe Illustrator is still the best for, well, illustration. Photoshop is the king for photoediting.I don't think editing Photoshop files in Quark is a very good idea, in the end, you'll always go back to Photoshop to do it right. So the features that Quark states as a plus to justify their pricing are really not very practical, like somebody said, who would want to make a website on QuarkXpress??? But the worst is the ridiculous pricing of Quark products. Say you live in Latin America and you have to buy the passport version, Why pay more than $1000 USD if you only need it in spanish?. Should'nt some international versions be cheaper since they are going to be used in countries that have aweaker economy then the US, This leads directly to one thing, software piracy. If own Photoshop, you cant get a competitive upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite for $500 with InDesign included! So I hope one day Quark reconsiders and makes its products more accesible.
2-0 out of 5 stars REASONS I HATE QUARK.
Quark USED TO BE the industry standard for layout. They had it cornered. But in the last few years, they've managed to jack it all up.Version 5 barely improved on 4 at all, and then there was a long, long wait for the hallowed version 6, and in the meantime Adobe was sneaking up behind them with InDesign. And a lot of us started using InDesign, and maybe we got a little spoiled. When Quark 6 FINALLY came out, it was already too late for me.I'm a total InDesign convert. We have Quark at work, and I still use it regularly as projects require. But for anything I do on my own, ifhave a choice, it's an incredibly easy one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great update
I've been a File Maker user for a long long time (Claris days). This lastest upgrade is fantastic. I programed the databases we use at work for our contacts, calls, quotes, packing lists, RMAs, POs, etc. We have a mix Mac/PC environment and FM fits right in. It's an invaluable tool.
5-0 out of 5 stars Like a bunch of databases applications, all in one product.
Think you don't need a database? What about for managing customer contacts, sending email campaigns, tracking inventory or handling expense reports? All that stuff is easier when the data is organized as collection of records - or, as a "database."

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING - All or nothing Creative Suite Package Upgrades
Heads up, if you bought Adobe Creative Suite 1 Package and then buy an upgrade like this one planning to upgrade just part of it, you're in for a rude awakening.
5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing tool for the mind.
I've been doing graphic arts pretty much since the stone age. Who among you can remember gelatin transfers, mimeographs, Linotypes, or the smell of beeswax and the sharpening of blue pencils? Stat cameras anyone?

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent software, but not worth the cash
Microsoft has, as always, produced decent software. It is nothing to get excited over, but it does its job.
3-0 out of 5 stars Dont think I'll like it as much..........
as my old Works Suite 2002.I tried installing the 2002 suite on my new computer. Kept getting an error message about not being able to display the EULA agreement for me to accept, and thus wont install the Works Task launcher. I tried all the "fixes" but it just wouldnt install, so, I bought the Works Suite 2005 from Amazon.Well, I got an error message after I installed it. This time about not being able to run it on Windows 95, 98 and 2000.Well, I'm using XP Pro.Long story short, I just right clicked on TASK LAUNCHER, THEN COMPATIBILITY, THEN UNCHECKED THE COMPATIBILITY MODE BOX, and the program started up.I also had to uninstall Office 2003, which uses Word 2003 because Works Suite 2005uses Word 2002. This was on the advice of Microsoft Tech support.
