2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing.
The description led us to believe that the game was much more interactive than it actually was. Our almost 6 year old was bored with it the first time she played it. The game reads the words on the screen and has limited opportunities to click on the screen for other words to appear. There were no options for reading each section and then having confirmation, practicing how to spell, etc. Overall, a waste of our money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and fun!
Our two year old really likes this and kept asking to "watch ABC's on the computer."It includes a reading of the book, which is more involved than the video (which we also like) as well as an interactive part that our little one does not use yet.It is a nice complement to the book and I expect we will get quite a bit of use out of the interactive part in a year or so.Even though it is an old program it works fine with XP for us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great rhyme's and hilarious illustrations!
I say only Dr. Seuss and Living Books could make the alphabet so unpredictably entertaining. I do like the fact that it contains more than 400 alphabetically inspired surprises hidden within 26 pages that shows children learning words and letters which can be fun and silly at the same time!

My 7-year old autistic daughter loves this game and will play with it for hours.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Catin the Hat is Alive!
I recommend this interactive book to anyone with small children. My 4 year old loves the read and play portion of the program. My 2 year old, who doesn't sit still long enough to catch her breath turns on the computer andinsists on Cat in the Hat. As she is not quite old enough to handle themouse on her own, I click the read segment for her. She sits through theentire book laughing at the Cat's silly antics, repeating words, andhumming along with the music. It is the best of both worlds, a classicchildren's story come alive.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Son Loves It
My 3 1/2 year old son is already a huge fan of Dr. Seuss.I bought the software because he loved the book so much and he was delighted.A child can choose to have the computer read the book to them or they can choose toplay along. When they play along, it stops on certain screens and allowsthe child to click and interact with the characters and text. For examplethey can help the Cat in the Hat clean up his mess by clicking on thescattered items on the floor. My son is constantly saying "Mommywatch this...".I couldn't pull him away from this game when we firstbrought it home.He still pulls this game out quite often. The best partis that he still loves all the Dr. Seuss books. The software won't takeaway from the traditional form of Dr. Seuss. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple animations provides alot of excitement for the little ones!
Both my kids enjoys this CD-ROM. Green eggs and ham may not be your idea of a tasty treat, but this CD-ROM serves up an appetizing Seuss in a well-done interactive storybook. This delightful software from Living Books is meticulously animated with hundreds of sketches, new scenes, surprises, and activities. Your child directs the action with just a click of the mouse. And littler ones can choose the Read-to-Me mode! Children will build important skills while playing games such as Mouse in a House, the Wacky Food Concentration Game, and the Silly Rhyming Sentence Machine.
5-0 out of 5 stars wow, what fun
I can only say that our 4 and 2 year olds love hearing the story of green eggs and ham. being able to play along makes this so much fun for them! they love it!definately worth the money, in fact i have ordered more similar items so they can try them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool For Catching Up On Your Reacing
I think I like this software more than our 4 year old likes it. I guess that's because it's allowing me to catch up on my reading and watch some of my favorite DVDs. Trust me, once you put this CD-Rom in the computer, your child will stay busy for hours. He or she will be quiet as a church mouse. I also like the fact that our 4 year old also found this CD-Rom very child-friendly. When I attempted to help her she quickly let me know that she did not need any help ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Speech therapist & mom
We just bought this title for our three year old, and are so pleased! The animation is wonderful and the games & activities are age appropriate. There is enough action to keep the child interest, but not so much that they are overwhelmed.Lots of good stuff on these CDs -- vocabulary, spelling, word recognition, etc...As the interactive characters read the story, the text is highlighted and some of the words switch to pictures (the word ham becomes a ham).Overall, this is a great piece of software for young children that grows with them.I imagine we will get several years of use out of this title

5-0 out of 5 stars It makes him laugh!Awesome three disc set.
All of these discs are full of wonderful surprises!Especially the Green Eggs and Ham disc. It's classic, loveable Dr. Seuss that can be read to the child or the child can interact with the characters.Highly Recommended and a lot of fun!

1-0 out of 5 stars Technical Disaster
I'm an advanced computer user, but this software brought me to my knees. I finally gave up trying to install it on my XP system. It is not supported by The Learning Company, and their help sections for the package are useless. Waste of time, waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unusable on modern windows machines
Please DO NOT buy this product for your child. The software was written for Windows 98/ME in 2000 and has had only minimal updating since then.It relies on QuickTime v4.If you have installed any other more recent version of QT on your machine - for example to run the latest ITunes you will be using V7.1 then the installation will fail.By removing your QT installation and allowing TLC to install QT v4 you can get the software installed, but it will then fail on execution with a quicktime initialization error.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cat in the Hat,,, it's good, but it's not all that.
Though somewhat juvinile I found the game still enjoyable. It was challenging sometimes because it was genuinally difficult to do some of the thing that needed to be done, and other times it was because they didn't explain well enough what you had to do in certain situations.Because of that, I recomend that everyone new to the game look at control settings to find out what moves this cat has up his hat.One of the reasons I enjoyed the game is because I enjoyed the movie.Although not in a story mode, it was still fun to chase Quinn out of every corner of the mutant house. However I must warn some people that the extra points are not just bonuses.Sometimes you will need a certain amounts of points if you want to continue the game, plus if you get all the points out of a level, that part of the house goes back to normal. For boss lovers I'm sorry to say that their are only two of them. That's why I think that the Cat in the Hat is a mixed bag.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good game
I was a little worried about buying this for my 4yr old because of all the computer problems people have reported here, but it works just fine.My son loves everything Cat in the Hat, so he adores this game.Overall, a pleasant game.(The background music gets a little annoying, so that's why I gave it 4 stars.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Does Not Work
I installed this game on both of my computers. Both of them are new and far exceed the minimum requirements to run the game. The game will not run on either machine. I can install the program but the game will not start at all. Very disappointing for my 5 year old who was so excited and has been waiting forever to play this game. I sealed the box back up and returned it to WalMart, even though I didn't buy it there. I got store credit which was fine with me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Seuss Winner from Learning Company!
This is my third CD-Rom purchase from The Learning Company, and I can't give them high enough ratings. The first time my 4 year-old son played the Green Eggs & Ham CD (after having devoured their Cat In The Hat game -- see my review of that CD-Rom for more details), I thought it was a let-down. Shows what I know. My son wanted to keep playing it, and after one or two times, he discovered in this game the same level of depth, creativity and imagination as we found in the Cat In The Hat CD.In fact, this CD even allows you to select more difficult levels of play for the matching game (at which my son, at the highest level, is much more adept at than I am -- apparently I need to stick to the first level!).5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Education!
I purchased this software for my 4 year old son because I was getting tired of renewing it over and over again at the library! He would sit at the computer playing with this software for hours, if I would let him!A juice box and a bowl of goldfish and he'd be all set.:-) 5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old loves this game!
We had to buy this for my son because he couldn't stop giggling when he played it at the library... and it's hard to maintain an "appropriate library noise level" with all that giggling :)Read more

Filled with fun activities, kids can turn the house upside down and inside out playing three games: The Balancing Act, The Clean-up Machine, and Pop-Up Activities. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Introduction to Computers for Young Children!
I bought this CD-Rom a year ago, in preparation for my young son's inevitable interest in computers.I had no idea what it did, what games it had, etc. When my 4-year old son put it in the computer for the first time, I was blown away.It is so much more than the review indicates. This core of the disc is the Cat In The Hat story, but the level of interaction is awesome. On each page, you first hear/see the story. When the narrator is finished reading (or the characters are finished talking) on that page, you get to play. You can click on every single image on the page and it does something creative and entertaining. And not just the characters.I'm talking the floor, the doors, the window shades...even the stairs.Long after my son and I had started playing and I'd been through each page dozens (maybe hundreds) of times, he discovered new things to click on that were even more enteratining than those I'd shown him.For example, in the page showing Thing 1 and Thing 2 flying their kites in the hall, if you click on the stairs it starts moving like an escalator, mall "muzac" starts playing, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 appear on the escalator as shoppers, saying, respectively, "I've sure got a lot of things to return," and "I've sure got a lot of things to destroy."This program is absolutely darling, and you grown-ups won't mind being called over to the computer repeatedly when your little one announces, "Mom, look what happens when I click on the Cat's hat!"5-0 out of 5 stars Cat in the Hat
Have used Dr Suess books, especially Cat in the Hat, to teach English to young learners. With the animation and learning support offered by this excellent CD-rom, language development is readily stimulated. The children beg for it day after day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good buy
I first saw this software in my local library and immediately decided to get one for my 3 year old.The program is as good as I expected. It installs very easily, runs well, has some animation while reading with different voices for the characters. It is a fine job overall, and my son loves it.The whole story lasts 15 minutes, and so far he has spent an hour or two a day watching it without me prompting him. There is also a part of the program where one can click the items on the screen and make it do something, but my son doesn't know how to manipulate the mouse yet. I suspect he will enjoy it later. Considering the fact that the book itself costs around $7, 10 bucks for a whole CD doesn't seem out of line at all. There is one small drawback: there is no direct way to quit the program in the middle of the book -- no "Esc" or "F1" key can bail you out of there.I got out once by pressing the windows key and then close it in windows, which is not the proper way to close a program and I felt guilty doing it. They should have designed a way to quit at any time gracefully, I think, but this is not a big problem.Overall, I am very happy I bought it. ... Read more
