5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful computer animation and fun story
Kids don't usually learn much science (in public school anyway) and this computer game REALLY helps to fill that void. It is educational, VERY attractively designed, interesting, and my [...] daughter really enjoys it! It's not too hard either.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good blend of storytelling and fun
We got "Math Blaster" for our six-year-old, who has been a very savvy computer user since he was 18 months old.It was so difficult to maneuver the character (jump over wrong answers, run through correct ones) he actually cried over it.
5-0 out of 5 stars My 5 year old adores this game!
My 5 year old son love the Mia character and the stories. He loves the math(which does involve time), too! Even though the age group for this game is 6-10, he had no problems on Level 1. He only needed a little help with the time telling. As for the people that say this isn't educational enough I would say that it's not boring! My son has played the game over and over and never tires of Mia! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHY NOT MAKE IT FUN!?
I have every single (that I know of) Math Blaster game out there. My kids love them all. I saw this one and couldn't resist buying it. My 12, 10, and 7 year-olds all play this version. (It's too simple for the 12 year old, but he plays as a reward for piano practice - so I'm not too concerned about his refreshing earlier math skills.) My thought it to have each child play the grade level above theirs, and that's ususally right where they're at. Yes, there are a few annoying glitches in the way some of the characters can and cannot move around (I don't play them myself to know well) but I would hope that children are not so whiny that it matters too much. I think every family should have Math Blaster Geometry, Algebra, and all grade levels. If you can make math fun, and use it as a POSITIVE REWARD...that is called a "win win"! :)

2-0 out of 5 stars OK but some serious problems
This concept is good but the user interface and playability is terrible. My 7-year old was frustrated with being forced to use the keyboard and no mouse. And we couldn't figure out a way to go back to the main menu without exiting the game. And playing a later level requires you to go through all the earlier levels.And...did they actually test this thing on humans? What a waste of potential. It is a good concept.

1-0 out of 5 stars A HUGE Disappoint !!
My son had an earlier version of Math Blaster, it was wonderful.I saw this new version and expected more of the same.WRONG!!After 10 minutes of loud sounds, and pulsing video, he was complaining. It was impossible to focus on what he should do with all the distracting background stuff. Never could get to a point where learning might take place.Wish I could get my money back.

Editorial Review

"Not too long ago, Zoombinis enjoyed the good life. Though they alllooked slightly different--different eyes, noses, hair, feet--such differencesmeant nothing to the Zoombinis. And so they lived happily on Zoombini Isle, making small, useful products, which were prized the world over." So begins anunsuspectingly addictive CD-ROM, featuring uncommonly fun reasoning games thatrequire serious problem solving and math-thinking work. Yet the perils that facethis cheerful society are not as fearsome as the amount of time you'llpotentially spend on this pursuit. Beware the chubby, chattering Zoombinis ifyou don't want to get hooked to your computer for at least 90 minutes asession!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Why I like Zoombinis
Hi, my name is Manuel, I am 6 years old and I like Zoombinis a lot because of all the adventures they go through to pass activities and discover new lands. I also like them because the stories are very exciting.
5-0 out of 5 stars So much fun!
This is one of the very few computer games where there are no glitches. The graphics, sound, and over all logic of this game are wonderous. Though some people may say it is for younger kids- they are wrong, my olmost fourteen year old cousin loves it- and even adults like it! It's not the same puzzle over and over agin either- clear directions and changing goals and directions give this game a little lift. There is so much more I could talk about with this game- but I don't want to bore you- overall this game is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love'd this game!
I was probably 14 when I played Zoombinis. My aunt had it for my cousins and well for her too, and thought that I would really like it. Not only do you learn and have fun it's so addicting. The best part about it is that you don't even realize you are learning. I am now 24 and recently purchased the game for myself. Not because I need a refresher course but because I enjoyed it so much. I think that this is a great game for the classroom. I've encouraged many of my friends that educate to install into their classrooms. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good for building logic skills
I tutor children for a living and I have found this software to be very good for building logic skills in children. It is stimulating to them and doesn't lose them by becoming difficult too quickly. This game is much better than it's math and reading counterparts.Although they are useful, they span too many levels at one time.I would say Thinking Adventures can be used as early as 3 years and still can remain challenging until 5 or 6 years of age.You can leave a child alone with this software for 2-10 minutes at a time (I would not recommend children playing on a computer for longer than this as they need physical stimulation), whereas most educational software for this age requires constant instruction from an adult.

5-0 out of 5 stars Math Adventures is Great!
I bought RR Math Adventures three years ago, and my son who is now almost 8 has used it off and on ever since. When he was younger I sat with him and explained some of the easier concepts, and little by little, he has finished the disk.I'm especially impressed by his understanding of fractions - which they haven't had in school yet, and currency - since we don't even live in the U.S. and he's never even seen U.S. money. Not to mention that English is a second language for him.I think that speaks very well of the teaching methods of this program. I've also run it on Win98 and XP with no problems. We've enjoyed this disk very much.

1-0 out of 5 stars Says XP compatible - but not
We got this game since our boy will be going to Kindergarten this fall. The description said it was XP compatible - but it won't even load.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good beginner game
My son has been playing this since 2 1/2 year old.He can play it by himself, although he does use some trial and error, especially the pattern game and the what's missing game.My 5 year old daughter who loves Dragontales shows, is not interested in this game, which suggests that the game is too easy for her.I like that the program automatically advances levels, unlike many of the other software we have.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better for the younger set
This game markets itself as appropriate for 4-6 year olds.I bought this for my 5 year old and she beat it in less than 30 minutes. The game itself is extremely short - only 6 activities. This may be better for 3 and 4 year olds just learning to count and learn shapes. But for those already competent or even familiar with them, its a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Educational
My four year old enjoys this. The look and sound of the software is the same as the PBS show. Some of the activities my four year old can do by himself while others require some help from mom or dad.The software gives directions for your child to follow. There are activites such as counting and shape sorting and other activities that require an understanding of bigger/smaller, up/down, etc.We have about four computer games. In order of preference our son likes Dragon Tales followed by Little People Farm/Airport, then Clifford Thinking Adventure and then Finding Nemo.Overall, Dragon Tales Learn to Fly is a good value that runs well on my older Windows 98 system.

5-0 out of 5 stars my kid who HATES math LOVES this game
This is the BEST educational software I have purchased. I have to PRY my kid away from it. She has learned SO MUCH without even knowing that she was learning math. They disguise learning very well. You won't be disappointed. This is a keeper!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS RULES !
I frist played this game in school and i had so much fun so i asked my mom for it and thats what i got. my favorit part was buying the arcade that is so cool. also the hardest one was when you'r at the peir the guy with lopster is the one. i recomend this game to any one. even aldults!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great software
I bought this for my 8-year-old to spend more time practicing math. My son likes math and he likes playing this software. He asks to play it rather than needing to be prodded, as he was with the Math & Science Excelerator I bought for the same purpose. Even the neighborhood kids come to play it with him. I would also recommend it for kids having trouble with math as it puts the concepts into visual perspective, rather than just repeating equations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great math game!
I bought this for my 8 year old daughter, whose weakest subject is math. She LOVES this game and will literally play it for hours. It consists of all kinds of different math games that you can play at three different levels of difficulty.I am just VERY pleased with this game.Suddenly math is FUN for my daughter!

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Educational and Really Fun
My six-year-old daughter, who just started first grade, was completely engaged playing this game. It has a nice layout to explore, lots of activities, and it adapts to a range of skill levels. It was challenging enough to be interesting but not too hard to "win" and save the day for the city.I would give it five stars if only the arcade games were playable -- they were much too hard for my daughter. But she didn't seem to mind, since she really enjoyed everything else.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Just "Okay"
There are not many good options in software for children, so that this at least rates as okay is something. It is educational for sure and definitely teaches math and grouping of sets for faster counting, money values, etc. But it could be more appealing for a 5-year old boy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Toddler Software
I bought this for my son when he was 2. He really liked it then, but didn't have the mouse skills to use it alone. Now that he is 3 this is his favorite computer game. His mouse skill are good enough that he can play it on his own while. The games involve pre-math skills like sequences, sorting and matching. As the child completes tasks correctly, the games become more challenging.

4-0 out of 5 stars Need to update to Mac OSX
The product seems nice, but runs in a clunky and confusing Mac OS9 window.i wouldn't recommend this for Mac users until it is updated.

As a parent and former preschool teacher, I can highly recommend this game.My 5 year-old comes back to this game again and again. The activities in this game are creative and unlike other preschool games. My daughter particularly enjoys one game which requires choosing the heaviest/lightest toy, and uses a scale in addition to numbers to show the concept. There are games to teach sorting by multiple characteristics, pattern recognition, and addition as well. All games are fun and provide hints if needed, with constant reinforcement. This game is a worthwhile addition to your software collection! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Two winners in one package!
We purchased this for my 6-year-old when she was in kindergarten. Now she's in first grade and reading at a third-grade level.Pooh can bear a small part of the credit for that, as this bright, fun, joyous pair of CDs contains lots of good letter and word identification games that have helped her go from "I like Mommy and Daddy to read to me" to "Let me read to Mommy and Daddy."The math CD is just as much fun, but of course the game is numbers, not letters and words. These programs are perfectly on-target with the characters and with the teaching methods, and hey, everybody loves Pooh and his friends.Excellent package.

5-0 out of 5 stars Repurchasing because I loaned it out!
I am a home childcare provider and was a teacher and all the children have loved these. The reading one has helped all my children with letter identification and sounds and the math is excellent as well for counting, one to one correspondence and more.I believe in it so much, I am buying it for my second child to use. These are the best of the Pooh learning games if you ask me!

5-0 out of 5 stars The 3 kids love it!
We have three children ages 3, 3, and 5.All of them love it and I even enjoy taking a turn or two :).The games teachexcellent skills for school and stress math and reading in a fun and interesting way.The kids love earning items to be put in their garden and contraptions to be added to their treehouse. We have to set the timer so everyone gets a turn.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for second graders and home motivation.
I teach a first/second grade combonation class. This math program allows my second graders to learn at their own abilities, and my high first graders to be challenged. The program keeps track of the students progress and allows them to correct the problems they missed.(I like that a lot!)Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kids loved it !
I bought this on blind faith ($40.00) because my daughter was having trouble with Algebra. This program not only helped her in that subject, but encouraged her to go on to Geometry, Trig and Pre Calculus!I recommend this program.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointing, and rather clunky software.
When you buy this software, you expect professional layouts, and a professional feel.Well when you first open the software, you feel like you just opened a cheap website.Once you enter the index, which is clunky in itself, you will have to choose which math topic you wish to study.Once you enter your section, you have to scroll through tons of info just to find what you are looking for, although you can use edit and find to find some text that you are looking for. This information that this software offers is not complete. For example, in the Algebra section, it does not give you all of the instructions on factoring quadratic equations, even though it gives you huge complicated questions that it expects you to know the answer to.I am studying to major in Mathematical Science, and I would not recommend this software if you are trying to learn new topics or get ahead in your classes. This software is basic review, and you had better remember things from your classes in order to understand what they are talking about. Also, if you don't have high computer skills, this software will get very confusing. ...
