Cosmic Blobs: Lab Rat Edition (Win & Mac)
I purchased this game for my 8 year old. After going through the tutorial together the game has not seen much play time. The modeling is great, but the fun factor is pretty low. I would not recommend this game for kids under 10.

Cosmic Blobs is sophisticated computer aided design for kids. We bought it for our 9 year old grandson and it proved to be too sophisticated for him to handle.We recommend this game for 12 to 13 year olds or brilliant younger kids.

Great gift
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 9-year old daughter and she has played with it constantly.It includes some pretty sophisticated 3D modelling and animation tools in a very simple kid-friendly interface.She was able to learn the basics very quickly and let her imagination run wild with all sorts of wacky creations.

Great product.. but don't try in computer running non-english OS
The product is fantastic. Easy to install and to run. It has 4 discs: fonts, web images, click art install disk, click art CD1 and click Art CD2. The search engine is very good. It also has its own drawing software and also a neat way to edit the images found in the gallery. You can crop them to different shapes, rotate the image, adjust color, adjust brightness and focus, fix flaws and apply a few effects. You can then easily save the image to the disk. The discs don't't have the 400 thousand images promised, but you can access the remaining pics via internet with a very friendly online search that let you download the images without problem

Do Not Waste Your Money
I received this as a gift and upon trying to install it found that: no web based browsing
The Gold Edition Wines of the World came out of the package and loaded in like a dream after we changed the compatability to run on a top of the line operating system.The information that was loaded in was great and presented very slickly even without Shockwave.When it came time to set up the web browser is when things got interesting.Trying to get the browser to work took over and hour.When it finally did work the web site for the software was nonexistant.So we called the tech support 1-800 number to get a little help.Imagine our surprise to be directed to an adult phoneline.Oh Boy.So we called long distance to the company to get a little help.No luck everyone was out for the holidays and would not be back until the new year (wish my employer had this type of setup).Since this was a gift we ended up looking like total shmoes and took the gift back with promises to find something else.We have since decided to keep the software ourselves as we cannot return it.We currently are in contact with the company that produces it to find an amicable solution to get this software to work.Long and short of the review is that it has great infrormation, but poor web based browsing. ... Middle School Success
Don't bother buying - especially for Math.Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II and Geometry are non-existent on the CD's except as a page (no links) on the engineering cd.The rest of the cd is fun for about 10 minutes with very little learning value.Typing Tutor is okay, but boring.
Disappointing
I thought I'd try out this software because I had seen it often in the computer store and wanted to assist my 8th grader with basic middle school work over the summer break. The nicely laid out subjects shown on the box (such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II) had no corrolation to the titles included in the packet. Some of the disks seem geared toward 3rd graders and insult the intellect of the middle school student. Others are much more advanced (aka the Engineering (or "Math" cd) Funny the box doesn't mention anything about learning Engineering?)
unbelievable
I bought this program to help my 6th grader. The cover brags about having 11 CDs covering 19 topics. My first problem is, where is the math!? The first CD contains 3 games that deal with probability and engineering. The written explainations of the problems look they they belong on the board of a college engineering class.I searched through all the other CDs and there is no other math! What a let down.

Great, customizable vocabulary builder.
This program uses the flashcard method of teaching vocabulary four ways. Words and phrases are divided into lists by category. User selects a list then goes to the activity of choice to learn the contents of that list. There are a few more activities available in the Deluxe version that the free trial version doesn't have, but both versions use virtual flashcards the following way:

Dated but useful CDs
You wish the publishers could indicate the years of production and the original titles.These 4 CDs, featuring the renaissance, romanticism, the pre-modern era, and the 20th century, were part of the 10 CDs of History Through Art, starting with Ancient Greece, copyrighted by Zane Publishing Co. 1994-96.At that time they were considered highly valuable tools, essential for any school libraries. Now they are somewhat dated in the technology and design. The pictures are of slightly poorer quality, but quite acceptable. Besides numerous slides of paintings, sculptures, architecture and photos, there are brief narrations and text encyclopedias.You get a lot of interesting information, especially the historical background. There is lovely background music that matches each period of art. These 4 CDs are still very worthwhile for information and enjoyment. The price is reasonable.(They cost twice as much if you buy them separately from Fogware Publishing.)Please note the following in small print on each CD. "Product not licensed for use in schools, colleges, or public libraries." The copyright date is 2000, which is misleading.

unacceptable image quality
I was sooo disappointed by this set of CD-Rom. The quality of the images is just not acceptable, the resolution is low (not more than 640x480), and the colors are awful. Some images exhibit strong dithering artifacts suggesting that they are 8 bit only. The color fidelity is just incredibly bad. I cannot even believe that one can dare show such bad colors. I do not even know how one can manage to get such bad colors. I am not talking about the slight color shift that you sometimes notice from one book to another, I am talking about terribly wrong and ugly colors, with saturation you would not imagine and soem parts of the paintings completely washed out or darkened. Watching the Van Goghs was a nightamre, I first did not even believe that this was a Van Gogh. Don't buy this CD-ROM ! ... Read more

BEWARE - Not compatible with XP!!!!!
After reading reviews all over the internet, I was shocked to learn that Discovering Egypt was not compatible with XP - even though MANY sellers list it as being compatible! After searching more, I came across a review on another website where the person noted that the manufacturer's website even says it isn't compatible with XP... so, of course, I went to the manufacturer's website, and sure enough - IT'S NOT COMPATIBLE WITH XP. The manufacturer, "TOPICS", even has a note on their website under "Known Issues" with Discovering Egypt that says: "This title is NOT compatible with Windows NT, 2K, and XP. (...)
