Very pleased!
Our 6 yr. old daughter loves this software. I have started limiting her computer time now, because if I didn't she would play this game for hours. It works well, user friendly and the format is great. Love the colors and animation.
Worthless
I have a new HP computer.Loaded the game and it says the necessary sound card/program is not on the computer - but it is!Needless to say, the program will not run.

XP Help

The Few Disks That Work Are Good
As another reviewer noted, if you can find a disk in this package that works, it's a good deal.At least half of them didn't for me--and I tried them on several PCs, with different OSs.There's a help line you can contact, but they told me the problem was with my PCs, not their disks.

Buy a used copy!
These Encore educational sets, though labeled with the latest year in the edition they're trying to sell at any given moment, are really changed very little from one edition to the next - which explains the phenomena of the "extra" drivers needed for XP which an earlier reviewer noted.
Good software but I expected more.
I was looking for a piece of software that could help my son better prepare for middle school during the summer.One of the things that I expected was that each 'unit' would have some kind of test or quiz so we could track his progress and this title had very little of that.At this point we are using it as 'guided computer time' and looking for another package that can do a better job of tracking and reporting his progress. ... Warning for Mac users!!
The "system requirements" stated are not accurate. The "Where in the USA" game is not Mac compatible. This is clearly labelled on the bottom of the box--although the front says Mac compatible.

Beautiful!
I want access to a world atlas that help me understand current events. I like to listen to short wave radio broadcasts, as well. For example, I wanted to see the details associated with the Israeli-Lebanon conflict and using online media was a brutal experience over my 56k dialup connection. My hard copy atlas was helpful, but a little out of date, so I looked at software products. The MS program was expensive and it had many options that I didn't need or want. (I'm not a kid anymore and don't want online help with my homework, for example.) And the reviews were not too favorable for the MS product, either. 3D Globe comes with a free Lunar Map, as well. I have a small telescope. While this is not a necessity, it is a nice addition.

Elementary Advantage
Gee, I've used the Elementary and Middle School Advantage to suppliment the "Play and Learn" books for home schooling and found it acceptable. The programs can be difficult to load on newer machines but that is not our issue.Compared with what is being taught in public schools in our area, it is nice to have the opportunity to teach/learn Spanish, typing and do spelling in a game form. There are definetly things that could be improved on but as a suppliment its acceptable and usable. I particularly found the Middle School Advantage Reading disc full of books a great asset.The elementary spelling disc could use revamping by having grade graduated lists, common mis-spelled words and words grouped together with common sounds, spellings or letter characteristics.I recommend purchasing the set at the used price of under $10. and use it as a interactive suppliment.

Very Disappointing
My best advice is to save your money and do more research on other products.The fancy box is misleading as the software is terribly outdated.

Frustrating AND Disappointing
I too, have installed lots of software but I'm not impressed with this one---firstly, I tried it on Win98se---message: "Redshift 5 has encountered an error & must close". To which it closes & refuses to run at all. Tried it on WinXPsp1. "Redshift 5 has encountered an error & must close".Got a brand new P4 with a 250GB drive & a fresh copy of WinXPsp2. "Redshift 5 has encountered an error & must close".I can run it with the cd & even though I do have my key/activation code, I can download *limited* updates, but only for certain spacecraft--no galaxies or stars. No meteor showers at all. If I take the cd out of my dvd drive & try to run it, "Redshift 5 has encountered an error & must close".Even if I put the cd back in. In fact I have to delete every single entry of it in the registry & Windows or it will not reinstall---which is very irritating when you've customized it because you have to reinstall the entire program again from scratch!!! They have the WORST support site I've ever seen, not a single faq on Redshift at all! The switching back & forth to a pointer & a sky drag cursor rather than having an "adaptive" cursor like StarryNight, is a Drag as well. I was psyched & really looking forward to playing with it when I ordered it but I expected a lot better too. Not good with 2 thumbs DOWN! "Redshift 5 has encountered an error & must close".

WORKS FINE WITH XP
NG Maps works fine with XP and XP Pro. In both, the user can

Don't waste your money
I've tried installing this on two different computers. It "successfully" installed on my old HP laptop, but the software was absolutely terrible--unstable and very difficult to pull up maps when it wasn't crashing. The program just plain won't install on my new desktop (Athlon X2 3800+ dual core CPU, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo, 2GB RAM, Windows XP Pro). All I get are error messages. Ripoff
What a HUGE disappointment. I was looking for an alternative to the Summer Bridge books for my [...] son to finish out the summer and thought that, since computer time is prized at our house, he'd be motivated by CD-ROMs. After only an hour and a half with these CDs, we're both perplexed and annoyed.
Beware: one of the worst set of computer games ever
The description of the game is great, it makes you want to buy it.Do not let the advertising trick you. The games are very poorly designed, bad graphics.Most games are from the early 90's.I contacted the manufacurer after I installed the games and requested an explanation on why they sell old games as brand new, never got an answer.A waste of money!

I bought Discovering Egypt because the box looked interesting.Unfortunately, I found out after installing it on my system that it is NOT compatible with Windows XP.Their web site even says this (which I read after-the-fact).No update is planned by them.Please be aware of that.

Not intended for anyone over age 12!
The cd set will be quite acceptable to those who know nothing of Ancient Egypt, it's culture, history or religion.However, anyone who has even a limited knowledge of Ancient Egypt will find this set dissapointing.The serious minded seeker will not find any in-depth description or commentary about that which they seek.
