5-0 out of 5 stars Essential...if you know how to use it
This is actually a review for more than one product (Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone)
1-0 out of 5 stars No comparison to Tell me More software
I have many (too many) Rosetta Stone softwares for language learning, however after purchasing "Tell Me More" software I will never go back to Rosetta Stone. It is true that you can learn a lot of vocabulary with Rosetta's program but that is about it! Rosetta's software is very illogical! Honestly, do not waste your time and money with this program, check Tell Me More and you will be amazed!

3-0 out of 5 stars Price...
The price alone is what makes this product a rip-off. On it's own, Rosetta Stone is great...I mean, it's probably one of the most effective and easily accessible vocabulary learning tools on the market. However, the value of this package is not more than...60-70 bucks. 150 is a fair price for the entire 2 level package.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best German Software
This is by far the best German software. I did a lot of research before my purchase and was able to evaluate demos of other companies as well as look for reviews online and ask advice to teachers at my university. I was impressed by TeLL me More, and decided to buy this software and am really satisfied about it. There are so many different activities that learning is very engaging, videos and dialogues makes it also very interactive. The speech recognition technology is great as well, and I really feel it helped me a lot with my pronunciation.

1-0 out of 5 stars A complete joke
I have never written a review for Amazon before, but I found this product so utterly worthless that I couldn't resist the temptation, lest others fall into the same trap I did.It might have some applications for people who have ADHD and can't concentrate on a book or a Pimsleur lesson, but any serious language learner will find this program, with its idiotic sound effects, its more or less incomprehensible sound graphs, and its laborious manner of arriving at the point, a pure waste of time.People might find it fun and might think themselves special for having learned to say "Guten Abend" and "Wie geht es ihnen," but I have grave doubts any substantive competency can be gained with this method.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor value for money
I bought this software hoping it would teach me german from the ground up .This just threw me right in to speaking words and phrases I found it diffcult to use and follow.I bought a book and some cassette tapes and found them to be superior for my money for a lot less dollars.I will try them AGAIN cause I cannot take it back BUYER BEWARE. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very nicely build software
I bought the French and the Italian versions and loved them. What I like the most is the ability of the program to keep you concentrated all the time through audio, visio and interactionmaking learning of a new language (one of the most repetitive and boring tasks) an interesting one. I don't think you can recognize all the features of the program in one or two hours. I used the software for 2 days and discovered feature after feature making my work even more easier and interesting. The speech recognition is not perfect but I never found the exercises that involve this feature unpassable. You can keep on aiming for the best results or you can continue if you are happy with the way you sound. I am very pleased with this method and will give the software all the stars possible. (I am on line looking to buy the German one too.)

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept, frustrating voice recognition
After reading all the bad reviews of the Instant Immersion Deluxe 1.0 product, I almost passed on the 2.0; however, I decided instead to give it a try, hoping that a new revision would bring great improvements.I should point out the fact that I have had 3 semesters of college level German, and would consider myself to be of Intermediate level. Also, this review is being written based upon about an hour of usage with this product.I am not sure what has improved over the 1.0 product, since I don't have it; however, I think anyone wanting to learn German or any other foreign language would be better served with a good German language book (such as the Living Language Series) or a good audio course such as Michel Thomas. One of the most frustrating things is the bad voice recognition.I actually went out and bought a high quality headset with a noise cancelling microphone, however, I still seem to be having issues with voice recognition. There are times when it works great; however, there are also times, such as when building sentences with your voice, that it just cannot seem to discern the difference between certain words (my accent cannot be that bad). This makes it almost impossible to complete some of the voice excercises.Having said that, this product is not all bad, some of the good points include:

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I had never found a good learning software for languages but this is great. It is very friendly, very exciting, not boring, takes you through different drills while you are learning and gives you a lot of grammar aids. I am fascinated with this piece of art. I truly recommend this. I am getting the spanish for my hubby and I will continue with French, all by the same company.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learn to Speak German 8.1 (2002)
This is a decent software program. It allows you to zero in on your particular needs and not have to wade through countless lessons that may not be applicable to you.In my case, I was using the software in order to travel in German-speaking countries. The emphasis on spoken language is good, especially for a difficult language like German to pronounce. It helped me a lot to hear and repeat German words until I could understand and say them.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Language Learning Software
I used the "learn to Speak" program for learning Spanish and it was excellent and my spanish really improved. Now, I'm using the same program for learning German. It is also excellent and I highly recommend it.I have purchased many programs from different companies for both Spanish and German. In my opinion, the "Learn to Speak" series by the Learning Company is superior to all of them, and the price is an unbelievable value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great software to learn German
I bought this software before a trip to Germany. I found it very useful as I was able to get around for my trip. Activities are very good and engaging. An impressive feature is the speech recognition: the software comes with a headset and microphone and is able to grade your pronunciation. I fell it helped me a lot as German people were able to understand me! I already recommended it to some of my friends.

1-0 out of 5 stars It is more a game than a learning program.
This software is very difficult to study, you dont begin with the easy level instead you have to jump to a very complicated process of activities without an introduction; you will only learn some sentences, that one can use for travel and meeting people, that is all. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars So-so for the money
The idea and format aren't bad. I would have liked it if there had been a few more words to learn. Also, instead of learning animal names, which aren't very useful if you don't live on a farm, they should have included some simple sentences. A little more material or a little lower price would have increased my rating to 4 stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars There must be a better bang for your buck.
I bought this software on the recommendation of some software review site, and I must say my 9 year old daughter and I were disappointed. The graphics are sometimes hard to make out on the screen. (The animation altogether isn't very appealing at all, but that's not why I bought it . . . )And my daughter kept repeating, "But I want to learn sentences!" It's just an okay introduction if you want to learn the names of fruits and vegetables.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome For Kids
KidSpeak 6-in-1 is an awesome product for kids to have fun with and learn several languages(Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Hebrew). The animation is very fun and my kids really love this. I love the fact that my child will talk to me in a different language and I'm sure other parents would agree. When it comes down to it, Transparent Language did an awesome job with this software and I couldn't be more satisfied with it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It's not worth for REALLY learning the Language
My dad got this for me because i like to learn languages. It was misleading for me what is says on the package "each disc a complete course". It is useful for you if you want to learn basic things like phrases for traveling but NOT if you REALLY want to learn the language. If want to learn basic travel things this WILL be for you. But if you want to REALLY Learn the language you better get the Instant Immersion Laguage course devoted to one language.
4-0 out of 5 stars Instant maybe. Immersion questionable.
My dad got this for me to supplement a Latin textbook I have been studying for my high school language course. It is quick and easily understandable. You get plenty of words and phrases, which is perfect for a traveler. If you want to learn the language for the sake of knowing it, not travel, however, you'd better get a book to supplement this. It doesn't teach about pluralization, verb conjugation, or other oddities that the language holds, such as, in Latin, the ending -m which implies a direct object. The Latin CD also does not use the dashes over the vowels, which may or may not be necessary, I don't know. Overall, I am very happy with the product and with the price of $39.99 (USD), but I am also quite glad I have my textbook (ECCE ROMANI) to go with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Immersion?Doesn't get your feet wet
Rather weak. The product does not include the foreign words written in English letters, so that it's difficult to tell what they're saying. And the overdubbed models speaking the words are of no benefit whatsoever.Neither does the program help you build a useful traveler's vocabulary.Overall, a poorly designed product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for price, but very limited
This is a good program if you are going to a foreign country and would like to know a few words. But, each language is very limited. There is words like Thank you, you're welcome, yes, no, etc. I would reccomend this program for people who like to explore new languages, like me. But don't plan on learning a new language with this program. I suggest getting a book or a program that teaches just the language you would like to learn. But, not a bad price for just $20.

2-0 out of 5 stars not worth the money
Get a more language specific set of CD's. This is rather boring, it teaches basically 85 words and phrases in each language. They have characters say the words for you, but pronunciation is hard to mimic because they did not actually video tape the people saying the words. They video taped them in English, and then dub the sound over. You cannot tell where your lips are supposed to be, where your tongue should be or anything helpful for correct pronunciation. You do not learn how to order anything or conduct business. You learn "Where is the bank?" and "Where are the suitcases?" From there you could probably substitute other vocabulary words, but there are no activities in which you are asked to do so. There are no sentence formation activities. The only thing this is good for is a tiny collection of vocabulary with generic pronunciation instruction. If you have never heard a language before, it gives you something at least. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great vocabulary builder.
Before You Know It uses the flashcard method of teaching vocabulary four ways. Words and phrases are divided into lists by category. User selects a list then goes to the activity of choice to learn the contents of that list. There are a few more activities available in the Deluxe version that the free trial version doesn't have, but both versions use virtual flashcards the following way:
3-0 out of 5 stars Good concept. Poor implementation. Horrible customer support
Well first of all when I got this software I absolutely loved it. Spent few days and it really worked (I learned few hundreds words or so). Nice user inteface. Very simple (sometimes to simple, it could benefit from few advanced options). But none the less I liked it. When I started to advance and type words faster I discovered few problems like: program will hung if you type to fast (or if you turn cards to fast), some minor (but very annoying problems with editor). So I mailed couple feedbacks, request, etc. explaining the problem in details, asking whether fix/update is available and stuff. Hardly get any responce. They basically told me to reinstall it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Innovative and Very Intuitive
This product is absolutely amazing. It is an extremely useful educational tool for language learning and much more. The Before You Know It Multipack is designed for language learning, especially vocabulary, by basically using electronic flashcards. The Multipack version includes an enormous amount of content for Spanish, French, Italian and German languages and is a good place to start learning the languages or for studying/refreshing. Now this is great for language learning but in my opinion the best feature of this program is the ability to make your own electronic flashcards for anything and you can also share them with friends through email and on Palm Pilots. To me this is a must have for studying anything that you need to memorize. It is so useful and very helpful in these aspects. It also shows you the cards you have the most trouble learning more frequently than the ones that you do not have trouble remembering which in the end means that you will have a very effective studying method. This program is very user friendly, simple to use and has plethora of uses. I believe that even ifyou do not want the language aspects the program, it is still more than worth having just because of the ability to create your own cards. Ideal for students, teachers, and anything else that requires memorization. Have no doubts, Before You Know It definitely earns its 5-star rating. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
Super software for the price4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner and Refresher Course
For the low price, you definitely get your money's worth! The program covers numbers, telling time, basic words, sentences, colors, nations, foods, names of body parts, and more! I especially like that each word is pronounced, not just by one person, but by a man and a woman, so you get a little bit of variation on acceptable pronunciation. And it even has a feature where a word is first said by the software, then you say the word (you need to have a mic) and then you get to hear how your pronunciation sounds compared to how the software says it. There are tests, both easy and hard, which I personally enjoyed. And there's a game show type test option that is kind of cute and fun too. And all this is just on the FIRST of the five disks! The other disks cover such things as pronunciation tests (the software critiques how well you pronounce the words), an interactive picture Dictionary (Kind of like the Rosetta Stone Explorer series), and a cool game called "Who is Oscar Lake?" where based on how well you do will determine if you win the day or end up in prison.4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner and Refresher Course

Learn to speak German through complete immersion. The Euro Method is an easy and simple way to learn to speak a second language. Based on the same techniques that allow a 4-year-old child to speak a language long before that same child can read or write, the Instant Immersion German CDs teach users to speak German quickly. The software provides interactive lessons that truly immerse users in the language. The two CD-ROMs enclosed are from EuroTalk, a European publisher of language-learning software. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Software, But Not For The Total Beginner
I bought my Instant Immersion German sofware at Sam's Club. My software came with 7 CDs. It was [$$$]. If you are going to buy this sofware, I suggest that you find one in the same brand that has more CDs for less money. It is hard for me (a beginner) because there is no exact part of the software that shows you an English word and then shows you the word translated in German. They begin talking to you in German and you have to sort of figure it out for yourself. One thing that I did like was that my 7 CD version included 3 CDs for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced (the same program, just 3 different levels). I highly suggest to purchase this program in addition to German audio tapes and books to get a head start. But once you get a little familiar with the language, it is a perfect software to buy. The best one on the market!

2-0 out of 5 stars If a person has the time this two set cd is a winner
I started useing this product three months ago a couple of hours a night on the average and am now ready for an actual class. I really love this set of cds titledInstant ImmersionGerman.I have learned a lot; this is a winner in my book and I have never had a problem loading it on my pc.. This language set of CD's is good for beginers. My young children love it too; they think it's just plain fun..David G.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not exactly what I wanted, but the best German CD I've seen.
I was thinking of something better and more interesting, but instead, I got a bunch of little games that detract from the objective if you do not improve. I have purchased a different CD that is much worse than this one.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
I am trying to learn german and I am finding this software almost impossible to remember anything at all. They just start you right off with long sentences and nothing basic for the beginner.Avoid this product I wish I had researched more into what would help me learn another language. I give this three stars for the cultural activities that were fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
I don't know any German and I am really struggling with these CD's. They don't give you any instructions on which CD's to use first. I installed the beginner software and tried that first - I couldn't understand most of what they presented. Then I listened to the audio CD's (there are three, each with different content,) and that helped a little. The audio CD's are more helpful and I think you're actually supposed to listen to those first before trying the software. I hope to use this software when I become a little bit more familiar with German.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not beginner software
I received a B.A. in German in 1998 and spent a year in Kassel on a university exchange in 1996-1997.Since I haven't used my language skills in several years, I wanted to get something to help me get my skills back.

2-0 out of 5 stars Glorified picture dictionary
I just receive the product and installed the Spanish language program.Basically you are given a menu of sorts which allows you to select a subject area such as "food", "parts of the body", "common phrases" etc.For each area you can browse pictures dealing with the subject area and hear people pronounce each word as you click on it.You can then take quizzes to test how well you recall the words.3-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but....
I bought this CD-ROM specifically for the Arabic CD, but thought that learning some German, Korean, Japanese, and Greek would be fun.I already had some exprience with French and Spanish. And had previously bought the Instant Immersion Version of Italian. For the value of all 8 CD-ROMs it is not bad, but not great.5-0 out of 5 stars great help!!!!!!!!!!
I think this software is a help because you can learn more languages. It is important to know other languages in the buisness woeld so you can talk to all clients. ... Read more
