support for typing tutorial
I bought this typing tutorial but beware if you have troubles, they don't answer at the manufacturer. You are on your own with even simple questions. This is keeping me from rating it higher. They need to respond to folks. RM

It really scares me!

Really great for young children!
I bought this title because the first Typing Instructor For Kids got such good reviews.I was looking for a way to teach my 8yo son keyboarding.He has always had a terrible time with handwriting.I knew I needed really easy, slow-paced typing instruction for him, or he wouldn't get it.

Mine worked on XP SP2 perfectly.
I was surprised to hear that this software didn't work on others' computers that were running XP SP2, mine runs just fine. To be honest though it did take a while for the setup to kick in. After it started up the first time though it runs flawlessly.

Mavis Beacon not good for a beginner
I homeschool my daughter and know she needs to learn to type.I bought this product because of the brand name recognition.IMO, there are not enough drills.She learned the homerow pretty well but then was expected to incorporate capitalization and numbers.She needed much more practice and drilling with lowercase a-z before she moved to capitalization and numbers.There aren't even any drills to do on our own, only dictation which includes, of course, capitalization, symbols and numbers.
Problem with this purchase
Though this item was invoiced at the time of purchase; as of today, I have not received it and it has not been sent to me. Please investigate what is happening and let me know

Mac OSX in Classic mode only
If you want to run on a mac, this product requires OS9 or "Classic" mode under OSX.As a result it will NOT run on a new intel mac.

Although my 6 year old son does not have the focus to put his fingers in the correct places he likes to play the games and is learning where the letters are just by searching for them

I bought this product in July and can't get it to work with OS X. The computer wants to launch OS9 every time. A big disappointment and a waste of money.

Great product but needs some flexibility
I picked this up in a bargain bin, and now would have paid more.I was surprised that this SW enabled me to quickly unlearn bad pecking habits.
Defective Software
Like the other reviewer Mavis Beacon 12 froze at the last beginner lesson.Rather than mess around with this obviously defective product I'm trying another developers'.My computer is an IBM T40 running the latest version of XT Professional.

Typing Instructor Deluxe fizzles
The Typing Instructor Deluxe software was initially fun and performed well.However, the program turned out to be prone to errors and customer support was uninformative, even though they were aware of the software problems.Don't waste your money by buying this program.

Nice Program
My daughter loves Garfield and this is a perfect edition to our homeschooling program. She is having a lot of fun with it so far. I will say that the program did not come with a serial number which is important to installation (it's actually mandatory). I called amazon and they didn't have a clue, told me to call the company. I used the companies on line tech support and had an email back from them in about 12 hours with an accurate serial number. Here is the number they gave us:
Program won't install
I tried installing the program on our Windows XP PC (less than 1 year old). The installation keeps saying that the serial number is invalid. I've emailed and called DeMarque support and they don't respond. Though I can't give a review of the game since I can't get it installed, I've given this one star for HORRIBLE customer support.

Excellent
Read an earlier review which slammed this product. Found my students to achieve decent proficiency in typing. I use it from 2nd Grade to 6th Grade. So what if it shows a canned movie. Yep I wish it would do provide other features i.e. a network version of the product so that I can review progress charts from a single view. However, despite these "shortcomings" this is one of the better typing programs in respect to achieving results. The kids love it and any program that gets students excited and involved is half-way there.

Can teach a 6 year old to type!!!
I bought this as a gift for my six year old who wanted to learn to type on the computer,tried other products at the library and the librarian recommended this one. I installed this easily on an old pentium 166 running Windows 98.It runs better than most kids software.It does have some issues with typing too fast or too slow but frankly I think it helps you place your fingers cleanly and accurately. THE BEST!!!
I am 16 years old now.I use Mavis Beacon when i was about 9 for a few months.I felt like it wasn't working so i stopped and perodically did it once in a while until i was 10 or 11.I am now in the 10th grade.I have never taken a computer class or typing class in school and I type at 56 adjust words per minute.People ask me how i learned to type as fast as i do at a young age.When i was in the 6th grade i typed at about 40 adjust wpm.which is still pretty good!It may seem like it's not working but in the long run you'll start to type while watching tv etc.As a matter of fact, I'm looking at the tv right now as I type this review. lol!This program is GREAT! It really works, especially for younger kids.It's not hard at ALL and has really great games.It may be a challenge at first but soon you'll be typing much faster than when you start to use it.I HIGHLY recommend this program. It is VERY good!!!!

learn to touch-type....
It's fun....i've gotten almost up to the hardest level of the touch-typing. There are many games that help you learn to touch-type, yet they are fun. There are many courses to go through, and you have to always sign in as a WHATEVER user. Don't be fooled by its' cover, it looks wierd,but once you start typing, you can't stop!!!!

Okay, but a memory hog
This typing tool is useful for novice typists who want a quick, but fun way to improvise and increase their technical skills on the computer keyboard. The only problem that this program takes up most of the memory and even if I got the computer which has a whopping heap of unused memory, Mavis Beacons gobbles it eventually as if it is hungry for more. sleepy hollow - scary stuff
There are a lot of reasons why I don't like this product but here are the main ones in no specific order: (1) It lacks focus: I do not understand their teaching strategy (speed or accuracy) (2) I found the content quite depressing: the material Franklin's diaries and excerpts from "Sleeep Hollow" don't help with the already difficult task of learning to type (3) It's not as 'smart' as it should be. (4) It kept pushing me to learn new keys when I was quite happy to continue developing my level of skill & comfort with what it had already shown me. (4) It kept praising me when it was quite obvious to me that I was not making any progress whatsoever.

The program only worked one time.Seems there is a problem if you have Windows XP home.Seller referred me to manufacturer for solution.Not solved yet...

This Program Is Addictive
I love this program, and have logged over (can you believe it) 14 hours of total lesson typing time so far (think about it, that is huge).I will probably double that before I stop using it.I am now typing between 22 words a minute for really hard lessons (lots of punctuation and numbers) to close to 40 for easy words and sentences.I am thrilled.I am nearly 40 years old, and to finally be able to type is really a dream come true. The Lion King Classic Collection
I recently bought a copy of this collection and noticed that the box said The Lion King II Gamebreak at the bottom but, It was only the Timon and Pumbaa's Jungle game included, I was a little dissapointed but, oh well. The three games were pretty fun, especially the Timon and Pumbaa's Jungle Games. It relieved a little stress after a long day; maybe it was the music? I thought the The Lion King II Active play was a little childish but I still liked the activities as it was a little bit challenging, not really but, kind of. I would say the most educating game of the trio was th Adventures in typing with Timon and Pumbaa, as it also taught proper typing postures and other miscellaneous but, important skills (I think I need brush up on my typing skills). I think this collection is great for the whole family because the different games are for different age levels and it also was fun for me, so...
