3-0 out of 5 stars Nice results but lousy user experience
I'm always reluctant to upgrade any Adobe products and the upgrades from Elements 2 to 3 to 4 have been no different.I upgraded to 4 simply because 3 would not run when we switched to Tiger on our Quicksilver.3 would run fine on two Powerbooks with the same flavor of Tiger, but not on the Quicksilver (???).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
It takes a little time and effort to learn but is well worth it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Slow and clumsy
I bought the elements ready to take on my photo library and have fun editing.Unfortunately, after photoshop successfully and easily organized my photos, the rest was downhill. If you're in the market for a photo organizer, this is a great product, but if you want to edit photos in ANY way, don't get your hopes up.It is exhaustingly clumsy! It's editing functions are not user friendly, are slow, and it even freezes regularly while editing.I give this 2 stars for it's organizing capabilities and 0 stars for it's editing capabilities.I'll probably try a few other products or keep this one for organizing and use another for editing until someone gets it right. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Noticeable Difference
The Spyder2 Express was easy to install, easy to operate, and did what it claims to do. I just got a ViewSonic VX922 LCD and the display looked great. After running the Spyder2 Express, it was the difference between night and day. Everything went from great to awesome! Everything, including games looked so much better. I am very happy that I invested in the Spyder2 Express. I recommend the same for you! You will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spot On!
My Dell 1905FP is an excellent LCD monitor. The default ICM profile made it appear a bit too bright and/or harsh but the color was fine. After calibrating it with this it looks MUCH better.Colors appear natural and in the correct balance.I now make prints that are very close to matching what I see on the monitor whereas before it was pretty much a trial and error process.Highly recommended for digital photographers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy as can be
Just load the software and plug it in. Follow the instruction on screen and that's it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for photo editing!
I knew my laptop colors were off, and could not calibrate properly by eye w/ OSX's color calibration utility. So i ordered this little gem. Now what I seeon my camera matches my laptop and my workstation. I was even surprised how off my workstation was, since it looked "correct" before the calibration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I used my Huey to generate calibration profiles on 4 different monitors (all LCD). On every one it worked beautifully, giving me neutral grays and good contrast and brightness. The ambient light adjustment is a really nice addition, and it will automatically dim the screen as the room gets dimmer to maintain apparent contrast levels. The software is so easy to use, I never even touched the manual. A great price on a great product.

4-0 out of 5 stars I don't own a Huey, but...
I do own the Gretag/Pantone LT-1, and I did own the SpyderPro, and I have played with a Huey.A monitor calibrator is going to change the colors you see on the monitor; that's its job, because the reason you have trouble getting prints that look like the monitor, is because the monitor isn't set right! It takes a couple of hours to get used to the different colors -- and you've a lifetime of getting correct prints on the first try once you get the printer profiled too.The first thing a well-calibrated monitor teaches you is just how poor your own color memory is and how bad Adobe Gamma and other "eyeball-based" calibration techniques are.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for Microsoft Word, for most purposes
I was stunned when I started using Pages v2... because I'd been convinced that Apple would never get a word processor right. AppleWorks pretty much sucked (tedious interface, limited capabilities, never fully updated for Mac OS X). TextEdit is nothing more than a rough draft of an application.

5-0 out of 5 stars TheHiddenGemOfDesign
I've been a Corel user since ver 5 or so. It's always been a decent graphics application, but Ver 12 and now 3X are the best I've ever seen. This program is SO INTUITIVE compared to others in this category. It;s particularly easier than Quarkxpress. I know Quark's a page layout app, but you can do the exact same stuff 95% of the time in Corel. Much better PDF's and a HUGE price advantage make this their best version yet. Indesign is also very good but pure useability gives Corel an edge.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of all vector based programs
I think some of the reviewers here did not use the program more enough, am using it since version 2 till now as an illustrator this program can't be beated... gradient fill was so stupid to create in earlier versions of adobe illustrator u must create two objects then blend them together to form a gradient fill then you have to mask it within a path or the shape you are filling, one more thing the mask in corel "container" is a wonderful tool to have much better than the mask used in illustrator that sucks (u have to see me pulling out my hear if i made i mistake using it) do you want more i have a lot to mention.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Graphics Program Out There!
As an artist for a t-shirt screen printer, I have used CorelDRAW since version 2, so know it quite well and this latest version is by far the most impressive update yet.Corel's tracing program was always superior to other vendors, but the new built-in version in DRAW is even better and easier to use.Has saved me hours of re-creating time already. Writing scripts for film, television, and theater is usually a time-consuming task. There are many elements in a script (i.e. scene headings, character names, dialogue, scene breaks, etc.) that must be correctly placed in your script. Following these conventions is essential in making sure your script is receiving proper attention from agents, producers, and contest judges. Screenwriter works by your side, automatically formatting action, character name, dialogue, and other elements as you write your script. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for what I Need
This all started when I began writing a screenplay on spec. I setup my Word program with as much of the Hollywood standard format as I could, but I started having problems with certain elements (e.g., parentheticals within dialog, CONT'd's at the end of pages). So I picked MMS because it seemed to be the most powerful at the lowest cost. I also liked that it had play and novel formats. It did a decent and fairly painless job of importing my screenplay from Word. Unfortunately, it turned many of my shot headings into character elements for dialog. I had to manually fix all these, but MMS made changing the type of element fairly easy.
4-0 out of 5 stars best of its kind, not as popular as it deserves to be.
I'll keep this short because I'm supposed to be writing!I used to use Final Draft for all my TV work (Wire In The Blood, Hornblower).I even recommended it to the BBC when they still used Word for screenplays. Then a friend and producer showed me Screenwriter and I have never looked back. It's far more intuitive than FD in so many ways, it makes it easier to just concentrate on the text. And technically Screenwriter is far more solid - I have never used a version of Final Draft that didn't have numerous really irritating bugs, which tech support could never seem to resolve despite endless patches.I haven't patched Screenwriter for years quite simply because I don't need to - it just works.I'm sorry I ever backed FD now, but it's almost the standard program in the UK.I often write my stuff in Screenwriter and import it into FD for submission.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best out there....
Of all the screenwriting / scriptwriting software out there today, this is by far the best one. Everything you need to get started is there and it's very user friendly. I had never used it before but was able to start writing within minutes of opening the box. I also recommend david Trottier's book The Screenwriter's Bible, as a companion for the software. I have found both to be invaluable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars much faster & easier than other programs
wow, this really made a difference in my ability to create professional-looking comics. i have a graphics tablet and the drawing feel isreally good. i think my favorite feature is the tool for making Panels. Plus the tool for doing special effects lines, which is pretty sweet.
4-0 out of 5 stars pretty decent product.
I purchased the mangadebut because i wanted to dabble in tones and inking (which I usually never do, usually I just scan in the sketch and then darken it with a photo editing.) I came to find out that using lines and erasing the sketch makes for a much more clean finished product. Of course, you could acomplish this with MS Paint if you really wanted to.

1-0 out of 5 stars COREL HAS THE WORST SUPPORT!
Great program, support is Crap! Some are lucky and it is a fun program but if you have any issues with your system or program you're on you own! Corel support is a black hole no matter what you put in nothing comes out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Potential, Serious Issues and Lousy Support
I did like this program. There are shorcomings. The selection tools are nowhere near as good as what Adobe supplies but it offers some options that Photoshop doesn't have that are really useful for one who combines natural drawings with the digital medium.
4-0 out of 5 stars Unique app that is creatively inspiring, though perfornance issues remain
Painter occupies a very particular niche in the world of digital imaging software. Though the latest versions of Photoshop sport an excellent brush tool and ample brush controls, there is nothing to match the power and possibilities of Painter's brush creator. And Painter is truly unique in its emulation of natural media, ranging from thick impasto strokes to naturally drying watercolor, and oil paints that stay wet as long as you please. There is a mixer palette which works exactly like an actual one: new colors can be mixed on the fly as if mixing actual pigments rather than colored pixels. Of course, the digital environment also offers possibilities not available in the real world, and apart from the natural media Painter therefore offers a whole array of fantasy and pattern brushes, as well as distortion filters and blender. As all these can be adjusted and turned into new brushes according to taste, the possibilities are truly limitless. Layering options are numerous, and come with an array of blending methods more extensive than that in PS. Selection possibilities are excellent too, with highly accessible options for saving and reloading particular complex selections. There are some nice filters as well, including a particularly fine bevel tool that allows detailed control of complex bevels. There are, of course, many plug-ins available that can be added according to budget and taste, such as the KPT filters. Painter includes the usual vector pen and shape options, which are excellent for making precise selections or creating smooth shapes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sooo much better for novices than Illustrator 9
Nobody, and I mean NObody, could be more of an Illustrator novice & ignoramus than I. Several months ago I was given a licensed copy of Illustrator 9 that a departing coworker had used. Wanting a chance to design the departmental logo that otherwise would've gone to an agency, I raised my figurative hand and volunteered blindly for duty. Having taught myself everything from MS-DOS to TurboCAD, to Photoshop Elements, not to mention Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (don't get me started on that latter program, argh), I figured I could tackle at least the basics of Illustrator 9. Loaded it on my laptop, took it home for a weekend....and just about lost my sanity -- and several fingernails -- trying to learn that confounding program. I managed to produce a few logos, one of which was chosen. But egads, what a big, stinky bear Illustrator 9 was to wrestle.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beginners proceed with Caution!
Im computer literate and regularly use a number of varying programs from Visio to Logic Audio to MS Office. After picking up Illustrator however, Im frustrated by the lack of intuition and steep learning curve the software offers.Ive been told that the world revolves around 2 types of people: those who "get" vector graphic programs, and those who errrr...dont. Unfortunately, after 10 hours use and much manual reading, I fall into the later category. I dont plan to give up however and plan to enroll in a course. This decision was supported by friends proficient in its use - but who had difficulty demonstrating thecomplex concepts to me. (Indeed, defining the direction of a drawn curve was as intuitive as metaphsyics or nuclear science!)
5-0 out of 5 stars Adobe's new Illustrator CS2 version is faster and feature-packed
If you're one of those people like me, who hang on to an older version of the application waiting for the right time, now is the time to upgrade. You won't be disappointed.Just ask the editors of both PC Magazine and C|Net which awarded this version their Editor's Choice Award.

3-0 out of 5 stars Spyder2 Suite (including PrintFIXPLUS)
Sypder2, the monitor calibration product, is excellent. My monitor never looked this good! Documentation is a bit terse, however. Additionally, you have to know how to do a few things such as (1) disable a program from starting when you boot up and (2) manually adjust your monitor for brightness, contrast, and color temperature and reset it to the factory defaults. Of these, the most important is probably knowing how to disable Adobe Gamma on startup (if enabled), and this is not explained adequately. Some patience and possibly a call to tech support may be required.

I've had no issues with the monitor calibration. Works great.

1-0 out of 5 stars very poor graphics suite
I have noticed favorable reviews here, with the reviewer asserting intimate knowledge and experience with this suite, its forerunners, or several other programs.I cannot address how someone with a decade of experience might react to this tangled mess, only how someone with slight familiarity with a paint program or similar might react.

I am very impressed with the improvements in CorelDraw 12. I couldn't be happier. I have always used CorelDraw for great black & white diagrams, but this version seems best of any. I was very impressed that I can ungroup, move around points and lines in the individual sections, and they will all remain selected while being moved, then go back to the original pick tool and regroup them again. So much easier! I'm still learning and finding improvements, but it looks cleaner and easier to use than ever before. If you can get your hands on a copy of this program, jump at the chance. The tendency to crash of version 11 is gone! It's going to be really fun.

Editorial Review

Adobe Illustrator CS2 is the latest (April 2005) release of Adobe Illustrator, the industry-standard vector graphics software. Illustrator CS2 gives designers new creative freedom so they can realize ideas quickly and powerfully. Users can instantly convert bitmaps to vector artwork with Live Trace, paint intuitively with Live Paint and save time with the new context-sensitive Control Palette and optimized workspaces. Plus, tight integration with other software, both within the new Adobe Creative Suite 2 and with other applications, lets designers produce extraordinary graphics for print, video, the Web, and mobile devices. Features

  • CD-ROM

  • Create custom workspaces with the palettes you need for a specific task - Save, share, or access any workspace at any time or use workspace templates
  • Expanded stroke options - choose a centered, inside, or outside stroke
  • Optimize mobile content creation by saving artwork in any SVG format, including SVG-t

3-0 out of 5 stars too slow to rate a 5 star
Illustrator CS2 is an application loaded with features, but it is too slow that after I execute a command I wait almost 30 seconds before anything happens. Oftentimes I click again because there is no hour glass or timeline to indicate it is doing anything and that usually ends in Illustrator not responding and hanging up. I'm use to Photoshop being so fast compared to Illustrator that I get impatient.

4-0 out of 5 stars Novice heaven (for an Adobe product)
Nobody, and I mean NObody, could be more of an Illustrator novice & ignoramus than I.Several months ago I was given a licensed copy of Illustrator 9 that a departing coworker had used.Wanting a chance to design the departmental logo that otherwise would've gone to an agency, I raised my figurative hand and volunteered for duty.Having taught myself everything from MS-DOS to TurboCAD, to Photoshop Elements, not to mention Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (don't get me started on that latter program, argh), I figured I could tackle at least the basics of Illustrator 9.Loaded it on my laptop, took it home for a weekend....and just about lost my sanity -- and several fingernails -- trying to learn that confounding program.I managed to produce a few logos, one of which was chosen. But egads, what a big, stinky bear Illustrator 9 was to wrestle.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with CS2 - stick with CS!
If I had $1 for every time a CS2 app crashed and made expend real hours to redo work, I'd have about $10. And that's enough for me to say, BEWARE of this set of applications! Adobe has allowed them to get too bloated, too slow, and the results are that all the programs (but principally GoLive, InDesign and Illustrator, in that order) are crashy and will quite suddenly, forcing you to expend the precious hours of your life redoing work you just finished. I cannot stress how disappointed I am in Adobe, and how distraught I am that we as a nation have allowed the only two competing companies to join, thus guaranteeing that there will be less quality and innovation in the future. In any event, do not buy the CS2 apps, Adobe does not deserve your support! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A move in the right direction
I'm a big fan of iWork and have always looked for new office apps that out-perform Microsoft's apps which have become so feature-rich that functionality has become akward.I love Pages and the formatting features it provides.I do more layout work than word processing so I'm real happy with the way Pages works for me.Keynote is nice too.I don't believe in lots of slide transitions and builds when making a presentation so a lot of the flash and panash that PowerPoint tries to interject is useless to me.You have lots of capability with Keynote but its clean, simple interface and robust formatting and import capabilities really works for me.
4-0 out of 5 stars iWork 06 is Powerful but Limited
Apple's iWork software presents two applications:Pages and Keynote which is Apple's answer to Microsoft's Publisher and Power Point. As someone who has used both, I can honestly say that iWork blows Publisher and Power Point clean out of the water.Keynote has some added features such as 3D graphs and the capaibility to add numbers in charts (like a very limited spread sheet) added in this version. You can make truly professional looking mind blowing presentations with Keynote that will make any presentation look like a multimedia jewel.Pages allows you to do desktop publishing and print media with the finesse and end results of professional looking print catalogs and brochures. Both applications are well designed and, just like all of the iLife apps, feature the classic Apple interface whereby all of your media content is available and intermeshed into the work flow.Thereis not really any new earth shattering features in 06 from the 05 version, but mainly just tweaks and enhancements.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but still not perfect
Well its definetly improved version since the last one, but they still have a lot of things to do.The biggest problem is Pages. If text has specific symbols, like Greek letters and u try to export your file to doc, forget it.u'll have the same problem as 10 yrs ago, either funky symbols or underline dashes.Keynote is much better. But if u r a scientist and not a sales man, both packages still have a lot of room for improvement. However, I'm still happy with this purchase, because it's Apple soft and looks much nicer than any MS software will get in the future. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars GoLive: a terrible, terrible product
I want to warn you about GoLive -- it is the most frustrating, least reliable, most crash-prone app I have used since switching to OS X. GoLive CS2 crashes regularly for me several times a day, and has even managed to crash WHILE SAVING A VERY IMPORTANT FILE, which wiped out an entire day's work for me, causing me to redo it all. Bottom line, Adobe does not deserve your money for this application, which they clearly dislike within the company (when you make a bug report, it's interesting to note that it's called GoLive, not Adobe GoLive). Sadly, the only thing to do is go to Dreamweaver...but that's not an option for me since its interface is not something I'm willing to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crashing?Nonsense!
With all due respect to the guy from Japan, I use CS2 about 30 hours a week.I've had InDesign crash twice and both times it recovered my work flawlessly up to the minute of the crash. While I'll agree that the suite is getting a little bulky for older machines, my year-old machine has absolutely no problems running Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Photoshop simultaneously.
