4-0 out of 5 stars Great if you want to train Pitch Accuracy!
I am an above average singer and want to take the next step to becoming a professional and found that my pitch accuracy needed some help. Problem is that I can't always hear when I'm off pitch and have to depend on my husband to tell me - which is a pain when you're a singer. I got this program for that purpose which is to train this very important part of singing. I would definitely recommend this program if you are a beginning singer - it will help with understanding the basics and pitch accuracy. If you are an intermediate singer or expert singer this can still help you - not in improving your vocal flexibility, range or tone (I recommend Brett Manning's Singing Success CD set for that), but if you want to improve pitch accuracy.I must say in the week that I've had this, I think I've improved. Yes it is a cheesy program - with lots of cheesy animated characters but it is easy to skip this stuff if it annoys you as it does me. I just wish that we could have more interesting songs on the program - the songs that already come with the program are songs like Amazing Grace and Danny Boy - which are good but get a little boring. This gives you 12 free downloads of better songs (i.e. pop etc.) but I do wish it was 20 or something like that. Would be nice if Carry a Tune had a bigger selection of songs - like I couldn't find a single Jewel song! That's my only real gripe. I'm pretty happy with it overall...

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
I was expecting much more than what I got. There are 25 songs but they're all juvenile songs. You can download some but I guess I just expected more help with pitch than what this provides. For the money, it's not worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome software
I picked this product up recently and I have to say it is even better than advertised. It gies you everything it says it does and more and works great. The fact that I can see my voice on the screen is amazing and in real time no less.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for learning to play simple songs
I am an adult trying to learn Piano. This program is great for learning simple songs and does have a very good feedback system.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good instruction software, but has some minor bugs and doesn't fully replace a live teacher
I got this on request as a Christmas gift last year, along with an M-Audio KeyStation 61es keyboard. The combination of the two works really nicely on my PowerMac. I didn't really start going through the lessons until about a week ago due to shoulder surgery I had at the beginning of the year, but so far so good.
4-0 out of 5 stars An affordable option for Mac OSX
I received my eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method today and it's not a bad program by any means, however I have two gripes with the software:

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good deal
I bought this based on the Amazon reviews.I am extremely new at this but the software is pretty good. The teacher is somewhat annoying and as another reviewer said, he sings over his playing way too much.I wish there was a way to turn him WAY down and the guitar up.It touts having over 160 lessons, but that is somewhat misleading.I don't doubt it has over 160 pages, but I covered 23 "lessons" in about an hour.I do like the fact that the first few lessons he teaches you very easy versions of the chords so you don't feel hung up on doing the full chords when your fingers don'twant to move to strange new positions they aren't used to.I am using this as well as Fender's DVD for acoustic with Keith Wyatt. The DVD is a little more challenging for me, but Keith Wyatt is much better than the guy from the eMedia software (and he doesn't feel the need to sing!!!).Overall, I would recommend this software.

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to the Band!
Great deal, great price, great product. Emedia Guitar method is by far one of the greatest computer learn to play programs out there. My order netted me a brand new, factory fresh product, securely and quickly shipped. Thanks, again!

4-0 out of 5 stars Get Started Playing Fast
Well presented, easy to follow along, and easy to revisit previous lessons.Videos and illustrated fretboard really help see and hear how the song should be played. Not a lot of depth in the material but probably about the right level to maintain the attention of most students. Some of the accompanyment/singing could be better but overall does a good job presenting the music so the student can practice along. Some of the material/songs may not be to everyones liking, but again, these are okay for the beginner. The singing can be a slight destraction sometimes. I probably wouldn't recommend this to be the only source of learning guitar....and I don't think most people buying it would think it's all the will every need to become a great guitar player.I'm sure a teacher would still be very advantageous especially when it comes to pointing out bad habits that may creep into the new students technique. I'm trying to learn without a teacher as well and have found other music books very useful.

Editorial Review

With its latest package, eMedia goes beyond the drills and tutorials of its earlier eMedia Guitar Method, instead targeting players who already have a familiarity with their instrument. Song-based and fully interactive, eMedia Intermediate Guitar Method covers a lot of ground in its single CD and thus just skims the surface of some topics. It also seems a bit lackluster when compared to Voyetra's exciting, rock and roll-inspired Teach Me Guitar Deluxe. Nevertheless, the program offers a barrage of mid-level and advanced chording, soloing, and picking techniques that should assist any student who seeks to become a more knowledgeable and skillful guitarist.Read more

  • CD-ROM
  • Over 175 Step-by-Step Lessons: Youâll learn to play solos like the ones Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix made famous, using newly acquired skills such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends, vibrato and slides

  • Intervals, scales and the basics of improvisation are also covered in this comprehensive volume

5-0 out of 5 stars you will be able to play some great stuff
eMedia intermediate guitar method is an excellent system to expand on your beginner skills. I have now been playing guitar for four months and have gotten better than some of my friends that have been playing for over a year. I finished the CD so I am lending it out now to these same friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome way to learn more advanced guitaring
After completing the first volume, I was nothing but impressed with the emedia material.I'd conquered campfire chords! Now is where the cool stuff starts, Volume 2, and it too is excellent. The great thing about Emedia's approach is how it breaks down the teaching of a new technique. After explaining and demoing the technique a short, usually interesting (but not always), song is presented that exactly covers that technique being taught. It avoids the pitfall of other guitar teaching material, which is use some ultra-mind-numbing, hardly melodic bit to practice the execution of the technique. The well paced introduction and progression of technique building really suits me well.My only concern is that I'm potentially developing bad habits, this is where a good teacher is a must. The chord and scale directories are great, but it would've been nice if the scale directory took better advantage of the guitar's range.I find I use the metronome quite often too.Good stuff!

4-0 out of 5 stars Teacher-in-a-box
I wasn't sure how this would work out, but at the price, the eMedia Guitar method offered a lot more than the books and CD's or DVD's in the local music store.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars My son loves it!!
I picked this up for my twelve year old son.He is a beginner and has been glued to his electric guitar and eMedia Rock Guitar Method for the last two weeks. The program is a great starter, just in case the kids don't stick with it. It's better than $45 bucks an hour once a week, for now, at least.
3-0 out of 5 stars It is ok
I found this product to just be ok.I wish for a e=media that i could use to slow down songs that I have not just what is on their program. All in all it is an ok program though.

3-0 out of 5 stars Powerful but Difficult to Learn
This application is capable of producing sheet music of publishable quality and playing it back, including named chords, but can be frustratingly difficult to learn. Little about it seems intuitive or works the way one would think: many of the operations require you to remember special keyboard-mouse combinations or perform unusual actions such as double-clicking and holding down the mouse button on the second click or selecting the same menu option twice. Unfortunately there is no searchable online help - only a PDF user manual with a table of contents and a 'How Do I' section. The manual does contain links to other sections but there is no index and no way to return to the table of contents easily. There is a searchable Windows help file included but it does not appear to contain much information. Having said that, once you have learned the basics and familiarized yourself with its many quirks, the program is quite powerful. It also allows you to create templates for particular instrument configurations and start from a template when beginning a new piece. I have not tried the scanning, MIDI or microphone-entry features. You should know that you must register the software with the vendor online or by phone within 30 days of installing it, and that the registration process requires you to furnish personal information about yourself such as your name and email or mailing address. In addition, the numeric key which is returned to you at the time of registration works only on the computer on which you installed the software. According to the manual, if you change any of the hardware on your computer the software may no longer work and you will have to repeat the registration process.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the (much cheaper) competition.Avoid!
I saw this software in a Mac store and based upon the features listed on the box, I bought it. The limitations for this version of the software are extreme:you can't make your own chord diagrams, you can't score more than a few instruments and play it back (there's apparently a limit of MIDI channels allowed) - getting around both of these problems require the most expensive version of the product --- and the "upgrade" cost is $400! The manuals aren't particularly helpful, either.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine under Mac and Windows after Firmware Upgrade
This review is about the USB Midi connector that it comes with.At first it didn't work with my Yamama PSR-350 keyboard.Signals from the keyboard were not received by the computer. But I downloaded a firmware upgrade from the Turtle Beach website, and then everything worked fine.I haven't tried the software yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but was painful setup process
I wanted a usb midi cable, since my new machine doesn't have a game port and I had been using a gameport midi cable to connect my sythesizer to my computer. This piano kit seemed to fit the bill. And, I liked that for about the cost of a cable I get the piano instruction software for my son basically included.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great software
I'm in my 40's and was able to pick up my father's 30 year old electric bass and learn how to play very quickly. I've been using the program about 3 months and try to play 1/2 to 1 hour every day. Besides learning the songs included in the program I have been able to play Cream songs Badge and Sunshine of Your Love by teaching myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars No more beginner's books! ** WORKS WITH THE MAC! **
Forget beginner's books! Save your money and buy this program, the ability to play along with the computer while you watch the notes/chord progression alone is something that no book/ audio cd will ever match. The way the lessons are presented is excellent, giving visual types like me direct re-enforcement on what the lesson is all about by giving you follow-along examples, and most importantly encouraging you to improvise and experiment. I've been learning the bass on and off for a couple of years and while I can already play along with many songs and improvise a bit I have found even the most basic lessons in this program to be very useful. I'm really looking forward to the sight reading section of the course! Highly recommended! If #2 is ever issued I'll buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a CD-ROM for bass!
My friend really liked eMedia's guitar CD-ROM, so I got their Bass Method the second I saw it at Circuit City. The lessons were easy to follow and the videos had demonstrations for both the left and right hands. The coolest feature has to be the ability to remove the bass and jam with the band in great songs like Knockin' on Heaven's Door. I'm almost good enough to jam with my friend. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars What!?! You actually want this thing to work?
My husband, who is not a techie, purchased this item.He installed it himself and then learned he needed a keyboard (which he had) and a MIDI cord (which he didn't).He wanted it to work NOW, so I purchased a MIDI cord from a local vendor, and reinstalled everything.Yes, I am something of a techie and an accomplished pianist. The minimal installation instructionstalked about a joystick and a serial connection. Our MIDI connector cord is USB and doesn't have a port for a joystick.Further, our new laptop doesn't even have serial port and I can't determine the purpose of the joystick.
2-0 out of 5 stars lots of features, most of them are terrible.
Firstly, this software is NOT truly XP compatible. Yes, it does run on XP, but it is not native. My first install gave me a "16-bit subsystem" error. I haven't seen something like that in 6 years.
3-0 out of 5 stars Three of my kids used this!
All my children learned to play the piano using this software exclusively to learn piano. One ended up learning Moonlight Sonata well enough to wow the grandparents.

Also imports ASCII tab files of which there are thousands for free on the Internet. Scanning works but you must be careful to use clean printed originals. Aldo Kontakt is a nice set of guitar and pop music oriented sounds. Overall very good program - well designed and a good value. 5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable product!
As everyone else has already stated, this disc is absolutely amazing. Just getting the entire Solti Ring at this price makes it a bargain. But add in all the essays, the pointing out of the leitmotiffs, the libretto, the running commentary, and all the other features, and this is the kind of deal that you would be crazy to pass up. This disc is, probably, the best and most efficient way to learn everything you need to know about the Ring. Also, if you're worried about compatability, don't be. I have Windows XP, and the disc runs perfectly with no installation or technical hassles. Just put it in and start the experience. If you are at all interested in Wagner's Ring cycle, this disc is perfect!

5-0 out of 5 stars At a loss for words . . .
Fantastic, overwhelming. . . superb guide. Easy to use, fine reproduction of the music (the entire Ring all on one CD!), running commentary with hypertext notes on themes and characters, notes on the leitmotifs with sound bites, images, etc. -- can't say enough, really. Only suggestion would be to have additional navigation by "track" (as on a conventional CD, if possible) -- but this is a quibble.
5-0 out of 5 stars A graduate level course on Wagner's "Ring"
When I was a graduate student in college, I took a two-semester course on the operas of Richard Wagner: the first semester was on his "other" operas and the second was on "Der Ring des Nibelungen".The second semester was spent in Germany, where we attended a performance of the complete "Ring" at Bayreuth (glorious!). Finding a copy of this Ring Disc ... was a real treasure (I must have bought the last one available, unfortunately, as it now available only as a used CD).This program really allows me to dig into the Ring once again, after so many years. It's a shame that the audio quality isn't any better, but 14.5 hours on one CDR is still remarkable. I recently purchased the new DVD set of the Ring, with Pierre Boulez (That's another review entirely!), and find the Ring Disc a helpful supplement. It is a shame that it seems to POP, but at the original ... list price, no wonder.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Sibelius 2 more convienient
I have not tried Sibelius 3, but comparing Sib 4 to Sib 2, I'll take 2 because of one main feature: The new playback line feature in Sib 4. I HATE THIS FEATURE!!!!!!! In Sib 2, you simply click on the note that you want it to start playing from and press play, and it starts playing from that point, and if nothing is selected, it starts playing from the top. Totally logical. But in Sib 4, there's this stupid line that starts at the top when you press play, and when you press stop, the line stops and stays there, and when you start playing again, it just picks up where it left off. Stupid? YES!!! And there's no simple way to move the line to where you want it to start, say in the middle of the score. The only way to move the line is by using the Fast Forward/Rewind buttons, or the timeline slider, or using an option from a menu, or using a three-key shortcut. Either way, it is a BIG WASTE OF TIME!! When I'm composing a passage and I want to listen to it over and over again, it is so easy in Sib 2 to just click on the note your want to start on and it just plays from that point, and not deal with all this stupid playback line CRAP. SO INCONVIENIENT!!!!!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Sibelius and Finale
I'm a long-term registered Sibelius user. Sibelius upgrades come fast and furious and this is a part of Sibelius business model. I buy every other upgrade. I suspect they simplyhoard some features and space them out from one version to the next. Having said that, Sibelius is still the best notation software on the market. I've used everything from much-lamented Encore (RIP) to Finale. Finale has a WAY steeper learning curve than Sibelius. Finale has more tools and bells, but Sibelius is considerably more intuitive and easier to use. For avant-garde scores Sibelius is less time consuming, even with graphic and aleatoric scores. Caveat 1: Ignore all Sibelius additional options, most are useless. Caveat 2: Educational version will only allow one computer install. To move the software from one computer to another you need to call and get an authorization. To run it on two computers ( say, my desktop and laptop), you have to pay extra. This is the worst part of the Sibelius soft. Otherwise it's out-of-the-box useful.

I was able to purchase this NEW copy of Sibelius 4 for a fraction of the price I would've paid to the actual company. As a college student, a good deal is always so helpful! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Be forewarned
Despite what this site AND the companies own website say, this product is NOT compatible with Windows XP.Their tech support guy is nice, but helpless with an issue that is insoluble.Their customer service just said, "sorry, return it to Amazon and maybe try another one of our titles."No offer to exchange for a working title, as they were worried about throwing off inventory.

4-0 out of 5 stars This one's a winner. Check it out.
It was really cool how this CDROM was put together. Very user friendly & easy to install & run. You can hear the finished product, watch the guitar tabs to see how it is played with adjustable MIDI Music control to speed it up or slow it down. Mute the part you want to play & jam along with the band. Cool stuff! It also includes a brief history of the song & the artist, which is always interesting. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product!
This CDROM has it all. Music, TAB, play along with either the MIDI version of the song OR the audio version. The audio versions have track muting capability so you can mute the vocal or the Guitar or Bass. The nicest feature is the animated fret board so you if you don't know a chord or aren't that familiar with playing lead in the 7th position: have no fear, this feature cuts right through all of that. This CDROM is formatted for Windows AND Mac: which makes ordering easier too! ... Read more
