1-0 out of 5 stars Just plain awful
This software is simply unusable. The routes generated on the PDA bear no relationship to reality, the verbal instructions to turn occur as you are passing the turn, not before, and the tech support just ignores you. Avoid at all costs.

2-0 out of 5 stars Price is the only draw to this package
If price is the key to your buying decision, then this is the package for you.If ease of use and reliability are more your bag, keep looking. This review is based on the PALM version of the software.
1-0 out of 5 stars PDA software can't even find street addresses!
First, I'm a computer geek and should otherwise know what I'm doing with software. I have purchased several DeLorme products before, including Topo USA twice (great software!) and the non-handheld version of Street Atlas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great vocabulary builder.
Before You Know It uses the flashcard method of teaching vocabulary four ways. Words and phrases are divided into lists by category. User selects a list then goes to the activity of choice to learn the contents of that list. There are a few more activities available in the Deluxe version that the free trial version doesn't have, but both versions use virtual flashcards the following way:
3-0 out of 5 stars Good concept. Poor implementation. Horrible customer support
Well first of all when I got this software I absolutely loved it. Spent few days and it really worked (I learned few hundreds words or so). Nice user inteface. Very simple (sometimes to simple, it could benefit from few advanced options). But none the less I liked it. When I started to advance and type words faster I discovered few problems like: program will hung if you type to fast (or if you turn cards to fast), some minor (but very annoying problems with editor). So I mailed couple feedbacks, request, etc. explaining the problem in details, asking whether fix/update is available and stuff. Hardly get any responce. They basically told me to reinstall it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Innovative and Very Intuitive
This product is absolutely amazing. It is an extremely useful educational tool for language learning and much more. The Before You Know It Multipack is designed for language learning, especially vocabulary, by basically using electronic flashcards. The Multipack version includes an enormous amount of content for Spanish, French, Italian and German languages and is a good place to start learning the languages or for studying/refreshing. Now this is great for language learning but in my opinion the best feature of this program is the ability to make your own electronic flashcards for anything and you can also share them with friends through email and on Palm Pilots. To me this is a must have for studying anything that you need to memorize. It is so useful and very helpful in these aspects. It also shows you the cards you have the most trouble learning more frequently than the ones that you do not have trouble remembering which in the end means that you will have a very effective studying method. This program is very user friendly, simple to use and has plethora of uses. I believe that even ifyou do not want the language aspects the program, it is still more than worth having just because of the ability to create your own cards. Ideal for students, teachers, and anything else that requires memorization. Have no doubts, Before You Know It definitely earns its 5-star rating. ... Read more

Street Maps & Vacation Planner turns any Palm (Palm OS 3.0 or later) or Pocket PC handheld into a personal navigation device. This handy program comes with a range of street-level, city, state, and U.S. maps, making vacation planning and road travel a snap. 1-0 out of 5 stars Okay Desktop, poor PDA
This product is okay when used as a reference tool on your desktop computer. However, to reiterate and reinforce other reviews it is misleading and a poor tool for your PDA.You are only allowed to save static maps to your PDA.Once the map is on your PDA you can not zoom or view street names, which makes the product highly useless on your portable device.I give the product one star only because it is usefull when used on the desktop computer.Since it's target audience seems to be the PDA user the company misrepresents the usefullness of the product on the PDA.I am very displeased.I highly recommend not purchasing this product if you intend to use it on you PDA as it is purely junk in that respect.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely worthless
This software would have been a marvel twenty-five years ago.I couldn't return my copy fast enough. The details that they say are downloadable from the web are not there.Rather than Streets Maps & Vacation Planner buy a good old fashioned paper map.It is far better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless -- maps static and at least 5 years old
Not only are the maps not interactive on the PDA, as other reviewers have pointed out, but I found the maps of the South Bay to be at least five years old.A major section of Highway 85 that was completed over five years ago is not shown on the map.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I agree, it is pathetic
I bought the software to calculate mileages between two points. I operate a trucking business and drive myself. I want to calculate the distance say, between Raleigh, NC and Philadelphia, PA. I have a 1 gig compact flash card I bought to store the map data on. It was hopeless to even think about loading the east coast onto the memory card. I sat there for an hour highlighting the entire east coast(selecting blocks). I had 21,000 blocks selected. The desktop worked all night trying to save this file. I never did get it to work. DeLorme acts like this software is so versatile. The object of using a Handheld computer for mapping is to store mapping info and perform useful functions in the field as they may arise. This software is for someone who would rather save a small map on a pda rather than use the paper one they have or print one and take it along. I am also returning this software. It is a joke and a real dissapointment. I have a few other quotes but they would be inappropriate to post here. I hate to even rate it with one star. -5 stars would be more like it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Crashes when you try to make a route!Worthless!
I have the 2005 version. It is worthless. It will not allow you to route from current GPS position to a point.And...when you try to map a shortest or quickest route, the system freezes after up to 5 minutes of "thinking" the computation. The software is only effective at routing for very short routes.Anything I tried over 10 miles would take at least 5 minutes to compute. And I'm using a newer HP Ipaq with plenty of memory. This software stinks. If you buy a GPS go with some other software.

1-0 out of 5 stars pitiful
I used to like DeLorme's products.THis one is poor at best as far as being functional.GPS takes forever to locate, map loading from desktop to PDA is not as easy as the interface would have you believe, and you cannot adjust zoom level manually.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't waste your money!
This is the worst mapping software I have ever used (and I have used most of those available). There is a position error of 200-500 feet everywhere but on major thoroughfares and DeLorme Tech support (???) can only say it's a problem with the map translations (???). I notice there is no 2007 version! I have found the same position errors in their laptop version. Microsoft Streets & Trips is dead-on in position everywhere... DeLorme should be totally embarassed since their only products are in this field! And they charge a lot more than Microsoft does... pathetic!

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
I liked the PC version, but the handheld version is expensive, hard to use and not that much value. When compared to MS Streets and Maps it is not even in the same league. The Bluetooth feature is problematic and the tech support is poor.In both versions there seems to be a bug that introduces a position error of about 200 feet. This seems to be problem for both the hand held and PC editions. If this keeps up I expect DeLorme to be out of business within 2 years.Too bad---It has the potential to be world class.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are computer literate at all you'll love it.
This program is awesome!!!You install the software on your PC and choose how much you want to sync to your PDA.You can sync detailed maps or just highways and interstates. My wife works at a flower shop and sometimes delivers.Type in the address and it will take you their.Read more

This was for Palm OS and the OS is compatible with both WIN and Mac.I am sure it is a good program, but there is no way to chose which parent platform to download for.I did not find out there were two different downloads until after I paid the money and try to install it and asking customer support.SO BE CAREFUL IF YOU OWN A MAC, THEY WILL ASSUME YOU OWN A WINDOWS MACHINE AND HAVE YOU DOWNLOAD ITS SOFTWARE!!

1-0 out of 5 stars hook, line and sinker?
How can the Handmark (formerly Palmspring) company sell this as full retail product specifically labelled on the outside as NOT shareware, and nothing printed inside says otherwise, but after installation it says it is a limited use DEMO which you have to pay more to unlock? If this is not bait and switch, then is it not fraud? Why isn't there any review online warning other new victims/buyers?I must not be the only one who has experienced this, as Handmark NOW has an "instructions" web page (after the fact again) that says its newest "Gulliver" version ships Demo!

3-0 out of 5 stars Limited Functionality Disappointing
Ok.So I don't know too much about wine, but I was hoping that this little piece of software might help me.And I have to say that is does have basic information, but there are some glaring things that could have been done to make this program a whole lot better.First, I have the 2004 version, and the white wines I've been buying are mostly 2002 vintage, but the database is VERY limited on 2002 information.Secondly, the software has a personal "cellar" where you can keep your own information, and a wine database of all wines, but it didn't occur to the programmers that it might be useful to connect these two databases to each other. This means that if you want to add wines to your cellar, you have to manually enter all the information, instead of just selecting the wine from their database. It also means if you want to see what the rating is for one of your wines, you have to search for it separately in the other database.Third, the search capability has bugs.Search for a Riesling and it doesn't return all of them. Finally, the "Classic Wine Pairings" is very limited.Doesn't even listed Chardonnay.(Or maybe Chardonnay goes with everything???)In short, this piece of software underperforms for the price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great.
Although it lists many wines, it also is missing many common wines. You must have more memory than a PalmIII to install the program on your palm, and if you are using a AAA powered Palm, it drains them during hotsync. My favorite feature is the listinf of vintages and which years are good to drink.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must! (if you love wines and own a Palm)
I hardly give a product 5 stars. This case, it surely deserves it. I mean, come on, do you remember the wine ratings for each region by year? What about peak ratings? Haven't you ever drank a wine and found out later it was two years away from peak maturity?Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Bugs!Topic Entertain publishes this CD
The company Topic does a lousy job at customer service. As for the developer, maybe some third rate company. The scans of the maps are not high enough for area blow ups.Everything is fuzzy at best. The interface is clumsy ... sluggish ... backwards! This is the 21st Cen!If you have a Garmin, stick with their apps for now.Or just buy an old fashion topo map.
4-0 out of 5 stars Works much better than the alternatives
I've used versions of topo mapping software from Topo!, Garmin, DeLorme and National Geographic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why aren't there cards made for Zire palms?
I want and need cards for my Zire 21 palm. I need a Dictionary/Thesaurus card and one of these translator cards. Anyone who knows where I can find 1 please tell me by e-mailing at americanidol111@yahoo.com

3-0 out of 5 stars German is a little lacking
I bought this card primarily for German, but was disappointed to find out that the German words are not listed with their gender. All German words have a gender (masculine, feminine and neuter) and you need to know the gender in order to use the proper article. In German the article is pretty important for effective communication.Other than that, the quantity of words and useful phrases is pretty good.I also like the functionality and navigability of the software.

1-0 out of 5 stars Next to useless
When I bought it, I was thinking of a pocket PC version of the great Rand McNally road atlas.Wrong! It is next to worthless for me -- except in calculating distances between towns.Search for any town outside a major metro area and it will likely "show up" without a label -- maybe just two lines on a virtually blank screen.Even if you do get a town label, it is not likely to stay on during the zoom process. When you zoom out, you are likely to lose track entirely of the town's location. If you zoom out on Michigan until the entire state is visible, the only cities labeled are Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, and some place called Washington Island?!And the cities are not marked. The Milwaukee label stretches across Lake Michigan; so for those not geographically astute, you have to guess which side of the Big Lake it lies on
1-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
Absolutely user unfriendly, overpriced, and useless. That's all I could say about this product. If you try it, you will see exactly what I mean.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but still useful
The atlas isn't great for navigation, as it can't do point-to-point directions. It can get you from one city to another, however, and is also useful for calculating the distance between two cities. What makes this product worth owning is that with a simple touch on the screen, you can see what awaits you at the next exit - gas stations, restaurants, hotels, notable sites, etc...
