5-0 out of 5 stars Final Draft 7 does the job.
When I wrote my incredible screenplay on Final Draft 7 I was amazed. My first screenplay was done on Word and took forever to format. The only problem is that my screenplay sits and waits for representation--it's an awe-inspiring story and I can be reached at wlux22 at aol dot com.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Beginner's Thoughts.
Even though I have done a lot of writing in my life, I had never written a complete screenplay.I've had lots of ideas, but had never written them down.I finally decided to get some of these ideas out on paper.I knew from talking with friends who already work in the industry that script readers are very particular when it comes to the format of a screenplay and that one formatting error can cause someone to throw away an otherwise wonderful script.I considered other screenwriting software, but after speaking with my industry insider friends and doing other research I felt that FINAL DRAFT was the best software to get.I've been using FINAL DRAFT 7 for awhile now and have not had any problems with it.For writing screenplays, I love this software.I have not had any trouble with the software not loading and I've not lost anything I've ever written (though I tend to save a lot of my work frequently anyway).I've read most of the other reviews about FINAL DRAFT 7 on Amazon and it seems that people either really like the software or they hate it.I fall into the former category and have found it quite useful. For a beginning screenwriter, it works wonderfully. The only downside I have with the software is that it is quite expensive. As an educator, I was able to get a discount. FINAL DRAFT offers a discount for students, educators, and military personnel, but if you're not able to get that discount then the software is about double the cost that it should be.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a transformation!
Reformatted previously written scripts. The script was transformed to a professional looking one.I was going to rate this a 5 but reformatting is a slow process but well worth it!I have still a lot to learn! Loved it immediately. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for learning to play simple songs
I am an adult trying to learn Piano. This program is great for learning simple songs and does have a very good feedback system.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good instruction software, but has some minor bugs and doesn't fully replace a live teacher
I got this on request as a Christmas gift last year, along with an M-Audio KeyStation 61es keyboard. The combination of the two works really nicely on my PowerMac. I didn't really start going through the lessons until about a week ago due to shoulder surgery I had at the beginning of the year, but so far so good.
4-0 out of 5 stars An affordable option for Mac OSX
I received my eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method today and it's not a bad program by any means, however I have two gripes with the software:

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good deal
I bought this based on the Amazon reviews.I am extremely new at this but the software is pretty good. The teacher is somewhat annoying and as another reviewer said, he sings over his playing way too much.I wish there was a way to turn him WAY down and the guitar up.It touts having over 160 lessons, but that is somewhat misleading.I don't doubt it has over 160 pages, but I covered 23 "lessons" in about an hour.I do like the fact that the first few lessons he teaches you very easy versions of the chords so you don't feel hung up on doing the full chords when your fingers don'twant to move to strange new positions they aren't used to.I am using this as well as Fender's DVD for acoustic with Keith Wyatt. The DVD is a little more challenging for me, but Keith Wyatt is much better than the guy from the eMedia software (and he doesn't feel the need to sing!!!).Overall, I would recommend this software.

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to the Band!
Great deal, great price, great product. Emedia Guitar method is by far one of the greatest computer learn to play programs out there. My order netted me a brand new, factory fresh product, securely and quickly shipped. Thanks, again!

4-0 out of 5 stars Get Started Playing Fast
Well presented, easy to follow along, and easy to revisit previous lessons.Videos and illustrated fretboard really help see and hear how the song should be played. Not a lot of depth in the material but probably about the right level to maintain the attention of most students. Some of the accompanyment/singing could be better but overall does a good job presenting the music so the student can practice along. Some of the material/songs may not be to everyones liking, but again, these are okay for the beginner. The singing can be a slight destraction sometimes. I probably wouldn't recommend this to be the only source of learning guitar....and I don't think most people buying it would think it's all the will every need to become a great guitar player.I'm sure a teacher would still be very advantageous especially when it comes to pointing out bad habits that may creep into the new students technique. I'm trying to learn without a teacher as well and have found other music books very useful.

Editorial Review

Writing scripts for film, television, and theater is usually a time-consuming task. There are many elements in a script (i.e. scene headings, character names, dialogue, scene breaks, etc.) that must be correctly placed in your script. Following these conventions is essential in making sure your script is receiving proper attention from agents, producers, and contest judges. Screenwriter works by your side, automatically formatting action, character name, dialogue, and other elements as you write your script. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for what I Need
This all started when I began writing a screenplay on spec. I setup my Word program with as much of the Hollywood standard format as I could, but I started having problems with certain elements (e.g., parentheticals within dialog, CONT'd's at the end of pages). So I picked MMS because it seemed to be the most powerful at the lowest cost. I also liked that it had play and novel formats. It did a decent and fairly painless job of importing my screenplay from Word. Unfortunately, it turned many of my shot headings into character elements for dialog. I had to manually fix all these, but MMS made changing the type of element fairly easy.
4-0 out of 5 stars best of its kind, not as popular as it deserves to be.
I'll keep this short because I'm supposed to be writing!I used to use Final Draft for all my TV work (Wire In The Blood, Hornblower).I even recommended it to the BBC when they still used Word for screenplays. Then a friend and producer showed me Screenwriter and I have never looked back. It's far more intuitive than FD in so many ways, it makes it easier to just concentrate on the text. And technically Screenwriter is far more solid - I have never used a version of Final Draft that didn't have numerous really irritating bugs, which tech support could never seem to resolve despite endless patches.I haven't patched Screenwriter for years quite simply because I don't need to - it just works.I'm sorry I ever backed FD now, but it's almost the standard program in the UK.I often write my stuff in Screenwriter and import it into FD for submission.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best out there....
Of all the screenwriting / scriptwriting software out there today, this is by far the best one. Everything you need to get started is there and it's very user friendly. I had never used it before but was able to start writing within minutes of opening the box. I also recommend david Trottier's book The Screenwriter's Bible, as a companion for the software. I have found both to be invaluable. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With its latest package, eMedia goes beyond the drills and tutorials of its earlier eMedia Guitar Method, instead targeting players who already have a familiarity with their instrument. Song-based and fully interactive, eMedia Intermediate Guitar Method covers a lot of ground in its single CD and thus just skims the surface of some topics. It also seems a bit lackluster when compared to Voyetra's exciting, rock and roll-inspired Teach Me Guitar Deluxe. Nevertheless, the program offers a barrage of mid-level and advanced chording, soloing, and picking techniques that should assist any student who seeks to become a more knowledgeable and skillful guitarist.Read more

  • Barre chords and different strumming styles are covered in the rhythm chapters, and thereâs a fingerstyle chapter as well
  • Intervals, scales and the basics of improvisation are also covered in this comprehensive volume

5-0 out of 5 stars you will be able to play some great stuff
eMedia intermediate guitar method is an excellent system to expand on your beginner skills. I have now been playing guitar for four months and have gotten better than some of my friends that have been playing for over a year. I finished the CD so I am lending it out now to these same friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome way to learn more advanced guitaring
After completing the first volume, I was nothing but impressed with the emedia material.I'd conquered campfire chords! Now is where the cool stuff starts, Volume 2, and it too is excellent. The great thing about Emedia's approach is how it breaks down the teaching of a new technique. After explaining and demoing the technique a short, usually interesting (but not always), song is presented that exactly covers that technique being taught. It avoids the pitfall of other guitar teaching material, which is use some ultra-mind-numbing, hardly melodic bit to practice the execution of the technique. The well paced introduction and progression of technique building really suits me well.My only concern is that I'm potentially developing bad habits, this is where a good teacher is a must. The chord and scale directories are great, but it would've been nice if the scale directory took better advantage of the guitar's range.I find I use the metronome quite often too.Good stuff!

4-0 out of 5 stars Teacher-in-a-box
I wasn't sure how this would work out, but at the price, the eMedia Guitar method offered a lot more than the books and CD's or DVD's in the local music store.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great software
I'm in my 40's and was able to pick up my father's 30 year old electric bass and learn how to play very quickly. I've been using the program about 3 months and try to play 1/2 to 1 hour every day. Besides learning the songs included in the program I have been able to play Cream songs Badge and Sunshine of Your Love by teaching myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars No more beginner's books! ** WORKS WITH THE MAC! **
Forget beginner's books! Save your money and buy this program, the ability to play along with the computer while you watch the notes/chord progression alone is something that no book/ audio cd will ever match. The way the lessons are presented is excellent, giving visual types like me direct re-enforcement on what the lesson is all about by giving you follow-along examples, and most importantly encouraging you to improvise and experiment. I've been learning the bass on and off for a couple of years and while I can already play along with many songs and improvise a bit I have found even the most basic lessons in this program to be very useful. I'm really looking forward to the sight reading section of the course! Highly recommended! If #2 is ever issued I'll buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a CD-ROM for bass!
My friend really liked eMedia's guitar CD-ROM, so I got their Bass Method the second I saw it at Circuit City. The lessons were easy to follow and the videos had demonstrations for both the left and right hands. The coolest feature has to be the ability to remove the bass and jam with the band in great songs like Knockin' on Heaven's Door. I'm almost good enough to jam with my friend. ... Read more

This software has a very cumbersome user interface - it's hard to navigate, searches are cumbersome, and the window is small and can't be resized.I once stumbled across an entry about homemade mayonnaise, but have been unable to find it since, because it's so difficult to navigate.1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing!
There is simply no better way to learn these songs. You can isolate different sections of the music and loop them over and over (both the audio and the tab/notation). You can even slow it down. The animated fretboard is also very cool. It plays the notes in time with the music. It even bends the notes. I only wish they'd make more.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor user interface, technical problems
I spent about an hour getting this to work correctly. I am disappointed with the interface and the lack of lesson information. Not a bad product but there are better guitar programs for sure

4-0 out of 5 stars Great fun but not for beginners
This is a wonderful CDRom.The songs are mighty enjoyable, and eMedia lets you see exactly how the blues greats created the toe-tapping music that they did.But be warned:learning to play these songs using the eMedia system isn't for rank beginners.I'm a classical guitar player with over a decade of playing experience, and I had to slow the songs to less than half their speed to even have a fighting chance of keeping up.You're expected to already know some blues techniques and have some accessories (e.g. a glass slide).Eventually, I know I'll get the hang of these songs and have a great time. But it's gonna take practice, practice, practice. ...
5-0 out of 5 stars Nice but buggy in XP
First the problems: I began using this product under Windows XP home edition and found several bugs. The metronome and tuner would not work, and the menus had extraneous symbols.None of these were a killer, but a bit annoying. Then I switched to my old computer running Windows 98, and everything worked fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars virtual springfield - waste of money
I purchased Virtual Springfield for my sons. The computer disc came promptly, sooner than expected. The disc worked one day.Since the one time that the children used this disc, it has not worked.I have tried it on 2 PCs, 3 MACs (it is supposed to be read both by PCs and MACs).I have taken it to work and tried it on my computer at work.We have tried it on the original computer where it worked the first time. The disc no longer works. It is not damaged in any way that I can discern. When I called the technical support number, it rings to a private residence. The answering machine states that it is not the technical support desk. This leads me to believe that I am not the only one who has had problems with this computer disc.Needless to say, my childen are immensely disappointed. Under no circumstances would I ever recommend that this item be purchased. If I could give it less than one star, I would.

1-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of what is known as the Simpsons Curse for me
While the curse began with "Cartoon Studio" for many Simpsons fans, it began with Virtual Springfield for me. Now, I'll began by saying that this is one of the worst designed game ever. The developers attempted to use the "Kids game" excuse, but they even fail at that.
1-0 out of 5 stars Barrels of Disappointment
There's no word to describe the disappointment I felt when I played this; there's not even a sesquipedalian, to my knowledge, that can aptly convey my chagrin. The Simpsons are such a wonderful thing and I thought I would get to partake in their fun, but instead I got to observe as they pass me in the street and rummage through their drawers while they're out. Yes, this was somewhat amusing, but overall a let down. There are mini games and some items to collect to access other areas, but that's as much activity as this game offers. The graphics are good, the voices are the same as the show's, and there are some nice things here, but the difference between what I expected and what I got is as big as Texas.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Waste Your Money
I received this as a gift and upon trying to install it found that:3-0 out of 5 stars no web based browsing
The Gold Edition Wines of the World came out of the package and loaded in like a dream after we changed the compatability to run on a top of the line operating system. The information that was loaded in was great and presented very slickly even without Shockwave. When it came time to set up the web browser is when things got interesting.Trying to get the browser to work took over and hour. When it finally did work the web site for the software was nonexistant. So we called the tech support 1-800 number to get a little help.Imagine our surprise to be directed to an adult phoneline.Oh Boy.So we called long distance to the company to get a little help.No luck everyone was out for the holidays and would not be back until the new year (wish my employer had this type of setup).Since this was a gift we ended up looking like total shmoes and took the gift back with promises to find something else.We have since decided to keep the software ourselves as we cannot return it.We currently are in contact with the company that produces it to find an amicable solution to get this software to work.Long and short of the review is that it has great infrormation, but poor web based browsing. ...
