1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING!!!DO NOT BUY
As aDigital Photographer and a MAC user, I found iPhoto crashes when you try to IMPORT any DIGITAL (only)l pictures from Adobe Photosop CS & Adobe Elemebts 2. I can downlaod my pictures to iPhoto from my Digital camera (D70), export them to my pictures folder, adjust the pictures using either above mentioned software, but cannot Import any of them. Go to MacRumors, you'll see that you're not alone.Hey APPLE?? When are you going to fix this????

4-0 out of 5 stars iPhoto 6
I purchased iLife specifically for iPhoto 6. I haven't looked at the other programs on this DVD. I find iPhoto 6 to be very helpful in downloading, managing, and editing digital photos

Might be a good product but I'll never know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Final Draft 7 does the job.
When I wrote my incredible screenplay on Final Draft 7 I was amazed. My first screenplay was done on Word and took forever to format. The only problem is that my screenplay sits and waits for representation--it's an awe-inspiring story and I can be reached at wlux22 at aol dot com.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Beginner's Thoughts.
Even though I have done a lot of writing in my life, I had never written a complete screenplay.I've had lots of ideas, but had never written them down.I finally decided to get some of these ideas out on paper.I knew from talking with friends who already work in the industry that script readers are very particular when it comes to the format of a screenplay and that one formatting error can cause someone to throw away an otherwise wonderful script.I considered other screenwriting software, but after speaking with my industry insider friends and doing other research I felt that FINAL DRAFT was the best software to get.I've been using FINAL DRAFT 7 for awhile now and have not had any problems with it.For writing screenplays, I love this software.I have not had any trouble with the software not loading and I've not lost anything I've ever written (though I tend to save a lot of my work frequently anyway).I've read most of the other reviews about FINAL DRAFT 7 on Amazon and it seems that people either really like the software or they hate it.I fall into the former category and have found it quite useful. For a beginning screenwriter, it works wonderfully. The only downside I have with the software is that it is quite expensive. As an educator, I was able to get a discount. FINAL DRAFT offers a discount for students, educators, and military personnel, but if you're not able to get that discount then the software is about double the cost that it should be.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a transformation!
Reformatted previously written scripts. The script was transformed to a professional looking one.I was going to rate this a 5 but reformatting is a slow process but well worth it!I have still a lot to learn! Loved it immediately. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for Microsoft Word, for most purposes
I was stunned when I started using Pages v2... because I'd been convinced that Apple would never get a word processor right. AppleWorks pretty much sucked (tedious interface, limited capabilities, never fully updated for Mac OS X). TextEdit is nothing more than a rough draft of an application.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ordered wrong item
I wanted to order the latest Mac version of iLife. Upon receiving your Email solicitation, I automaticaqlly selected the first iLife item that appeared on Amazon's page. Unfortunately, it was for iLife '05, rather than iLife '06.Since I already had iLife'05, I had to send it back and reorder iLife '06. To Amazon, I recommend you feature the latest version of the product and list the discounted older version thereafter. To us Buyers, i've learned to be more aware and detailed in my ordering. It saves everyone a lot of pain and suffering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent update
iLife 06 is a worthy upgrade. With iWeb, I was able to generate a completely new site from scratch very easily. The upgrades to iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD were also welcome, with both speed and feature improvement.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enahnced features, new apps, so what.
I've been a Mac advocate since I switched from Windows to Mac in 2003 and may even consider myself a Mac biggot howeveer, I'm not that impressed with iLife 06 as I'm not really gaining any noticable functionality, features. The new program iWeb is a concept thats been done successfully by two others, Sandvox and RapidWeaver. In either case, their functionality and features far outweigh that of iWeb and give me no reason what so ever to use iWeb.I am a .Mac subscriber and am even thinking that's becomming a waste of my money as I'm not that impressed with their email system but thats another story.

1-0 out of 5 stars It Was OK, Until It REALLY Wasn't
I had used AppleWorks for OS X fairly happily for some time.I never loved it; the interface seemed both sparse and clunky and the included templates were a little lacking.(How about a simple invoice template replacing one of hose certificates.)It gave me some problems when I tried to make a document with slightly more creative formatting and send it to a PC user, but it was at least servicable. When i bought a new Mac, it came preinstalled, so I continued to use it.Then one day, my boyfriend recieved a contract via e-mail that needed to be printed up, signed, and returned. To make a long story short, we dicovered after the fact that AppleWorks had somehow randomly selected a few paragraphs and changed the text to strikethrough. It showed up this way on both of our computers, noth Macs running AppleWorks, but not on my PC running Microsoft Word at work.Fortunately, we managed to sort everything out and thanks to some very nice HR people, no harm was done. But under different circumstances, AppleWorks could have quite literally cost my boyfriend a job.Needless to say, we went out at our earliest convenience and picked up Microsoft Office for Mac.Also needless to say, we will not be using AppleWorks ever again.

2-0 out of 5 stars Clunker of an app
Appleworks really needs a thorough overall. In the latest version, the interface under OSX sucks. Why, oh why cannot the document window automatically expand to fill the screen, and let's have a page layout view that makes sense.
4-0 out of 5 stars Appleworks review

5-0 out of 5 stars A move in the right direction
I'm a big fan of iWork and have always looked for new office apps that out-perform Microsoft's apps which have become so feature-rich that functionality has become akward.I love Pages and the formatting features it provides.I do more layout work than word processing so I'm real happy with the way Pages works for me.Keynote is nice too.I don't believe in lots of slide transitions and builds when making a presentation so a lot of the flash and panash that PowerPoint tries to interject is useless to me.You have lots of capability with Keynote but its clean, simple interface and robust formatting and import capabilities really works for me.
4-0 out of 5 stars iWork 06 is Powerful but Limited
Apple's iWork software presents two applications:Pages and Keynote which is Apple's answer to Microsoft's Publisher and Power Point. As someone who has used both, I can honestly say that iWork blows Publisher and Power Point clean out of the water.Keynote has some added features such as 3D graphs and the capaibility to add numbers in charts (like a very limited spread sheet) added in this version. You can make truly professional looking mind blowing presentations with Keynote that will make any presentation look like a multimedia jewel.Pages allows you to do desktop publishing and print media with the finesse and end results of professional looking print catalogs and brochures. Both applications are well designed and, just like all of the iLife apps, feature the classic Apple interface whereby all of your media content is available and intermeshed into the work flow.Thereis not really any new earth shattering features in 06 from the 05 version, but mainly just tweaks and enhancements.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but still not perfect
Well its definetly improved version since the last one, but they still have a lot of things to do.The biggest problem is Pages. If text has specific symbols, like Greek letters and u try to export your file to doc, forget it.u'll have the same problem as 10 yrs ago, either funky symbols or underline dashes.Keynote is much better. But if u r a scientist and not a sales man, both packages still have a lot of room for improvement. However, I'm still happy with this purchase, because it's Apple soft and looks much nicer than any MS software will get in the future. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars No desire to keep up with the competition!
The only reason I ever use this product is out of necessity -update an old file made in Quark, etc.I really get the feeling that they want to coast on their earlier successes and collect as much as they can before the inevitable obsolescence brought on by Adobe, which despite their own faults, at least make obvious efforts at improving their product. There are so many reasons InDesign is better than Quark, but to summarize, it just seems much more apparent that InDesign was made by designers who would actually want to use the product. In Quark, simple processes like trying to select one graphic element among many others is a huge pain.Select everything and tediously shift select everything you do not want.InDesign will select the object you are trying for even if it is a few layers below. This is one small example of many intuitive features that InDesign has that Quark does not seem to care about.
2-0 out of 5 stars Falling behind the competition, needs urgent update, too expensive
Quark Xpress has always been a so-so software for design in general. If you are into editorial and publishing design, well you have no choice but to buy and get used to the software, because unfortunetly, it is the standard. But if you are into other fields of design, say packaging, Quark is a mega pain in the a**. Macromedia Freehand is still the best overall design tool for the way it treats object manipulation and drawing features. For instance, object allignment, text can be converted to paths, images can be replaced from one image format to another, these features cannot be done in Quark. Worst of all, you can not save documents in prior Quark versions (only 5), like all major graphic applications do with their files! Adobe Illustrator is still the best for, well, illustration. Photoshop is the king for photoediting.I don't think editing Photoshop files in Quark is a very good idea, in the end, you'll always go back to Photoshop to do it right. So the features that Quark states as a plus to justify their pricing are really not very practical, like somebody said, who would want to make a website on QuarkXpress??? But the worst is the ridiculous pricing of Quark products. Say you live in Latin America and you have to buy the passport version, Why pay more than $1000 USD if you only need it in spanish?. Should'nt some international versions be cheaper since they are going to be used in countries that have aweaker economy then the US, This leads directly to one thing, software piracy. If own Photoshop, you cant get a competitive upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite for $500 with InDesign included! So I hope one day Quark reconsiders and makes its products more accesible.
2-0 out of 5 stars REASONS I HATE QUARK.
Quark USED TO BE the industry standard for layout. They had it cornered. But in the last few years, they've managed to jack it all up.Version 5 barely improved on 4 at all, and then there was a long, long wait for the hallowed version 6, and in the meantime Adobe was sneaking up behind them with InDesign. And a lot of us started using InDesign, and maybe we got a little spoiled. When Quark 6 FINALLY came out, it was already too late for me.I'm a total InDesign convert. We have Quark at work, and I still use it regularly as projects require. But for anything I do on my own, ifhave a choice, it's an incredibly easy one.

I installed Greeting Card Factory 1.02 on my Mac and it crashed every time I tried to run it from a user account. In the administrator account it ran fine. That's how I figured out that the problem is solely due to a poorly written installer that sets bad permissions. This can be fixed by running the Terminal from the administrator account and entering:

4-0 out of 5 stars Stable and pretty? Yes. Worth the upgrade from 10.3? Arguably, no.
If you're reading this review, odds are you own a Mac a little over 1.5 years old (with 10.3 preinstalled) and are considering the Tiger update. Even more so at its nowdiscounted price (with a new OS looming on the horizon). Is it worth the price and effort to take the plunge? Unless you're a cutting-edge user running a G5 system, probably not.
1-0 out of 5 stars If I could put negative 1 trillionstars I would
There is no question. This is probably the worst operating system to ever come out into the computer industry. Basically, its a piece... Well, you know what I mean. I promise you, there is a VERY GOOD REASON WHY WINDOWS IS THE MOST POPULAR OS IN THE WORLD. Most of what this OS has is stolen from other OS's, even things like widgets (on the dashboard), minimizing windows (from Microsoft Windows), the very NAME "Windows" (used to describe open applications on the desktop), maximizing windows, virtually everything on it is copied from other OS's, and there is a reason why Apple did this. Their OS is terrible, and they needed to steal from other companies in order to make theirs popular, which even now isn't as popular as Windows, which it stole primarily from. The reason I am writing this review isn't just to trash something on the net, its to help others not fall into the trap that Apple makes out of its OS. Sure, alot of proffesional people use it, but that's because they only need to do one thing, and Apple can do that, but nothing else. If you need to do anything other than browse the web (Apple can't even do that very well, with Safari), then get Windows.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buying a Mac? Learn about OSx86 and VMware.
Apple announced that Intel core duo processors will be used in the new range of Macs. Hardware developers and programmers and just about everyone else ask what is stopping OSX from running on a non-apple computer with Intel processors... turns out that there was not much except for some code in the OSX software. Then somebody changes the code in the fall of 2005. Now everyone who wants to see and use OSX before they buy gets VMware, obtains a copy of OSx86 and boots the latest Mac OS on Windows or Linux. This is not dual booting. VMware is virtualization software. Modern hardware is fast enough to run other Operating Systems at 75% or above speed at the same time. Seeing OSX running on Windows or Linux will have eyes open wide in the room around you. For Mac users who have shelled out their hard earned cash on a Mac, seeing this reaches down into the very depth of the soul. Apple announces a new boot camp that allows Macs to dual boot Windows, but not virtualize it. Back in the 80s - 90s there was good reason to own Mac hardware. In the 21st century all hardware companies are mostly using third world sources to build their components. So in terms of Mac hardware versus clone PCs, there is not much difference anymore. OSx86 booting on a non-apple computer is the biggest event in the history of Apple Macintosh. It will make you think.

Adobe Type Manager Deluxe lets you organize your PostScript Type 1, OpenType, and TrueType fonts to suit the way you work. You can easily activate only the fonts or font sets you need, and then deactivate them when you're finished. Add fonts and create custom sets, and get crisp, clean output from any printer. When you create font sets for use in one-off documents, you can make them temporary by specifying that they should be deactivated or deleted from ATM Deluxe when you restart your system. For recurring document-creation jobs, you can create permanent font sets that will be automatically activated, or remain in their current state, at restart. The program automatically notifies you when a newly added font is a duplicate and makes it easy to view and remove all duplicate instances. You can print a sample page or use the pop-up menus to preview additional fonts. You can also print a one-line listing of fonts in a specified set. ... Read more

I've used ATM Deluxe since it first appeared. It was great under OS 9.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great font manager
Adobe Type Manager is one of those classic Macintosh programs which allows you to turn on and off fonts on the fly, as well as print out samples. It fixes a few minor bugs in version 4.6 (such as non-activation of some fonts) and makes it fully compatable with Mac OS 9.x.Identifying Postscript & truetype fonts is also a breeze. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I'm a teacher and I use this program ALL the time.It helps me create posters with interesting font and there are so many to choose from. What you need to understand is that this is not a word processing program. You create a word in the fancy font and it becomes like a piece of clip art.You can then copy it and paste it into Word or Appleworks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont' Buy
I bought this product not realizing how extremely limiting it was.You can't change the color on the type and the amount of text you can use is only 40 characters.Let alone the sizing capabilities are limiting...........way too much to complain about, so don't buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just as good as FC HD and better than iMovie
I've actually downgraded from Final Cut HD because when I bought that software it didn't work with my computer and then Apple couldn't fix so I was out $300. I needed to buy another software package but didn't want to spend another $300 so I went with FC Express. Because I'm a student it only cost me $99. To tell you the truth it's not that much different than the full version of FC. Most people that use FC are doing features which I'm not doing, and other people use it for the title generator and sound editing. I have other softwares for that.
5-0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY loving it (but am prepared for learning curve).
I had read a lot of reviews (here and elsewhere) warning of Final Cut's massive learning curve, and I do believe that helped soften the blow when I first tried this program. Because there definitely is a learning curve--this is far more complex than iMovie. But, the good news is, it's not beyond the newbie's reach!
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without Final Cut Express HD
Final Cut Express HD is awesome. But don't try to learn how to use FCE on your own - buy a book such as Final Cut Express for Dummies and spend some time working through the concepts. I had previously used Adobe Premiere, so making the switch to FCE was not quite the hurdle that is going to be for others. If you make the jump from iMovie, do realize you will need to spend a lot of time learning how to use FCE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile upgrade; make sure you haven't outgrown it
This is a worthwhile upgrade, especially for owners of FCE 1.x...there is not that much new here for users who own FCE 2.x, except for the HD video capabilities. I have started wondering whether I'm ready to use the features found in the "Pro" version -- and a little annoyed that some of the features in Express seem to be crippled merely to distinguish between FCE and FCPro. (A good example is being able to save a custom column layout in the Browser -- you can do it in Pro, and USED to be able to do it in FCE, but not any more!) I also want exportable/importable Edit Decision Lists (EDLs); most of the third party apps that work with Final Cut depend on reading and writing these XML-based lists to do their job. The best you can do with FCE and a third party logging product is produce a printed or on-screen EDL from the third-party product that you then use as a guide in FCE for editing. BUT, those are quibbles, and to be expected from a stripped-down version of a high end product. Overall, FCE delivers the goods, and provides a degree of control over projects that will be a revelation to iMovie owners patient enough to follow the learning curve.

5-0 out of 5 stars A valuable upgrade to FCE2
FCE/HD bringing Soundtrack and LiveType to the hobbyist is one of the more generous steps Apple has taken since they brought us FCE1. This is a very big and very useful addition to FCE allowing us to sync audio/music and titles much cleaner to our videos than we could before.
