2-0 out of 5 stars Insecurity Issues
After using Norton products for the past five years I found myself thoroughly displeased with this one. To me, Norton's best features are its adblocking component, its antivirus protection and its firewall. Unfortunately, immediately after the install my Windows XP control panel froze and I could no longer uninstall any other software. It simply would not work and since I have a lot of software on my PC, it was at the very least, a most irritating feature.
1-0 out of 5 stars Nortons internet security 2006/bad buy
purchased a new computer. installed nortons internet security 2006 on it and my beautiful, fast, accurate system is now as bad as an early 386!! i can't even uninstall it (Is there a way?) tech support sent me to a website that offered to sell me additional norton's products and no help. i can't even uninstall w/ add remove/ or wipe programs. it hangs up my system whenever i try to access it or other programs as well, forget about being able to see my email! right click on the systems tray icon and the computer freezes. my new system is a mess!!!!! i do not trust norton's any more. i gave it a 1 star because there was no zero choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money - if ccapp.exe crashes
If you have tried this program and/or the antivirus and you have seen ccapp.exe errors or your PC crashes unexpectedly, it is because ccapp.exe is a Symantec program.Up until very recently, I had assumed (DUH) it was a Microsoft application. Then I got fed up and called my brother who is somewhat of a computer genius, and he told me right away what it was.I have been using Norton Antivirus and the Security Suite for years now. Always upgrading, usually through the boxed version, (there is a difference between the versions from different years).I have used it on many computers low and high-end and laptops.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!
If you buy this product simply because you think it will be free after rebate then think twice. A requirement to get the $30 competitive/upgrade rebate is the proof of purchase presumably located in the top inside flap of the box. Believe me, I have looked real hard and cannot find it in the box I have received. Mcafee has decided to include a two page user manual which only outlines the software installation procedure. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Norton Systemworks 2006 DOESN'T work in my system
I hate to criticize any product, especially I have been using Norton anti-virus for years. However, Norton Systemworks, interestingly, unlike its name--It doesn't work for me. It slows me down and need to reboot n times to install it and it was getting slower and slower in each reboot. So, I decided to uninstall it and I need to roboot, reboot, and reboot. After my uninstalling of SW2006, it also took out the antivirus that I already have in my computer. So I need to uninstall my Norton Internet security 2005 then installed it back. Totally hours spent: 8 hours. I installed System Machinic 6 afterwards, it is a way better utility. I am retuning Systemworks back to Norton, thank God that there is a 60 days money-back guarantee. But even there wasn't, I would have done the same to uninstall it and keep it away from my system.
1-0 out of 5 stars Long-time User Ready to Ditch SystemWorks 2006
I have been purchasing Norton Systemworks for 4 PCs at home for about 8 years. When I installed an update to 2006, it installed OK and worked for about 6 months. Then, during a LiveUpdate session, the LiveUpdate software sat there trying to make a connection and never completed. In subsequent LiveUpdate attempts, the software reports that I can't launch Update because it is already running. I've used their "support" articles, and killed the various processes and relaunched LiveUpdate, but then it just hangs and never makes a connection. When I used their online support, I got a lot of really stupid, time-consuming suggestions such as deleting my DSL connection, turning off my firewall, numerous re-boots, installing an updated LiveUpdate application. One support rep "hung up" on the chat in the middle, and only one out of three support rep's have emailed the chat log I've requested each time. I've used XP's "Remove Software" to uninstall all listed Norton products as well as LiveUpdate, followed by a full reinstall. After the reinstalls, LiveUpdate ran successfully ONCE to update all the out-of-date files, but the next time LiveUpdate attempted to run, it could not make a connection. Same problem. Another "support" chat, who suggested I uninstall and reinstall everything, AGAIN. There are no support articles for the 2006 Systemworks for performing a full removal/uninstall. I specifically asked the support tech for information on registry entries I should check or delete, or other instructions to ensure a full/total removal prior to attempting one more uninstall/reinstall cycle. The support tech said he would email me info and a copy of the chat log, which have never arrived. I have built PCs, diagnosed & repaired numerous software & hardware problems over the years, and direct a corporate IT department. At this point, it really appears that Norton Systemworks has a repeating error, and their support has been useless in helping resolve. I have other things to do with my life than spend multiple days and nights trying to troubleshoot Norton's bloated, underperforming Systemworks software. I still like the Utilities provided in the application; unfortunately Symantec made the decision a few years ago to stop packaging the Utility programs separately. But with 6 months left on my current subscription, but no ability to benefit from it because of Systemworks' inability to run LiveUpdate, I will be looking for a better/replacement product. I doubt I will look at Symantec products in the future. Too bad, Symantec has taken a great product line and made it bloated and unstable, and even Symantec support is virtually helpless to resolve their own problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE product
I recently upgraded to the Systemworks 2006, assuming that it was "better and improved". What a mistake! This program has been a headache from the get go. I reformatted my computer prior to the initial install, so I did not expirence the same installation problems that others here did. But I promise, even if you get this installed, it's a mess. First, the GoBack feature is nothing more than a terror that slows your computer and eats your resources. Then the program ended up allowing a virus to get through, and not only could it not remove it, I couldn't manually remove it either. So I had to reformat again, less than a month after it was installed. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Security Software on the Market!!
I was recommended this software by Amazon Merchant Xpresstech in 2003 and have been using it ever since. This is an excellent product and it is the least intrusive of all similar products!
1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money and get something else
After a couple of months of working perfectly, the software said that the registation is invalid (I purchased a 1 yr subscription, so this error message should not appear). After going thru all the knowledge base on Trend Micro's website, none of the solution worked. I contacted Trend Micro and it seems that all they can do is cut and paste the same solutions off their website and send them via email. After couple hours of headaches and no progress, I decided to uninstall the software and going to get some other anti-virus software. Save your money and don't even bother with Trend Micro, their product will just stop working prematurely and their tech support is awful. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the END!!...What a piece of CRAP!!
I too must echo the end of my patience with Symantec / Norton. My computer was running just fine with Systemworks 2005 and Internet Security 2005 (although as I recall there were installation issues with these as well). Now I get a notice that my subscription is almost up, and would I like to upgrade (and I use the term loosely!). Ok..I pony up about $59 to upgrade to 2006...let the nightmare begin...
1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
Do not install this on your computer.Your pc will be bloated with slow and over complex software. After uninstalling the System Works suite in XP the system rebooted and Norton GoBack starts to uninstall. Still waiting for that to complete over an hour later and I have a pretty fast PC.Don't waste your time with this dog... Norton used to be good but it's junk now. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware is the best available
Kaspersky is full function, easy to use, and does not over burden my desktop.I like the ability to set it for hourly updates which are typically 40-60kb and my computer doesn't even blink when the update happens. I appreciate the full protection and ease of use and it is well worth the money. [...]

5-0 out of 5 stars So Easy
Kaspersky was so easy to install and get up and running I could not belive it. The hourly updates are great! The update files are so small you don't notice that it's happening. After I installed and ran Kaspersky it found viruses and spyware that AGV and Adaware let through. You can't go wrong.

2-0 out of 5 stars Curse of the Anti-Virus Software Writers
What is it with the folks who write this kind of software? It must be reeeaally hard to do, because no one seems to get it completely right, including Kaspersky.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sub System Malfuntion
This is Malfuntioning piece of Junk. A Time consumer that drive you nuts.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best and Effective Security Product.
I am a data communication analyst and have lots of experience and knowledge when it comes to data security and system performance. I have used Norton products and was a loyal user though they add several services and entries to the auto run key in the registry for no good reason thereby negatively impacting system performance especially if you use laptop. Whenever I installed Norton product I had to tweak the registry in order to stop unnessary drain of system resources.I tried Kaspersky Internet Security version 6 after Norton ghost failed to clone my hard drive to the new and faster hard drive. I ended up restoring the saved image to the new drive and was prompted with activation which, of course, failed. After testing the program for about a month and delving into all advanced settings ,I honestly would like to assert that Kespersky labs Internet Security Suite is a super performer andeffectivly does its job without adding some interfaces designed to sell you more. The program is just amazing and well worth the money. The bottom line is that its the best out there. Of cousre just like everything elseit would require some common sense to use it to its full potential.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst security product I've used
Had this for three computers at home, and it was working at first, after two weeks it started causing significant performance problems and interaction with other programs on one system and I had to remove it.After 6 weeks and update was pushed out and really hosed the second computer causing significant performance problems and preventing World of Warcraft from running and I had to remove it from that one.The first two were Win XP Pro.The third computer barely gets used and is Win 2000 Pro and havn't had any significant problems.Tech support is the worst I have seen, ok maby D-Link was worse a few years ago. They don't even list the product in their technical support and you have to pay to speak with anyone.I have gone back to using simpler but functional/working security products.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice debugging....poor resource editor
I'm a C++ developer and I bought Visual Studio 2005 to take advantage of the resource editor, since in most other respects the free edition (Visual Studio Express) has many of the same features.I'm sorry to report that the resource editor is practically unusable, and they have yet to patch it as of this writing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Visual Studio Yet
In my opinion, the best Visual Studio version yet. Quick startup with customizable visual settings based on what language programmer you are. I found this very easy to just into .NET 2.0 C# as well as a C++ programmer, and the windows forms designer is very clean and easier to use in my opinion. The layout seems more modern and easier to use, and blends in very well with Windows Vista or Windows XP.

For all developers out there, this is a great purchase.Even if you are a dyed in the wool Microsoft Visual Studio 6 programmer as I was this is one great improvement. My preferd language is Visual Basic, and I was worried about the learning curve due to the fact that Microsoft, has completely changed the way you write Visual Basic now, but as it turns out there are allot of changes that make writing code easier.Basing everything on the .NET Framework, in my opinion, was one of the best moves that Microsoft has made lately.

    1-0 out of 5 stars Ripoff--Disable ware
Don't buy software you pay good money for only to have it disabled! If I had known this was going to be disabled prematurely, I would have never had bought it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Installation Hard, Tech Support Variable
I've used Norton for years.I had trouble installing it too. At one point, I had a tech support guy (the only one who really knew what he was doing) remotely control my computer for three hours after five earlier calls to tech support to install it and uninstall the old one.The pre-scans often failed but when I skipped them, it worked better. One other suggestion is to make sure all symantec folders are deleted before installing the new version, including folders in the Windows Registry.I too couldn't install GoBack and just went on without it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't install Go Back
After reading the reviews here, I was downright scared to put this version on my computer even though I have been using Norton to protect my computers for 10 years. Their record for both easily installed software and customer support has worsened by the year.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best $10 i've spent in a long time.
Reading all the negative reviews about Norton's Save and Restore software makes me wonder who is really writing this stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars If It's A Norton Product, How Bad Can It Be?
The answer is that it's not a bad product. It's a good product that does what it's supposed to do. After reading the other reviews here I was very hesistant to buy S&R, but it was exactly what I was looking for and I have been very happy with all of Norton's other products. My thinking was "Norton has probably sold millions of these, and chances are all the folks who are happy with the product aren't going to take the time to come here and write a review. Only the people who have had problems, which may have had something to do with their computer and little to do with S&R." So I took a chance, bought the product, and it installed and works flawlessly.

1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY S&R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought it to move my 40gb drive to a 320gb drive. I'll admit I had a bunch of trouble doing this but after spending an entire afternoon I was able to switch drives. After that I went to conduct a backup but the funny thing is S&R is still reporting my 40gb drive. So being a Release Engineer by trade I uninstalled the proudct, deleted the symantec folder and then checked my registry. Once I thought it was clean enough I reinstalled S&R and it still listed the 40gb drive. This to me suggests the Symantec writes registry entries that can't be removed or modified once there. These registry entries are also hidden and won't come up using the search function.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Future of Computing with Multiple OSs at the Same Time is Here! (Can also boot Mac OSX on a PC!!!)
Now we can truly virtualize as many Operating Systems (OSs) as we like on a modern rig, all with full networking capabilities that run anywhere between 100% and 75% of the speed as if the OS was actually hard installed on the system. However when we are talking systems with above 512 MB of RAM and better than 2.0 Ghz, you are never going to go with a single OS machine or a multiboot/dualboot when you have seen VMware in action. I have booted Windows XP (you can boot Win 3.1, Win 2K also if you want), Linux Slackware (one of the unsupportedLinux distros that works and I don't see why all Linux versions should work), FreeBSD6 (6 is unsupported but works), Solaris 10 (no problem) and I have personally seen the Apple MAC OS X Tiger running on it, but running OSx86 is illegal. However I have seen it on VMware on a PC. You can load all this on a notebook and have all of these OSs running on it at the same time, even full screen mode and it just looks so unreal, the kind of stuff that moves your soul when you see OSx86 with networking running on a PC Laptop. The fact you can toggle between the OSs without needing to boot only one OS and the presence of OSx86 makes this an absolute must. A few things need to be noted though. Sometimes you should use VIRTUAL IDE Virtual HDDs instead of SCCIs in VMware virtual hardware setup. In VMWARE BIOS (F2) you sometimes must change large disk access mode to OTHER rather than DOS, especially for Linux systems. If you can't get proper screen resolutions sizes, install VMware Tools from VMware, right click on OSs tab, "Install VMware Tools" and this mounts the tools inside the OSs in the /cdrom drive. Copy it and install it and you should have all the resolutions you need. Anyway what are you waiting for? This is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and Awesome
This application is terrific.VMWare Workstation eliminates, for most applications at least, the requirement for dual or multiple boot systems. For example, you can switch operating systems with the click ofa mouse button.I have actually had three operatiing systems running concurrently on my system.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much better than MShome
Net Magic give you a easy to read flow chart of your all your connections and shared folders. Also the IP and mac addresses, speed etc. Setting up file sharing between comps was easy, getting the printer to print from the notebook was a bit tricker. Also the version 2.0 that is being sold here is from 2005 and doesn't support wireless. There is a free upgrade, but you will need to able to connect to the net via a LAN until you are upgraded.

5-0 out of 5 stars It magically saved my network!
Frustration was building...Countless hours spent trying to get my computers to communicate.Talk to each other!!Why don't you see each other! Each could connect to the network, but not to each other.Someone please help!
1-0 out of 5 stars Nice Concept, Doesn't Work
Share your printer easily? Serve your shared files over the internet with Net2Go? Get updates about the security status of your computers? Sounds great, but it doesn't work. Printer sharing never worked well, the status of computers is sometimes inacurate, and Net2Go?

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep this thing away from your PC.
I just got the automatic upgrade.THE PROGRAM DOES NOT HAVE A CLOSE FEATURE!!!That's right, once it's running on your computer, you cannot close it.I went to the manufacturer's tech support forum.Apparently, the people at McAffe haven't decided upon whether or not to include such a feature. I feel like I just downloaded a piece of malicious software!Read on for more complaints...

1-0 out of 5 stars This product is AWFUL.
I have had earlier versions of this product which worked OK (except the SPAM blocker was over zealous).I bought the upgrade on CD and after TWO months I get an expiration message. This is where it gets to be a nightmare.I have spent HOURS with McAfee support who have had me download programs aimed to clean out remnants of older versions and deleting lines from the registry.Literally hours and hours later, dozens of re-boots, working in Windows SAFE mode it still won't work. This product is a waste of money and a waste of time.I am looking into a class action suit.Any one want to join?

2-0 out of 5 stars Stupid
Twenty years using computers, and this is the first virus scanner that doesn't allow me to tell it what drives it should scan. It's very obvious (to anyone with half a brain) that we might not want to scan all of them. In my case, the program "hangs" while scanning my .Mac iDrive. I don't need that drive scanned, but there's no way to tell the product a simple thing like that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Norton SystemWorks
After installing this on a corporate IBM laptop the system would freeze after booting. There was no way to recover except by repeated forced shut-downs and learning how to get to the install disk to de-install as fast as possible.Unfortunately the de-install does not take place quickly enough and the system freezes in the middle of the de-install.What a disaster of a product!!!!!I remains to be see if I have ever recover my corporate laptop ...

2-0 out of 5 stars No longer supported
I have to say that I have loved this product when I initially purchased it as part of a package in 2004.BUT - it just recently crashed and I was told by Symantec (after much time on the website & on hold on the phone) that they are no longer supporting this software!Since I have been a "good" computer user and backed up all my info I was assuming there should be some way to get back this information - WRONG.The only thing they said I could do was try to reinstall the program, but since I initially purchased it as a download only, I no longer was able to do that...
5-0 out of 5 stars Works great, even with a bug
I have this and love it. I have all my passwords on a sheet of paper in my safe incase I ever need to really "see" them.
1-0 out of 5 stars Symantec is on the skids...
I bought Password Manager when it was first released and was very satisfied with it. But then came the crashes and its unwillingness to start up correctly (e.g., the Sign In dialog would not display on reboot). After years of uninstalling and reinstalling Password Mangler to fix its variety of issues -- always having to go back to the original installation CD and work _up_ from there -- and struggling with Symantec's obscure and unhelpful Web site (and their obscure and unhelpful off-shore technical support), I'm giving up on it.
