NIS is now the problem, not the solution
I have used Symantec and Norton products for years with good success.But Norton Intenet Security is a disaster.Unexpectedly, after a long period of problem free operation, I encountered a series of problems on my computer.E-mail would not work.Ping URL locked up (but Ping IP worked OK). Microsoft task manager would not stop non-responsive tasks, plus several other problems.After paying Microsoft to help diagnose, it turned out that the culprit was NIS2005.Turn firewall off and everything works fine.There is no effective support from Symantec without paying half again for the product.Now a new problem has surfaced. NIS is asking to activate the software again (it was activated when purchased). The web says that there are all sorts of unrecoverable problems with NIS activation, and I can't afford to spend another day with more problems.Originally, Symantec was a good company, but I think they have lost it.

Let me start by saying that I have pretty much always used Norton software for computer safety and have not been disappointed, and that is the only reason that It gets 2 stars (more like 1 1/2) since I am sure that it works just as well as their other products. Also, I am a college student and can seldom to afford to purchase either new versions or subscription fees that Norton seems to enjoy doing these days. I figured that I would just bite the bullet this year since it has been at least 3 years since I have upgraded any of the older packages that I own.

I've been frustrated with this product so long, that the anger which would have inspried at least an entertaining review has left me.
This thing rocks on my 1ghz 256mb XP sp2 Emachine...
I upgraded from NAV 2002 and ZoneAlarm to this...
Stick with the older NAVs
Both my wife and I purchased this software near the end of 2004.At first, many of the "features" were just an annoyance, and I assumed that I would gain experience with them and move on.That never happened.

Norton Internet Security 2005 Antispyware Edition creates as many problems as it solves
After reading many reviews, both postitive and negative, of the Norton Internet Security 2005 Antispyware Edition, I went ahead and purchased it.I have been a Norton user for years, so I decided to take a chance.It installed easily and worked beautifully for almost two months.Then my computer started crashing.After many attempts to find the root of the problem and after much expense, I am convinced, as other reviewers warned, the Norton software is to blame.Now I cannot turn off my computer without its crashing; I am unable to update my antivirus protection because I get a message via the Norton software that it cannot make an Internet connection. (I have followed all directions for correcting this that is found on the Norton website, but nothing works.) Also, the software really slows down the receiving of email. And forget getting any help from Norton other than what is written on their website.In essence, I have paid a hefty sum for software that causes crashes, causes sluggish performance and worst of all, cannot give me up-to-date protection. I feel totally ripped off.So tonight I am going to uninstall Norton (which from past experience I suppose will involve more than a simple uninstall click) and try PC-cillin.
A Multi Dollar Allusion to Buying an Apple Computer
This product is an absolute menace to my normal daily internet activity. It blocks Java links well, so well in fact, that I am having troubles getting around on quite a few pages and also other strange stuff is happening to my page-layouts.

McAfee strengths and weaknesses
I have been using McAfee for a couple of years and when the Security Suite is up and running it is very good. I added Quick Clean to it and find that very useful in tuning my PC. But there is a downside - every few months McAfee tell me that one of the products - say Spam Killer - is out of date. So I go on line for "chat" which is very tedious and rarther worse than watching paint drying. Inevitably they tell you to uninstall the product and reinstall and that results in mega problems. Today after manuall uninstalling the five items in the Security Suite I found that I had compeletely lost my Outlook - all gone - personal folders - email - contacts and calendar. A real nightmare. It took many phone calls and all day to resolve. Customer support and tech support are dreadful. Virus Scan does however work well and kept all sorts of nasty stuff at bay for me.

Don't Buy This! It's Slow, a Resource Hog & Caused both browsers to Cease Functioning! Use [free] Spybot S&D 3.1 + free Hostman
Awful,Awful,Awful,Terrible, Terrible,Terrible. I should have listened to the reviewers on here! Especially when the one guy here said that Macafee IS the virus. He was right. I just could not believe it could be soooo different from the recently discontinued 4.5.1 for school/corporations [enterprise]. Boy, was i wrong! Not only does it take minutes to start up, Most of the time, after that, you can hardly even move your mouse [even though a resource meter shows hardly much usage]. What a lemon! I Tried reinstalling 2 or 3 times, rebooted 6-7x, re-updated 3x's etc. Error. U can't adjust anything or uninstall its addware in 1 step & it doesn't tell u what it's doing. U cannot remove it's adware in 1 step. Never detected anything- or didn't tell me?! Try free sharewares: Spybot 3.1 Search&destroy, maybe add Hostman + a firewall. Goin' maybe 4 Panda. This or nothin? Gimme nothing.

I chose this software after my Norton expired.I have always hated the way Norton has so many applications running at the same time.I was worried it was taking up too much of my CPU.I decided to try Mcafee since it was free.I am disgusted with it and don't even want it for free.Every time I open up applications, the computer runs slow for about 30 seconds; do a search on your hard drive, slow again.I uninstalled and the computer races through these applications.I understand that I have to have a little trade off when it comes to making sure I'm protected but this program is a resource HOG!Even with all the junk norton was running, I never had this problem with Norton.My next step is to try AVG Free.I just hope that someone comes out with security software that doesn't think it owns the entire computer.

Great product for the $$
I found a lot of negative reviews on this site.After checking some other sources and talking to some tech guru friends of mine, I decided to buy the software.It works flawlessly with my office network (single user DSL) and my home network (WiFi with a cable modem ISP).In addition, I have not seen any conflicts with Norton 2004.I love being prompted before my computer "talks" to the internet.

Quite frankly, Zone Alarm Pro 4 (ZAP) does the job. And does the job well. With customizable setting for programs and websites, and configurable popups to let you, the user, choose what exactly is and isn't allowed to access the internet, ZAP is essential. Nope nope nope
Product activation code is supposed to arrive within two-three business days by email. This took three weeks. And you MUST have it to run the software. After finally getting the code, we had many problems with the software BUT could not return it because by that time, the return period expired. Hard on wireless networks.
I switched from Norton Internet Security because it let something in and could not remove it.When I installed PC-cillin my laptop would no longer print on my wireless network.I installed PC-cillin on another wireless computer on my network and the wireless network connection died.I had to run an Ethernet cable to get it back online but the computer would not print anyway.I messed around trying to get it working for almost six months and made no headway.
