5-0 out of 5 stars Love Windows XP Home
I have been running Windows XP SP2 and would "never" want to go back to Windows ME or Windows 98. With the XP, I rarely need to re-boot my system, and my PC no longer freezes up. There is a built-in Windows Firewall plus a pop-up blocker which are both awesome. The system is much safer, and I have NEVER had a virus, worm, or trojan horse while running the Windows XP Home with a good internet security/virus program.
5-0 out of 5 stars Upgrade to XP Home w/SP2
Absolutely the easiest upgrade of a Microsoft OS that I've ever done, & as a retired hardware engineer, I've done a lot in the past. It's one sweet OS!

3-0 out of 5 stars surprised by the stability
Of course this software didn't install as advertised; I had to boot

    I needed this for my new MacBook laptop that will give me Apple and Windows on the same machine.The laptop works fine, the pocketbook is thinner.You do what you have to do;

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad even for Microsoft
Since they began, Microsoft has consistently delivered on the poor quality that we have all come to expect from them. They have outdone themselves on this product though, exceeding their previous products in sheer lack of quality. They have greatly stepped up their efforts to make Windows be the worst it can be, successfully making it even worse than their previous operating systems.
3-0 out of 5 stars Windows Media Player 10 = a lot of TROUBLE!!
I don't mind Windows XP, but I want to discuss a product that comes with it, Windows Media Player 10.

1-0 out of 5 stars It sucks!
I decided to try and give Linux a chance. I have a PC running Windows XP, and I decided to install Suse Linux on its place.
3-0 out of 5 stars A lot of work but worth it
I brought SuSE 10.1 to use while I am on a job in Northern Wisconsin. I had a computer but no operating system. Rather than add to Gate's fortune I ordered 10.1. I have an earlier verison of this OS at home and found it easy to install in an older machine. The same holds true with 10.1. However, if you justt want an OS that works right out of the box this is not the one for you. This is especially true if you are connecting into a wireless router as I have to here.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great OS for the server room or for the power user desktop
A long time unix fan, I found SuSE 10.1 to be a pleasant surprise. While the Novell Enterprise product, based on the SuSE 10.1 code base, is a bit more polished than SuSE 10.1, it's also more specialized, being divided into a desktop and a server edition. For my money, like SuSE 10.1 because it comes equipped with all the tools and features needed to serve either purpose quite nicely.

1-0 out of 5 stars MacBook with the Intel Chip owners Beware
Virtual PC 7 does not work with the new Intel chip MacBooks.Mac is working on Boot Camp that installs a partition so that both Mac and Microsoft programs can be run, and Microsoft is working on a new version of an emulator that is compatible with the Intel chips, but both will cost extra.None of this appears in the product information of either.I learned this after I purchased a new MacBook Pro and tried to load Virtual PC 7 that I used with my G5. ... I THINK WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL IS VERY HIGH ON SECURITY IT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD FOR ME I HAVE USED IT FOR 1 MONTH NOW AND HAS BEEN VERY GOOD. FROM JUDITH NOTHDURFT

1-0 out of 5 stars Another Failure in the Windows Scepter
Windows is crud, and everybody knows that. Windows 2000 is chief among the hall of failure. First, it has a blocky, chunky GUI. Second, EVERY TIME you lauch it, it prompts you with this ridiculous "Welcome to Windows 2000" statement. Welcome me to binary code? Wow, how appealing. Besides the fact that even if you check the box that say "Don't show this again", it continues to show it. Third, the "Open Microsoft document" option in the Start menu never works. It always says that it can't open it. The library is obviously faulty. Fourth, the Microsoft Office Applications ALWAYS have to do a "Connecting with Microsoft Office SR-Standard" message, which you promptly have to cancel, because it will cycle between connection and cancellation. Fifth, the bundled version of Internet Explorer does not allow you to redirect in websites. I know this because whenever I open my Yahoo! e-mail, I always have to click the link on the page that says "If you see this page, your browser prevents you from redirecting to other websites." Sixth, you cannot open files from a server or external drive without opening Microsoft and using Ctrl+O. It's a mess. It is (like other Windows OSs) completely unfriendly to the use of ',`,~,,, and so on. Seventh, there are very ambiguous shortcuts...in which case you might as well go to the symbols palette, which is nearly impossible to decipher because of the hundreds upon hundreds of tiny Unicode characters packed into tabular format.

1-0 out of 5 stars The only thing that has crashed Mac OSX
This is the worst piece of software I have ever used. Three separate installations have brought my Mac (with 10.43) to a complete halt. Each time the Virtual PC Windows installation was too scrogged to work after a hard re-boot. The last time it also managed to scrogg my OS-X Mail configuration (and who knows what else). I should have known better than to install Microsoft software on a functioning computer. For not much more money you can by an old, used Windows PC - that way when it crashes, at least it won't mess up your Mac. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Eh...?
Why would anyone want to play games on a Mac? It's a computer for musicians, graphics designers, video editing, etc. You know, serious adult stuff. Mac OSX is based on UNIX. The previous reviewer obviously knows nothing about the stability of UNIX, which is what Mac OSX is based on. Even OS9 on a Mac never crashed as much as Windows. I love the simplicity of OS9, but OSX has so much to offer right out of the box - on a consumer level. And another great thing about Macs - they work straight out of the box, so you can get on with your life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great OS
This OS is one of the best I've used in years. I switched over from Windows and never thought of switching back. The usability is great along with the robustness. It's never crashed on me except when I was using faulty audio hardware device. The looks of it is just incredible. I came up with my own saying:"Once you go mac, you'll never go back". I gave this OS 4 stars because of Safari and it's inability to print selected portions of a website with time stamp and address, other than that it's great.

After reading just some of the 'horror stories' of Windows 98SE written here, I have to say BUNK!I've used Windows 98 since it was introduced, upgrading from Windows 95.I upgraded to Win98SE when the Second Edition became available.I Still use Windows 98SE today.

I have used most of Microsoft's operating systems released since 1995 (95A, 95B, NT, 98, 98SE, 2000, and XP), and Windows 98SE seems to have the most bugs.I have installed Win 98SE on about 6 different computers, and have had one or more of the following difficulties on each machine:

This is the slowest. Operating. System I have ever used. The first time I installed XP Home, I didn't see what was so bad about it, but when we tried installing it on our new Gateway Machine, it imedettly slowed all system operations down to a crawl. Even My brother's laptop, which is a very Fast Machine, has XP pro, and it randomly slows down. Don't get this operating system. It's slow, buggy, and expensive.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unstable and ...
This operating system was one of the most unsatisfactory I have ever used--including DOS, Win 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows 98.
1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!
Do not buy this.Go with Mac OS X 4.2 Tiger, it doesn't crash or lock up.Plus you will get access to really cool applications out of the box that lets you do almost anything media-wise.I could go one for hours how the Macintosh operating system is better but I will say one last thing...Tiger is faster than Windows.Research has proved that Tiger and all the other operating systems conserve CPU performance to such an extent that 90%-100% of the speed is left for applications and such.Windows eats up so much speed along with DOS that from 20%-30% of the performance is left for the user. That puts a normal Windows computer (3Ghz) at less than 1Ghz.While a normal Mac computer (2Ghz) runs at 2Ghz.Plus the fastest Mac is a dual G5 each running at 2.7Ghz.So actual speed is 5.4Ghz.The fastest Windows computer is around 3.6Ghz which runs around 1Ghz.That is a HUGE difference (5.4Ghz-1Ghz.)When Apple moves to Intel chips next year (about,) The Macs will run around 6.4Ghz if not more. That is an even MORE HUGE difference.Take my word for it.The Windows world is not worth it.Whenever I go on my Mom's computer (which is running on Windows XP,) I encounter a lock up or annoying hickup in the OS, EVERY TIME!!I agree that a good amount of people don't find Windows to be unstable, but even when I go to a friend's house I notice them there as well.Every Windows computer I have used for more than 20 minutes has locked up.But it's not just this, it's also that Tiger is so much easier to use.

I can't change the number of stars, but after corresponding with Tastybytes' prompt and nearly courteous tech support, I will shift the blame to Amazon.

I have a 30 gig ipod that is full of music. It took countless hours to burn all my Cd's and transfer the files to my player.I have very little room on my PCs hard drive, so after transferring the files I had to delete them from my PC.I recently bought an external hard drive and with this product it was very quick and easy to back up my ipod to my new hard drive.I can now rest easy knowing that I will never need to burn all my Cd's ever again.Great Product!

2-0 out of 5 stars Windows 98 with a few more bugs
Windows ME is not capable of ever being compared to Windows 2000, not even Windows 98. It is a good upgrade for those of you running Windows 3.0, but if you have Windows for Workgroups v3.11 or above, with the exception of 98 second edition - stick with it... ME is 98 with some bugs taken out, more added into it.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Total Disaster!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so in November of 2000 I got my first computer not knowing anything much about computers back then I got a Gateway 900mhz with an Amd Atholon processer and guess what it came with Windows Me. The sales person was boasting all of this bull**** about how much better it was than windows 98 and yes I bought his bull**** story and got the computer for 1200 bucks. Ever since then I have always had probelms with it it would freeze up a lot and I would always have to use the control alt delete feature to get it working again and sometimes I would have to shut down the computer manually to get it to work right. One day my printer stopped working and I was on the phone for like an hour with the tech support and couldn't get it to work. Since then I haven't had a printer. And then about a couple of weeks ago I bought an HP psc 2355 printer and it printed and it copied but I couldn't get it to scan!!!!!! And I couldn't get any of the printing software to work!!!!!!!!!!!. I was so frustrated because when I called hp and talked to their tech support I was on the phone for f***ing two hours and still couldn't get it to work even the guy from hp said the operating system sucks. So then I took it back to Wal-mart where I bought it from and got my money back. And then I went to best buy and got me an epson 4600 all in one and the sales guy from epson told me that it would work with my system and the sales guy from best buy told me it would work. And when I got home and tried the printer it would copy but it wouldn't print or scan and if I turned my computer on with my printer on it wouldn't boot up to the desktop I kept getting all of these error messages. I couldn't call tech support because it wasn't toll free so I tried reinstalling the stystem and reinstalling the software but it was doing the same thing and even worse to where the computer wouldn't boot up at all the computer wouldn't shut down at all with out turning off the surge protecter so as frustrated as I was I went back down to best buy and got a refund for my printer and talked to somebody from the geek squad and they asked them to diagnose my system for probelems. The guy said well....it would cost sixty bucks but he said honestly it would be a waste of time he told me that I should put that sixty bucks toward an upgrade to windows xp so I took his advice and I did, but I had to pay one hundred bucks for the software and sixty for the installation but it was worth it my computer is running better than ever before, even though I haven't bought another printer yet, the tech guy said it would work for sure. So in conclusion if you don't want to go through what I went through don't get windows me get XP. Me is fore more errors. ... Read more

Microsoft has, as always, produced decent software. It is nothing to get excited over, but it does its job.

as my old Works Suite 2002.I tried installing the 2002 suite on my new computer. Kept getting an error message about not being able to display the EULA agreement for me to accept, and thus wont install the Works Task launcher. I tried all the "fixes" but it just wouldnt install, so, I bought the Works Suite 2005 from Amazon.Well, I got an error message after I installed it. This time about not being able to run it on Windows 95, 98 and 2000.Well, I'm using XP Pro.Long story short, I just right clicked on TASK LAUNCHER, THEN COMPATIBILITY, THEN UNCHECKED THE COMPATIBILITY MODE BOX, and the program started up.I also had to uninstall Office 2003, which uses Word 2003 because Works Suite 2005uses Word 2002. This was on the advice of Microsoft Tech support.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiger is what Windows ever tried to be
Tiger is simply the most advanced personal Operational System on Earth!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfectly optimized
Everything was perfect until I used Expos. The animation was a little choppy, but that probably has more to do with using an iBook G3 than with Tiger.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tiger Mac OS
I had two new fully operational G5 computers with Panther operating system already factory installed.I was contacted by Apple that a new Operating system was available, faster, yada yada yada.

1-0 out of 5 stars the worst version of Windows since Windows 2.0
Windows Me is basically Windows 98 with a fancy new name to allude to the year it was released (2000)...it was just some PR stunt. As with Windows 98, Windows Me is crash prone...so expect to see one BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) after another. I tried Windows Me back when it was released...I went right back to Windows 98...and since then I have migrated to Linux.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't ever buy this
For those who says that ME works properly, I would like to know which computer they have.ME is garbage.....I was going crazy everyday, reinstalling the program.I was a master, an expert doing that.An everyday new crash.I bought XP and my life changed, My girlfriend now loves me and everything is different in my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those older computers.
I owned Windows ME from 2000 to 2005 (when I upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition SP2). My computer came with ME pre-installed. Not as stable as Windows XP. Only ever crashes when you don't defrag, spy ware scan, virus scan and reg clean. If you do this daily - weekly. You will be running more stable. I'm not exactly sure why Microsoft released this operating system so close to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. I think it is because of a delay in XP causing ME to be a force release. A bit like a XP Beta. Id recommend it to anyone but if you're looking for that extra piece of stability, performance and not looking for the blue screen of death id recommend XP.
