4-0 out of 5 stars Eh...?
Why would anyone want to play games on a Mac? It's a computer for musicians, graphics designers, video editing, etc. You know, serious adult stuff. Mac OSX is based on UNIX. The previous reviewer obviously knows nothing about the stability of UNIX, which is what Mac OSX is based on. Even OS9 on a Mac never crashed as much as Windows. I love the simplicity of OS9, but OSX has so much to offer right out of the box - on a consumer level. And another great thing about Macs - they work straight out of the box, so you can get on with your life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great OS
This OS is one of the best I've used in years. I switched over from Windows and never thought of switching back. The usability is great along with the robustness. It's never crashed on me except when I was using faulty audio hardware device. The looks of it is just incredible. I came up with my own saying:"Once you go mac, you'll never go back". I gave this OS 4 stars because of Safari and it's inability to print selected portions of a website with time stamp and address, other than that it's great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiger is what Windows ever tried to be
Tiger is simply the most advanced personal Operational System on Earth!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfectly optimized
Everything was perfect until I used Expos. The animation was a little choppy, but that probably has more to do with using an iBook G3 than with Tiger.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tiger Mac OS
I had two new fully operational G5 computers with Panther operating system already factory installed.I was contacted by Apple that a new Operating system was available, faster, yada yada yada.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stable and pretty? Yes. Worth the upgrade from 10.3? Arguably, no.
If you're reading this review, odds are you own a Mac a little over 1.5 years old (with 10.3 preinstalled) and are considering the Tiger update. Even more so at its nowdiscounted price (with a new OS looming on the horizon). Is it worth the price and effort to take the plunge? Unless you're a cutting-edge user running a G5 system, probably not.
1-0 out of 5 stars If I could put negative 1 trillionstars I would
There is no question. This is probably the worst operating system to ever come out into the computer industry. Basically, its a piece... Well, you know what I mean. I promise you, there is a VERY GOOD REASON WHY WINDOWS IS THE MOST POPULAR OS IN THE WORLD. Most of what this OS has is stolen from other OS's, even things like widgets (on the dashboard), minimizing windows (from Microsoft Windows), the very NAME "Windows" (used to describe open applications on the desktop), maximizing windows, virtually everything on it is copied from other OS's, and there is a reason why Apple did this. Their OS is terrible, and they needed to steal from other companies in order to make theirs popular, which even now isn't as popular as Windows, which it stole primarily from. The reason I am writing this review isn't just to trash something on the net, its to help others not fall into the trap that Apple makes out of its OS. Sure, alot of proffesional people use it, but that's because they only need to do one thing, and Apple can do that, but nothing else. If you need to do anything other than browse the web (Apple can't even do that very well, with Safari), then get Windows.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buying a Mac? Learn about OSx86 and VMware.
Apple announced that Intel core duo processors will be used in the new range of Macs. Hardware developers and programmers and just about everyone else ask what is stopping OSX from running on a non-apple computer with Intel processors... turns out that there was not much except for some code in the OSX software. Then somebody changes the code in the fall of 2005. Now everyone who wants to see and use OSX before they buy gets VMware, obtains a copy of OSx86 and boots the latest Mac OS on Windows or Linux. This is not dual booting. VMware is virtualization software. Modern hardware is fast enough to run other Operating Systems at 75% or above speed at the same time. Seeing OSX running on Windows or Linux will have eyes open wide in the room around you. For Mac users who have shelled out their hard earned cash on a Mac, seeing this reaches down into the very depth of the soul. Apple announces a new boot camp that allows Macs to dual boot Windows, but not virtualize it. Back in the 80s - 90s there was good reason to own Mac hardware. In the 21st century all hardware companies are mostly using third world sources to build their components. So in terms of Mac hardware versus clone PCs, there is not much difference anymore. OSx86 booting on a non-apple computer is the biggest event in the history of Apple Macintosh. It will make you think.

Mac OS X, Apple's next-generation operating system, debuted to great enthusiasm, but ultimately left users wanting more: more speed, more applications, more usefulness. Sure, it looked pretty, but you had to boot up into OS 9 when it came time to do some real work. That has all changed with the recent release of Mac OS X 10.1.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Watch out for USB driver problems and kernel panics
Six months into using OS -X started having Kernel panics (Apple's blue secreen of death). Not running non-Apple programs, multi-tasking, or running peculiar non-standard hardware (Logitech tracball, HP printer/scanner). 5 trips to the repair shop - new hard drive, new RAM, new system board, upgrade to 10.2.8; 4 phone calls to Apple "Support." Kernel panics returned. Lots of web searches - found lots of boards where people have the same experience, and found the only permanent solution was downgrading to OS9 or upgrading to OS 10.3. "Support" denies it's poor USB software.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love OS X, but be wary of the server version
my advice is to make sure you need it before you buy it, but if you know you need it, then buy it.How will you know?If you need it, you would already know that you do.If you don't know that you need server version, then you probably don't need it.Most day to day tasks are done by the normal version of the os in ways that are much simpler than the server tools. Now you do get a variety of nice things with the unlimited client, such as server managment systems, monitoring systems, etc., but if you are just doing a basic install without a complex networking or users/groups system, then you probably should try to do what you need to do with a 10.1 or 10.2 and see if you actually have to own the server.I would say the ideal application of a server install is for a medium to large lab install using netboot, where the actual cost of doing it via server will lower the TCO significantly.

5-0 out of 5 stars OS X best ever
Hands down the best OS right now! This update is crucial before you upgrade to Jaguar. It's simple, doesn't crash, easy to use even supports right clicking!Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dashboard crashes iMac more than Panther ever did
For one year I ran Panther on my new iMac. Virtually no problems and no crashes. I have crashed more times with Tiger in one month than ever before. I think it is Dashboard and I only have a couple of the native widgets in use. What a shame - they are so cool. But I want my flawless, stable iMac back. Why won't Apple acknowledge this obvious problem?

1-0 out of 5 stars OS X is flawed for server work
I love OS X but what do you buy a server for?... to centralize tasks such as web hosting and databases. This article:
1-0 out of 5 stars Be Careful Before You Upgrade
I thought for the first time that I'd stay on the cuttng edge of Mac OS. Little did I know that under Tiger all of my applications would crash more often and run more slowly. I also didn't know that Symantec wouldn't support Tiger, so that my old versions of Norton Utilities and Norton Antivirus no longer work while Symantec does not plan to sell versions that do work on Tiger.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Easy to Set Up
I found OS X Server 10.3 very easy to set up. Share points were easy to set up too. Print sharing was a bit confusing to set up, and only works with network PostScript printers. I had hoped to share my three inkjet printers too.1-0 out of 5 stars Panther server - not as good as OSX 10.1.4 server!
Wow, as a user of OSX 10.1.4 server unlimited, I was fairly happy, I trusted Apple to improve things in Panther OSX 10.3.3 Server- oh what a dissapointment! In 10.1.4,the Server Admin is easy to figure out, easy to work with - and they RUINED it in Panther! Now I have a messy obtuse interdependent server admin thing - I can't believe it, there is no obvious way to set up share points!I read through the documentation, and it just doesn't work, probably I need to tweek some scripts on the command line - but hey, if I wanted to do this, I'd get a Windows server.I find OSX 10.1.4 server and Windows 2000 Pro server do a much better job of serving ) OS9.22 clients.Yes, with Panther server, I can see it in on my OS9.22 machine in the same subnet - it shows right up, when I connect it says "negotiating" for 20 seconds. This is with 1 client connected to aRead more

5-0 out of 5 stars It really is like a completely new computer
The features and functionality are great, but what might also be of interest to lagging Mac upgraders are the speed enhancements. It made my clamshell graphite iBook much snappier, and even improved performance on our son's antique CRT iMac.

4-0 out of 5 stars Apple continues to deliver
With OS X 10.4.3 Tiger, Apple continues to provide significant improvements to its operating system. The upgrade went smoothly. I love the speed and the new features in their new search engine, Spotlight. I also like the new Dashboard, although there is a bit of fluff there.
