5-0 out of 5 stars Love Windows XP Home
I have been running Windows XP SP2 and would "never" want to go back to Windows ME or Windows 98. With the XP, I rarely need to re-boot my system, and my PC no longer freezes up. There is a built-in Windows Firewall plus a pop-up blocker which are both awesome. The system is much safer, and I have NEVER had a virus, worm, or trojan horse while running the Windows XP Home with a good internet security/virus program.
5-0 out of 5 stars Upgrade to XP Home w/SP2
Absolutely the easiest upgrade of a Microsoft OS that I've ever done, & as a retired hardware engineer, I've done a lot in the past. It's one sweet OS!

3-0 out of 5 stars surprised by the stability
Of course this software didn't install as advertised; I had to boot

    I needed this for my new MacBook laptop that will give me Apple and Windows on the same machine.The laptop works fine, the pocketbook is thinner.You do what you have to do;

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad even for Microsoft
Since they began, Microsoft has consistently delivered on the poor quality that we have all come to expect from them. They have outdone themselves on this product though, exceeding their previous products in sheer lack of quality. They have greatly stepped up their efforts to make Windows be the worst it can be, successfully making it even worse than their previous operating systems.
3-0 out of 5 stars Windows Media Player 10 = a lot of TROUBLE!!
I don't mind Windows XP, but I want to discuss a product that comes with it, Windows Media Player 10.

I am now enjoying Virtual PC for Mac.However, when I first got it, I only had 256 MB of RAM and it froze up my Mac constantly!!!After I upped the RAM to 512 MB it worked great!!

1-0 out of 5 stars MacBook with the Intel Chip owners Beware
Virtual PC 7 does not work with the new Intel chip MacBooks.Mac is working on Boot Camp that installs a partition so that both Mac and Microsoft programs can be run, and Microsoft is working on a new version of an emulator that is compatible with the Intel chips, but both will cost extra.None of this appears in the product information of either.I learned this after I purchased a new MacBook Pro and tried to load Virtual PC 7 that I used with my G5. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the best version of Windows, bar none

5-0 out of 5 stars windows 2000 professional
I THINK WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL IS VERY HIGH ON SECURITY IT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD FOR ME I HAVE USED IT FOR 1 MONTH NOW AND HAS BEEN VERY GOOD. FROM JUDITH NOTHDURFT

1-0 out of 5 stars Another Failure in the Windows Scepter
Windows is crud, and everybody knows that. Windows 2000 is chief among the hall of failure. First, it has a blocky, chunky GUI. Second, EVERY TIME you lauch it, it prompts you with this ridiculous "Welcome to Windows 2000" statement. Welcome me to binary code? Wow, how appealing. Besides the fact that even if you check the box that say "Don't show this again", it continues to show it. Third, the "Open Microsoft document" option in the Start menu never works. It always says that it can't open it. The library is obviously faulty. Fourth, the Microsoft Office Applications ALWAYS have to do a "Connecting with Microsoft Office SR-Standard" message, which you promptly have to cancel, because it will cycle between connection and cancellation. Fifth, the bundled version of Internet Explorer does not allow you to redirect in websites. I know this because whenever I open my Yahoo! e-mail, I always have to click the link on the page that says "If you see this page, your browser prevents you from redirecting to other websites." Sixth, you cannot open files from a server or external drive without opening Microsoft and using Ctrl+O. It's a mess. It is (like other Windows OSs) completely unfriendly to the use of ',`,~,,, and so on. Seventh, there are very ambiguous shortcuts...in which case you might as well go to the symbols palette, which is nearly impossible to decipher because of the hundreds upon hundreds of tiny Unicode characters packed into tabular format.

If you're patient you'll be satisfied with the performance. If you're not you'll hate it. You'll need at least a 100 gig hard drive because Virtual PC is a space hog!

1-0 out of 5 stars The only thing that has crashed Mac OSX
This is the worst piece of software I have ever used. Three separate installations have brought my Mac (with 10.43) to a complete halt. Each time the Virtual PC Windows installation was too scrogged to work after a hard re-boot. The last time it also managed to scrogg my OS-X Mail configuration (and who knows what else). I should have known better than to install Microsoft software on a functioning computer. For not much more money you can by an old, used Windows PC - that way when it crashes, at least it won't mess up your Mac. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Eh...?
Why would anyone want to play games on a Mac? It's a computer for musicians, graphics designers, video editing, etc. You know, serious adult stuff. Mac OSX is based on UNIX. The previous reviewer obviously knows nothing about the stability of UNIX, which is what Mac OSX is based on. Even OS9 on a Mac never crashed as much as Windows. I love the simplicity of OS9, but OSX has so much to offer right out of the box - on a consumer level. And another great thing about Macs - they work straight out of the box, so you can get on with your life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great OS
This OS is one of the best I've used in years. I switched over from Windows and never thought of switching back. The usability is great along with the robustness. It's never crashed on me except when I was using faulty audio hardware device. The looks of it is just incredible. I came up with my own saying:"Once you go mac, you'll never go back". I gave this OS 4 stars because of Safari and it's inability to print selected portions of a website with time stamp and address, other than that it's great.

After reading just some of the 'horror stories' of Windows 98SE written here, I have to say BUNK!I've used Windows 98 since it was introduced, upgrading from Windows 95.I upgraded to Win98SE when the Second Edition became available.I Still use Windows 98SE today.

I have used most of Microsoft's operating systems released since 1995 (95A, 95B, NT, 98, 98SE, 2000, and XP), and Windows 98SE seems to have the most bugs.I have installed Win 98SE on about 6 different computers, and have had one or more of the following difficulties on each machine:

1-0 out of 5 stars Errrrrrrrrrrrrrgh...
This is the slowest. Operating. System I have ever used. The first time I installed XP Home, I didn't see what was so bad about it, but when we tried installing it on our new Gateway Machine, it imedettly slowed all system operations down to a crawl. Even My brother's laptop, which is a very Fast Machine, has XP pro, and it randomly slows down. Don't get this operating system. It's slow, buggy, and expensive.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unstable and ...
This operating system was one of the most unsatisfactory I have ever used--including DOS, Win 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows 98.
1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!
Do not buy this.Go with Mac OS X 4.2 Tiger, it doesn't crash or lock up.Plus you will get access to really cool applications out of the box that lets you do almost anything media-wise.I could go one for hours how the Macintosh operating system is better but I will say one last thing...Tiger is faster than Windows.Research has proved that Tiger and all the other operating systems conserve CPU performance to such an extent that 90%-100% of the speed is left for applications and such.Windows eats up so much speed along with DOS that from 20%-30% of the performance is left for the user. That puts a normal Windows computer (3Ghz) at less than 1Ghz.While a normal Mac computer (2Ghz) runs at 2Ghz.Plus the fastest Mac is a dual G5 each running at 2.7Ghz.So actual speed is 5.4Ghz.The fastest Windows computer is around 3.6Ghz which runs around 1Ghz.That is a HUGE difference (5.4Ghz-1Ghz.)When Apple moves to Intel chips next year (about,) The Macs will run around 6.4Ghz if not more. That is an even MORE HUGE difference.Take my word for it.The Windows world is not worth it.Whenever I go on my Mom's computer (which is running on Windows XP,) I encounter a lock up or annoying hickup in the OS, EVERY TIME!!I agree that a good amount of people don't find Windows to be unstable, but even when I go to a friend's house I notice them there as well.Every Windows computer I have used for more than 20 minutes has locked up.But it's not just this, it's also that Tiger is so much easier to use.

2-0 out of 5 stars Windows 98 with a few more bugs
Windows ME is not capable of ever being compared to Windows 2000, not even Windows 98. It is a good upgrade for those of you running Windows 3.0, but if you have Windows for Workgroups v3.11 or above, with the exception of 98 second edition - stick with it... ME is 98 with some bugs taken out, more added into it.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Total Disaster!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so in November of 2000 I got my first computer not knowing anything much about computers back then I got a Gateway 900mhz with an Amd Atholon processer and guess what it came with Windows Me. The sales person was boasting all of this bull**** about how much better it was than windows 98 and yes I bought his bull**** story and got the computer for 1200 bucks. Ever since then I have always had probelms with it it would freeze up a lot and I would always have to use the control alt delete feature to get it working again and sometimes I would have to shut down the computer manually to get it to work right. One day my printer stopped working and I was on the phone for like an hour with the tech support and couldn't get it to work. Since then I haven't had a printer. And then about a couple of weeks ago I bought an HP psc 2355 printer and it printed and it copied but I couldn't get it to scan!!!!!! And I couldn't get any of the printing software to work!!!!!!!!!!!. I was so frustrated because when I called hp and talked to their tech support I was on the phone for f***ing two hours and still couldn't get it to work even the guy from hp said the operating system sucks. So then I took it back to Wal-mart where I bought it from and got my money back. And then I went to best buy and got me an epson 4600 all in one and the sales guy from epson told me that it would work with my system and the sales guy from best buy told me it would work. And when I got home and tried the printer it would copy but it wouldn't print or scan and if I turned my computer on with my printer on it wouldn't boot up to the desktop I kept getting all of these error messages. I couldn't call tech support because it wasn't toll free so I tried reinstalling the stystem and reinstalling the software but it was doing the same thing and even worse to where the computer wouldn't boot up at all the computer wouldn't shut down at all with out turning off the surge protecter so as frustrated as I was I went back down to best buy and got a refund for my printer and talked to somebody from the geek squad and they asked them to diagnose my system for probelems. The guy said well....it would cost sixty bucks but he said honestly it would be a waste of time he told me that I should put that sixty bucks toward an upgrade to windows xp so I took his advice and I did, but I had to pay one hundred bucks for the software and sixty for the installation but it was worth it my computer is running better than ever before, even though I haven't bought another printer yet, the tech guy said it would work for sure. So in conclusion if you don't want to go through what I went through don't get windows me get XP. Me is fore more errors. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent software, but not worth the cash
Microsoft has, as always, produced decent software. It is nothing to get excited over, but it does its job.
3-0 out of 5 stars Dont think I'll like it as much..........
as my old Works Suite 2002.I tried installing the 2002 suite on my new computer. Kept getting an error message about not being able to display the EULA agreement for me to accept, and thus wont install the Works Task launcher. I tried all the "fixes" but it just wouldnt install, so, I bought the Works Suite 2005 from Amazon.Well, I got an error message after I installed it. This time about not being able to run it on Windows 95, 98 and 2000.Well, I'm using XP Pro.Long story short, I just right clicked on TASK LAUNCHER, THEN COMPATIBILITY, THEN UNCHECKED THE COMPATIBILITY MODE BOX, and the program started up.I also had to uninstall Office 2003, which uses Word 2003 because Works Suite 2005uses Word 2002. This was on the advice of Microsoft Tech support.

With the cutely named Windows Me (for Millennium Edition), Microsoftraises the bar a bit with a new operating system that you'll certainly want toconsider for your next new PC. While this version will probably not be acompelling upgrade for most Windows 95/98 users, the newest member of theWindows operating-system family bundles a number of minor improvements aimed atmaking computing life easier for home users.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars the worst version of Windows since Windows 2.0
Windows Me is basically Windows 98 with a fancy new name to allude to the year it was released (2000)...it was just some PR stunt. As with Windows 98, Windows Me is crash prone...so expect to see one BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) after another. I tried Windows Me back when it was released...I went right back to Windows 98...and since then I have migrated to Linux.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't ever buy this
For those who says that ME works properly, I would like to know which computer they have.ME is garbage.....I was going crazy everyday, reinstalling the program.I was a master, an expert doing that.An everyday new crash.I bought XP and my life changed, My girlfriend now loves me and everything is different in my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those older computers.
I owned Windows ME from 2000 to 2005 (when I upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition SP2). My computer came with ME pre-installed. Not as stable as Windows XP. Only ever crashes when you don't defrag, spy ware scan, virus scan and reg clean. If you do this daily - weekly. You will be running more stable. I'm not exactly sure why Microsoft released this operating system so close to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. I think it is because of a delay in XP causing ME to be a force release. A bit like a XP Beta. Id recommend it to anyone but if you're looking for that extra piece of stability, performance and not looking for the blue screen of death id recommend XP.

Windows XP is the operating system release that unifies the Microsoft range, with all the desktop versions now built on the NT/2000 code base rather than the shakier foundation of Windows 95, 98, and Me. That makes XP a great upgrade for users of the now-obsolete 9x and Me line, but for those already on Windows 2000 Professional it is a closer call. Despite the similar name, there is no special synergy between Windows XP and Office XP, which works fine on Windows 2000.Read more

If you're reading this. You want to upgrade, your old computer to Windows XP Professional Edition here are a few things to keep in mind.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
The product of Windows XP- Professional is just what I was looking for with many updated features and I am looking forward in using it daily. It was shipped exacting when they had told me to expect it.But most of all, Service was "top knotch".I could not have asked to better service on any questions or problems I may have had. Customer service is a plus. I would not hesitate to purchase another product from this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Longhorn!
First off, for people who are complainingabout installing Windows 2000, it only took my approx. 6 1/2 hours! I love it because every time I launch Internet Explorer it freezes! I also love that theres 42 spyware programs and 78 tojans on my harddrive before I even hooked up my internet. The one thing I love the most though is that I can download any movie I want. Like the recently video game adapted film Mortal Kombat! It was at full quality on my 28.8k modem and it took about 3 minutes. The blue sceen of death happens so often i just went ahead and set it as my desktop and my screensaver. I also bought the separate Ctrl Alt Del accesory pad, ive had it for about 2 days and i cant even tell what key is what anymore because i've used it so much. But all in all DOS has been a blessing, and i hope everyone embraces Windows 95 into their homes.

The Microsoft Windows 98 operating system is the upgrade to Windows that makes your computer work better and play better. It works better by making it simple to access the Internet and by providing better system performance along with easier system diagnostics and maintenance. With Windows 98, your system plays better as well, with support for the latest graphics, sound, and multimedia technologies; offers the ability to easily add and remove peripheral devices with support for universal serial bus (USB); and enables you to watch TV on your PC. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 98 BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. XP2 is stable but insecure.
Running Windows 95 and that means Windows 98 is illegal in your country and you are in the land of needing a new computer fast, feeling that you might have a box that looks like it is running windows 3.1 and to be honest now is your chance to move to Windows 2000 for a more solid operating system. Even NT users found more stability in Windows 2000, 98 users mostly gamers or downloaders, seeing the blue screen of death often, while Win 2K users doing something a little more software intensive like multimedia, graphics and servers that 98 could not manage. So came the day of the duel-processor, having an NT Dual 500mhz, upgrading to Win2K and you still had a fast machine, 64mb and 128mb games cards never really impressing you that much to get a better machine, a games console maybe cheaper and better, XP a little slow for you and besides, 2K was compatible with nearly everything and you could duel boot linux for fun. The only reason to buy a computer between the release of XP and now was if you did not have one and even then plenty of second hand units going around.
1-0 out of 5 stars Ripped Off
I ordered this and it was to be filled by American Computer. It is advertised as guaranteed to be new and would have the product key. I received an illegally copied cd. It was a generic cd that had been recorded. The label affixed to the cd and the label that was inserted into the case were both printed on an ink jet printer. There was no product key. This was a scam. Totally useless software. I immediately contacted Amazon.Com and they referred me to American Computer. Amazon.Com is now processing a credit for me.

Enhance productivity and reduce computing costs with Windows NT Workstation, the most powerful desktop operating system for business computing. Windows NT Workstation offers greater performance and combines the ease of use of Windows 95 with the reliability and security of Windows NT. Version 4.0 features many improvements over earlier versions. This version touts 20 percent higher performance and greater ease of use with the Windows 95 user interface. Simplified tools include the familiar Start button, Taskbar, Shortcuts, Network Neighborhood, and My Computer. This software also offers easier management and control with User Profiles and System Policies that give users network access control, and it supports users who roam between multiple workstations. The Setup Manager reduces the time and effort it will take to deploy Windows NT Workstation, and an improved version of the Windows NT Diagnostics Program greatly facilitates remote desktop troubleshooting. These tools all help you reduce the total cost of ownership of distributed PCs. This is an upgrade package that requires an earlier version of Microsoft Windows NT. The software will not upgrade Windows 3.1, 95, or 98. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Great After Almost 8 Years On The Market!
After being on the market for almost eight years, Windows NT 4.0 is still a great option for people looking for a stable and powerful operating system. The OS is especially great for older systems as it only requires a 486 w/ 16 mb of RAM to run. (though a Pentium+ is recommended and helpful). Don't choose NT if you're looking for USB or games, though, as the support for DirectX & USB is skimpy at best. (it isn't hopeless, though) So, if you're looking for a good, proven OS, NT is an option.

3-0 out of 5 stars If passing an A+ exam...
This NOS is currently being used in todays business environment.. It is still an industry standard and is included in exams suchas the 2003 A+ objectives - why not buy a copy at its relatively low price!!?

1-0 out of 5 stars Still thinking about NT 4.0?? Go for 2000.
Why would spend money on soon-to-be obsolete NT 4.0? Go for 2000 servers,it will save you money. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for a beginner
When I first started writing, I wanted to create a website. Now many people said I should go with a professional but I just wanted to do it myself. After comparing price and what it could do(at the time I didn't know what I wanted) I bought it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Simple and Effective
This is a simple and effective program for a first-timer (and I am definitely one of those) to use to create a website.Once you have your pages made, you can 'build' your site and then use any text editor to edit the pages as needs be.[...].

1-0 out of 5 stars Just as bad as Web Easy 6.0, possibly worse...
I tried both of these programs to no avail, even after reading extensively their online "detailed" instructions. Both of these programs are a virtual nightmare and the interface is so badly designed, even an experienced webmaster would have much difficulty figuring it all out. There are almost NO instructions while working with it, and the horribly annoying little pop ups that appear when you're trying to figure out HOW to do a simple task also tell you NOTHING about HOW to do the task. I have never seen a program so erractic and confusing like this before!Absolutely the worst designed program, don't waste your time or money unless you want to rip your hair out trying to decipher it. ...
