Don't Buy This Software Unless You Want To Spend $15k
This software was terrible and the package is totally misleading. We wanted to run 8 of our stores using one of these 10 Multi-Store packs. Turns out you need a copy of this $1500 software for every single computer you want to run as a Point of Sale system. So in order to actually run 10 stores with the multi-pack, you have to buy $15,000 worth of software. We would have needed to buy 8 copies of this $1500 software to run our stores. Also, you can't ever open more than 10 stores either. Intuit doesn't have any support for more than 10 at all. The software won't handle it. ... Read more

Software is OKAY, Rebate Service is aweful!
I bought this software in March 2005 on Amazon and it took until October 2005 to get my 2 rebates that were supposed to make it free in the end.It took numerous emails and calls to get my refunds due to me. I guess Nova hopes customers just give up trying to get their money. The software is fine for everyday use, but don't let NOVA rebates weigh into your purchasing decision.

very disappointing
My mother worked for H&R Block for many years, so I have no personal problem with them.
Fed Ok, States Not
The Federal program worked ok for me, though the interface is a bit clunky.However, the MD state program has some minor glitches, and the WV state program doesn't handle part-year residents, which of course I didn't know until I fired it up at the last minute...

cut out this software -- find something else!
I wrote a nice long review but as it happens my computer shut down before the review was submitted. However, I'm going to do it again here because I don't want you to waste your time like I wasted mine on this software this year, my first year doing my own taxes.

Terrible software and even worse support
TurboTax is buggy and the support is terrible!You cannot update your state information after the initial review without manually editing the tax forms.If the field involves computations, you must do these manually after changing it.If you try to re-run the interview, it just brings you to the "finish" screen.I talked to four different people from TurboTax support about this.They say it's a known bug and they have no plans to fix it.If I wanted to manually edit to forms, I wouldn't have purchased this software!If you make changes to the federal, TurboTax state isn't necessarily updated.I received the following ridiculous suggestions from support:clear your cookies (I'm not using the web version); delete this file, but make sure you empty the recycling bin (what??); go to forms and click delete form (there is no delete option).I don't know where they get these ideas, but support isn't helpful when you know more than they do!

Turbotax Failed
Don't believe the rating of one.A minus 5 would have been more appropriate. After six years of being a faithful Turbotax user, the changes they have made in 2004 are convincing me never to use their product again - even if I could.After purchasing the downloadable version it failed to unzip. Three hours on the phone with representatives in India did not solve the problem. Finally I got them to send me a CD, which seemed to install but hung up on the question "Select a tax return type" that offered zero choices and no pull-down.I can't believe they would release a product that seems designed to frustrate their customers!!!

Worked As Advertised For Me
I have used TurboTax products since 1995, with the exception of trying TaxCut last year, which was a disaster. The TurboTax State product had no difficulty quickly and accurately completing tax returns for my state (Minnesota) after finishing my federal return.

D**ned if you do...
Although all the previous reviews I've read about Quicken 2003 have been right on the money about this version of the program, no one has offered any solutions! After lots of research, I was able to get q03 to print from windows xp - open the printers folder, highlight your printer, right click and click on properties, click on the "advanced" tab on the top, click on "print processor", choose "winprint" and "raw" and click ok until everything is closed. Doing this enabled me to finally print reports and statements. Hope it works for you.

Buggy Quicken 2003
I've used various versions of Quicken for well over ten years, upgrading just about every year.Quicken 2003 is a huge dissapointment.I download transactions from my financial institutions and then reconcile the online balances.For some inexplicable reason I periodically get the error message "The total of the previously cleared items in your register no longer matches with the ending balance of your prior statements." I very much suspect that Quicken 2003 has a bug in its reconciliation module and that this problem is not due to operator stupidity, as I never had this problem with past versions of the software.Technical support for the product is miserable.

Got XP? Forget Quicken 2003!
If you're running Windows XP, Quicken 2003 isn't for you. Yes, the interface has grown clunky -- the mark of software that's piled on so many bells and whistles that it's become morbidly obese. But what good is any financial software if you can't print reports? With XP, you cannot. Quicken 2003 simply crashes and closes when you hit the print command.Read more

Best Value, Bugs can hamper you
I have a financial services company that includes bookkeeping and have used Quickbooks and Peachtree extensively.For the smallest businesses either product will do the job.However, Peachtree has in my opinion a much stronger product for the price.I have switched several customers from QuickBooks to Peachtree but never the other way.I am not surprised the person had conflicts with his network installation.I did find a few bugs with the newest version of Peachtree(mainly related to G/L reporting) and will watch closely to see how quickly they have updates.In the past they have been really good with updates, however, with new ownership I do caution what kind of tech support and "customer first" service you will receive.The person that wrote that its competition is NOT Quickbooks is mostly right.It is the OTHER product in the price range and the "best marketed" and will do the job for most mom and pop operations(though after seeing what people do in QB that have no bookkeeping skills you could be better off with using a paper system, believe me)Quickbooks is poorly designed and set up in comparison.I consider QB a PRO version of Quicken in its design and use of "registers".Peachtree is much more powerful and offers alot more to people that want to expand there accounting system in the future.However, both programs slow down considerably over the network when your company size gets very large(Over 20 MB etc.).Another Caveat is Complete accounting is not compatible with the other 2002 versions.I have some clients that don't need the extra features and network compatibility BUT I set up there books on my Peachtree, backed it up and brought it to them to restore and WAS INCOMPATIBLE.Not sure if that effects anyone else but just a mention.Overall it is comparable to the features you find in products I've seen bought for $10,000+++.The only thing you really get for the extra thousands is the ability to handle more than 5 workstations and better database management.Also learning Crystal Reports can take some time but with it you can do anything with Peachtree as to reporting.By far best value in the price range.

Addendum to
In an earlier note about Peachtree I expressed displeasure that PCA 2002 no longer permits editing the "Global Tax Tables". It is true that this option apparently has been removed. However - one CAN still edit "Company Tax Tables" (Peachtree maintains two sets of tax tables - Global and Company - in case books are maintained for multiple companies, some of which require different calculations for the SAME type tax.If there is an entry in the Company tables with the same name as a table in the Global tables, the system will use the Company table.) And one CAN use these tables for all payroll computations, therefore, my original ire at Peachtree has moderated. Will install PCA 2002 after all. (My guess is that it is the custom of the majority of users to just spring the $$ for the payroll tax update service rather than try to figure how to update themselves. For me, I want the option to do it myself for nothing.) ... Read more

Good product gone bad
I used TurboTax in 2000 and 2001; it was simple and error free. But 2000 was a nightmare in several respects. When I tried to locate the self-employed health deduction location, for instance, I simply got a message telling me what had to be done and the software didn't take me there. I had to do a manual override. It kept telling me there were errors (I was using EasyStep) but when I would fix the ones it found it would tell me there were more than before. I opted to download the current upgrades, which, it said, would take just a "few minutes." At 56k it too an hour and a half. Then it printed the quarterly estimated tax vouchers for 2003 with letter across it saying that they required a software update to print properly. We're in July of 2003 and they aren't ready? They have turned a relatively simply and effective application into an abomination. It took me 5 hours to do our simple taxes, and I eventually had to just send the forms off with "error" still being reported. The prior two years I spend about 2 hours using TurboTax.

On the down slide
Many errors, awkward. I've used Macintax and turbo tax for many years. This year was the most problem filled one yet. Ane they make the filing rebate harder and harder to collect. Worked nearly flawlessly for me
I have used both Kiplingers and TurboTax products in the past with good results, and this year's effort using TurboTax for Mac was no different. Installation and updates were easy, and with broadband access, I had no problems with download times (including the download of the state version).Read more

Very user friendly tax software
I have used TaxCut for several years now, and really appreciate its convenience and ease of use.The software works like an interview - you answer a list of questions, and when you are done, your tax return is complete.It picks up the data from prior year returns done on TaxCut, so if you use the program year after year, it gets progressively easier and less time-consuming to prepare your taxes.Clear explanations are provided for every entry, potential problem areas are flagged, and your return is compared with average taxpayer returns in your income bracket so you can see if your deductions etc. are out of line with the norm. The state program for my state is also very simple to use.In my opinion, using TaxCut is far simpler and less stressful than either doing taxes by hand or using a tax preparer.

Don't use Tax Cut if you have to file an Oregon State return
Last year I used Turbo Tax and was able to file my state return electronically.This year I switched to Tax Cut and it doesn't support E-filing the Oregon State return.Now, at the last minute, I have to print and file a manual return. This will add about 2 months to the time it takes to get a refund.Next year it's back to Turbo Tax, no matter how bad it is, it's better than Tax Cut.

Disappointing; about as good as TurboTax was 2-3 years ago
I switched to TaxCut from TurboTax because reviews said it was as good as TurboTax but without TurboTax's copy protection scheme.Unfortunately, I was disappointed.Entering Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) transactions was much more difficult than last year's TurboTax.The capital gains wizard was almost no help.The online instructions and help were much less helpful, and the help had a much poorer index.Read more

Beware
This is very bad software it tell's you that your bank will take these checks NOT NOT they will only take them if your printer has MAGNETIC INK and then you cannot even find this ink unless you have a lase printer . not user friendly
The documents are fine, but I found the software to be difficult to use. Even though the software is downloaded to your hard drive, you save each document seperately when it is completed. Very unweildy

Badly designed software, nonexistent customer service or management
Nolo brings out a new version of Willmaker every year. I emailed them to see if my Virginia will was still valid. They didn't even have the courtesy to answer. I checked, and the law hadn't changed. I suspect this is the case with virtually all, if not all, states.
It needs to be done, so do it now!
As another reviewer noted, the Schiavo case brought to light the need to get our affairs in order in a timely matter. This software does the trick. It's straightfoward and easy to use. There's a basic Q&A that gives the user an idea of what forms need to be used, and further Q&A to fill those forms out. It took me very little time (15 - 20 minutes in my case, others will vary) and gave me great peace of mind. You will have to get some forms notorized just in case there could be a dispute, but even a notary plus the cost of this software is a lot cheaper than any lawyer!

Still learning
I bought Quicken since I wanted to be able to keep track of my expenses.I am taking a class to learn to use it.I am not yet proficient with it, but it seems promising.

Just changed banks, and got bumped by Quicken 2005
Well, to follow up on most of the other reviews: Intuits choice, not to allow .qif imports for checking accounts anymore, it the big bummer. I didn't realize this issue, until I recently moved.

I did not order QB2005 but was sent it.I inquired and you responded with that I must have pushed the 1 click order, what ever that is.I asked for an explanation of what QB2005 was and got no answer, except I should return it for credit.
