Useful product, but still a challenge
I primarily write in VB/VBA -- not at a really advanced level, mostly focused on data management -- and am trying to make the transition to asp.net.So my comments are directed along these lines.
Don't know what is wrong with these bad reviewers?!
I guess the people who wrote all the bad reviews for this product aren't very accomplished visual programmers.One guy said he never even used Visual Studio 2003; what kind of modern programmer has never even tried the main development platform of pcs?What kind of serious programmer never even looks at the latest platform for years and years?? (Visual Studio 2003 has been around for years and was the best platform until 2005).I run an IT dept and VS 2005 will do just about anything any programmer can ask it to do, but many people give up and lash at things without even reading the instructions or knowledge base articles or taking any classes to get caught up on modern technology and methods.VS 2005 isn't perfect but it is the best Windows development platform since Microsoft started making windows.I've been waiting for years for some of the new features that finally came out in this release.

I've been using the MS IDEs since back when it was still called "InterDev" - and I have to say this is the best one yet. Naturally there are some things that are not 100% intuitive to everyone. Not everyone thinks the same way, or develops the same way - so of course some things aren't going to make sense to people. Welcome to life...

Best database software on market - but upgrading is a bummer
FileMaker Pro [FMP] is without a doubt the best and easiest database software for home or small business users -- far easier to learn and use than Microsoft Access, and great flexibility. Constructing a relational database (tying together, for instance, client names, invoices, expenses, etc) is a snap and the Help files really are helpful. Lack of a printed manual [rather than just a scanned file] is a downer.
I can now manage the Web...
When I heard that you could actually insert a Web brower such as IE or Safari right into a database, I was a little skeptical. But after downloading the FileMaker Pro 8.5 free trial and actually doing it, it blew my mind and I purchased the software. I tried doing adding a Web browser to my Access database but I gave up after days of struggling away with a bunch of Active X controls, etc. Now, I just simply add a URL to a the details of a record and I've got updated info on the customers I track in my Marketing Research practice. I can also add just about anything to my database records, video clips, digital photos, sound files and I can send off records to my clients in PDFs or in Excel right out of FileMaker. Very cool! ... Solid product - Great Price
The developer edition, to my surprise, included all of the features for me to develop enterprise level Business Intelligence projects and do some DB design work too.It integrates well with Visual Studio 2005.
Good product, bad install, stupid licensing
You cannot use this product with Visual Web Developer Express.It makes you uninstall VWD(and uninstall then re-install .net 2.0) and once you install SQL 2005 you can't install VWD or any of the express products.
Very Buggy
This edition will be great, once microsoft finishes debugging it! Wait till some service packs come out before committing your critical data.

Nice debugging....poor resource editor
I'm a C++ developer and I bought Visual Studio 2005 to take advantage of the resource editor, since in most other respects the free edition (Visual Studio Express) has many of the same features.I'm sorry to report that the resource editor is practically unusable, and they have yet to patch it as of this writing.
Best Visual Studio Yet
In my opinion, the best Visual Studio version yet. Quick startup with customizable visual settings based on what language programmer you are. I found this very easy to just into .NET 2.0 C# as well as a C++ programmer, and the windows forms designer is very clean and easier to use in my opinion. The layout seems more modern and easier to use, and blends in very well with Windows Vista or Windows XP.

For all developers out there, this is a great purchase.Even if you are a dyed in the wool Microsoft� Visual Studio 6� programmer as I was this is one great improvement.My preferd language is Visual Basic�, and I was worried about the learning curve due to the fact that Microsoft�, has completely changed the way you write Visual Basic� now, but as it turns out there are allot of changes that make writing code easier.Basing everything on the .NET Framework�, in my opinion, was one of the best moves that Microsoft� has made lately.

Really worth the money
I have been fighting with "FREE" tools, and this is the best $44 dollar investment I could have made.It makes working with the (MSDE) Microsoft Desktop SQL Engine very quick.

SQL does work on Windows XP
This Devloper edition is running great on my Windows XP machine with SP2.I have no problems at all with it.It is feature rich and is restircted to a testing enviroment as opposed to a produciton enviroment.Well worth the money!If you need free, Microsoft has other SQL alternatives such as MSDE SQL desktop engine and a downloadble fully functional SQL Express 2005 verison of CTP(community Technology Preview)So many reasons to convert from Sybase there is not room here to list them.

Borland's OK
Its good to have and nice to use, but it is a little confusing unless you read the entire manual. I can't really complain.

Piece of $h|t is what this is!!
Man if you are thinking of buying this well don't especially if you are a beginner or barely going to get your first compiler and if you aren't new to C++ then just stay with that same compiler you own or get another one.
Borland is now dead
I've been a Borland C/C++ programmer since Turbo C 2.0 and for years it's been the best compiler.Not now.I purchased both Borland C++ Builder 6 and Microsoft Visual C++.NET - the Visual C++ box weighed approx 6 times that of Borland's box (and although weight don't make a compiler, it's an indicator of the vendor's features and support).Visual C++ gives you more bang for the buck but I don't like Microsoft's managed .NET direction.Looks like it's time to seek a Linux solution! ... You need other resources
DarkBasic Professional has a nicely written manual and is pretty powerful. If you're looking to make a Quake-like game, you may be dissappointed to find that it does not have a graphics editor or a map editor. Those you are going to have to purchase (or download) separately. It would be nice if there was an OpenSource graphics suite available.

I only have the basic and its good but i've seen this and it has to be the #&@*ing koolest thing you can have right now. I highly recommened it for begginers to experts!

Powerful, easy to use game development
If you're looking to create the next Doom 3 or Half-Life 2, then I can't really recommend this program. If you want to make an advanced FPS game, or a simple pong game, then I can recommend Dark Basic. In fact, Dark Basic Professional is probably capable of creating any kind of game that you can come up with. The catch? You have to program it yourself, all from scratch. Dark Basic makes manipulating 3D data extremely easy, but it's not a game creation package which lets you click and create. If you are determined enough, it's easy to learn all of Dark Basic's commands, as half of programming a game is in the logic. Dark Basic will hardly limit you, and will give you capabilities that were probably impossibly hard for you to use in C++. The end result of creating a game from scratch results in a tremendous sense of satisfaction, especially when you share it with friends and family. Although previous versions of Dark Basic Professional had some hardly crippling bugs, most of them have been eliminated, and with the release of upgrade 6.0, DBPro is a very stable development engine. Overall, I totally recommend this to anyone who wants to create a game, but is determined enough to learn how. ... Read more

Great update
I've been a File Maker user for a long long time (Claris days). This lastest upgrade is fantastic. I programed the databases we use at work for our contacts, calls, quotes, packing lists, RMAs, POs, etc. We have a mix Mac/PC environment and FM fits right in. It's an invaluable tool.
Like a bunch of databases applications, all in one product.
Think you don't need a database?What about for managing customer contacts, sending email campaigns, tracking inventory or handling expense reports? All that stuff is easier when the data is organized as collection of records - or, as a "database."
