Norton 2006 is junk
I've been using Norton products since DOS days.Since Symantec bought Norton, the features that historically made Norton products shine have been steadily disappearing.
Do not buy this software!!!
I had the Norton 2005 antivirus on my computer, so 2006 should be no problem, right?Wrong!!!! After >10 hours of on-line "chats" with tech support I finally was able to load this program and eliminate all the "conflicts".. then I tried to send an e-mail...It would not go.... 3 more hours on line chats (one disconnect after about 1 hour...)... still not working!!! Save yourself the agony!Do not buy this product!!!! It is most definately NOT worth the aggrivation!!!

Good service...when it works.
I've been using Symantec's product since right about 1998-2000. I usually bought a new version every 3 years, and just extending the subscription between the time. I've never had any problem with any Norton Anti Virus...so in 2003 I bought the Internet Security suite. I LOVED that program. It worked flawlessly, didn't use up a lot of resources, and I never had any problems with viruses or "blue screens" or what have you.

Doesn't see my USB Harddrive
I purchased Ghost 10 specifically because of it's claim that it can back up to a separate hard drive through USB. Although I can see my USB HDD in Explorer and in the Computer Management screen and see that everything is working, Ghost 10 doesn't see it in the destination disk drive options.
I can't get it to work at all
There is nothing wrong with my existing hard drive. I am just trying to upgrade to a larger one. Everytime I try to use this program for anything, whether it is for making a disc image or just using some of the utilities, it freezes up right when it starts. The freeze is so deep that mjy whole computer locks up completely and I have to shut it down and restart it again. I have never had any other program make my computer freeze up like that. I'm talking such a deep freeze the mouse pointer freeezes. So deep you can't even CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart. I haven't dealt with stuff like that in about 7 years since I had a much older computer. This product, at least for me, is 100% worthless.

Ghost Recovery will work for some and not work for others
Read the reviews here or on any other Ghost forum and you see the problems so I will not reiterate here. I will say that if you think of buying Ghost 10 or any other back up software, Stop and think before you make that purchase.You can download a trail for FREE. Do that.Run a back up and try to recover and make sure the Recovery is compatible with your hardware. Retest after any hardware change. If you feel comfortable with your product and you like the way it works, then go ahead and buy it. Here are what are argumentatively the top 3 Disk backup software (at least as far as toptenreviews.com writes) and all 3 have a FREE trials. Not for the Faint of Heart
I reluctantly purchased Retrospect Professional 7.5 because I could find no other product with the feature set I wanted. My previous experience with Restrospect Express HD was horrible, so this took a big (or dumb) leap of faith. The bottom line is that this is a powerful product that takes a serious commitment to learn how to use. I read through the nearly 400 page manual three times before I had any real idea of how to use the product effectively. That said, I like the product's flexibility and its incremental backups. So far I have had no crashes, but I was able to restore a crashed coomputer with Retrospect Express without much difficulty (there were other [non]usability issues with that product).
DO NOT USE Retrospect Software!
My group at my company have all purchased Retrospect and we use it to backup our data onto external harddrives. Everything seems to work fine, but when it comes time that your hard drive breaks? Guess what 2 out of the 3 people lost all of there data. Luckily I made a mirror image of the harddrive, which worked, but all of their software that tries to restore the old harddrive onto the new hardware DOES NOT WORK. I had to MANUALLY copy the files that I needed onto the new harddrive. I searched the web for new software, problems or updates but found nothing. Everytime I tried to restore the image of my old harddrive to the new harddrive, it failed with an obscure error message. I had to reinstall Windows XP and all of my other programs on the harddrive I had to manually install. Overall it was about a 2 week process of down time before my laptop was up and working again.
Few good choices for home or small business user

Best $10 i've spent in a long time.
Reading all the negative reviews about Norton's Save and Restore software makes me wonder who is really writing this stuff.
If It's A Norton Product, How Bad Can It Be?
The answer is that it's not a bad product. It's a good product that does what it's supposed to do. After reading the other reviews here I was very hesistant to buy S&R, but it was exactly what I was looking for and I have been very happy with all of Norton's other products. My thinking was "Norton has probably sold millions of these, and chances are all the folks who are happy with the product aren't going to take the time to come here and write a review. Only the people who have had problems, which may have had something to do with their computer and little to do with S&R." So I took a chance, bought the product, and it installed and works flawlessly.

I bought it to move my 40gb drive to a 320gb drive. I'll admit I had a bunch of trouble doing this but after spending an entire afternoon I was able to switch drives. After that I went to conduct a backup but the funny thing is S&R is still reporting my 40gb drive. So being a Release Engineer by trade I uninstalled the proudct, deleted the symantec folder and then checked my registry. Once I thought it was clean enough I reinstalled S&R and it still listed the 40gb drive. This to me suggests the Symantec writes registry entries that can't be removed or modified once there. These registry entries are also hidden and won't come up using the search function.

Great program - IF you're into the Blue Screen of Death!
Installed this on my laptop and it worked great until I had to use the Recovery Disc to restore a backup from DVD.Ghost recorded the DVD using multiple sessions and the Recovery Disc could only read the 1st session; pretty lowsy glitch.Fortunately I had a spare PC to re-record the DVD using single session - albeit manually.Other problem I had with this is that on my main computer in Windows XP SP2, it would always give a BSOD crash every time I tried to use it.The low-level driver wasn't cooperating - even after I removed everything else I could think of.Bottom line: this is NOT worth the money.The features are great and it has potential - but only when it works.I'm going to try something else.

Ghost 9 was supposed to be an improvement?When you try to clone your boot drive it will copy everything but it will re-assign your system folder to the drive letter that windows has assigned to it. Making the new drive useless, of course. Their website is NO help and their support people can't even read the manual they were given.
Could not even get to install the product
I got Ghost 9.0 included with Norton Internet Security 2005. I'm usually a very big fan of Norton products, however this time, I got quite a few headaches.

Great insurance policy
I have a 30 gig ipod that is full of music.It took countless hours to burn all my Cd's and transfer the files to my player.I have very little room on my PCs hard drive, so after transferring the files I had to delete them from my PC.I recently bought an external hard drive and with this product it was very quick and easy to back up my ipod to my new hard drive.I can now rest easy knowing that I will never need to burn all my Cd's ever again.Great Product!

I'm planning on suing Symantec in small claims court over this
This product destroyed over 40+G on my third internal drive when I loaded it.There was no reason for it to even access that drive, but it retooled it and left my other 2 drives alone.It cost me $500 to try to repair the drive and eventually I replaced it.I have that drive sitting in a box, waiting until I have $2000 to have it "slow read" to see if I can get the data back.This product is a nightmare and I intend on making Symantec pay for the money out of my pocket.No amount could ever pay for the data that I lost, which was all family photos and videos.This program is a disaster.

suspicions confirmed!
I'm rating GoBack two stars because I've used it for years, and it saved my bacon many's the time. However, it seems that Roxio sold its best product to Norton, and to judge by the reviews on Amazon, the result was a disaster. I'm ready to believe them because Norton SystemWorks destroyed my computer a few years ago: once SystemWorks was installed, it became so unstable that I could no longer use it. Since there was stuff on there that I valued, I bought a new computer and laboriously moved everything over by using 3.5 inch diskettes. Then I F-disked the old computer, reintstalled Windows 98, and gave it to my daughter, who has used it ever since.
If go back rating had a 0, that's what I would put!
I just re-installed my system works, and this time I decided to use the whole program including go-back. Now I am stuck in this twilite zone loop! I can not see my main drive, all I see is the go back window and do you want to reboot.

Great software - excellent customer service
Prosoft has made it very simple to do backups.The program's manual is easily read.If you have questions their online help service is quick, and if that is not sufficient, I found their telephone assistance was flawless and very knowledgable.
Does not do incremental backups
Began failing on incremental backups in September of 2005 (at OS version 10.3.?), worked before that.Also fails on 10.4.0-10.4.6.Always gives the same error message - indicating a programming error. Prosoft has offered no help after many attempts over a 9 month period.

We gave it our best shot. So did their techs during a phone call and two emails. They thought my Anti-virus sofware was to blame.

Giant Disappointment
'Bought it, and sent it back for a refund.I should have believed all of the negative reviews that Retrospect received (on the Amazon site).I am a skilled personal computer user who has installed and successfully operated a large amount of both software and hardware.However, I was unsuccessful at getting Retrospect to perform properly.My rating of Retrospect is "Junk".Worse yet, I could not find a Help Line telephone number to talk with a real person - that might have made a big difference.They want you to use their website for ALL problem solving.Well think of this: if their instructions included in their big manual didn't work in the first place, why would you expect the website to work?They ought to be paying me for time lost and shipping charges.

A bad thing to start
If you're not already a user, Retrospect for Mac is not a product you want to buy into. The interface hasn't been substantially updated in over a decade. In this decade Dantz (EMC) has charged it's users half a dozen times for "upgrades" which should be free updates as all that was added was the ability to actually work with the current operating system.
Shameful Marketing, Manual Writing and Software Design
Over the past two months I've tried to get this software to create two sets of incremental backups of a Mac on two USB2 hard disks.Despite more than 20 years experience with computers, and a successful installation of Norton Ghost 9.0 backup software on a PC, I have not been able to get dantz Retrospect Backup 6.0 Desktop Macintosh to work on my system.I'm sure that a dantz(TM) engineer could sit down in front of the Mac, execute a dozen or so commands and get it to work properly, but that would not in any way prove that Retrospect Backup 6.0 is an acceptable product.The problem of this, and many other software packages, is that there are a huge number of combinations of optional settings that don't work, so if the errors are intermittant, it can take years to debug without proper guidance from the designers.The Retrospect Backup 6.0 backup manual is at least six times thicker than the manual that came with first MacIntosh computers.Its content usefulness is next to zero.The same can be said for the usefulness of the online help menus.The consumer expectation for a desktop backup solution is a single button guiding you through menus and getting the setup done and verified in five minutes.With so much easy-to-use and intuitive Mac and PC software available today, it is next to criminal for the dantz(TM) marketing materials to claim ease of use, especially software written for Mac, where the ease-of-use standard is very high.I recommend that people never buy any dantz(TM) software product.If the CEO feels otherwise, I'd like to hear his/her case and I may reconsider.When they call I will only charge two dollars per minute. ... Powerful, easy-to-use backup solution
PC Backup is great.I've decided to stay away from all Norton products after Norton System Works completely destroyed my registry.A co-worker recommended Stompsoft's PC Backup as an alternative to Norton Ghost and it's been a joy to use.I've had two hard drive crashes in the last 6-7 months and I've been able to restore the system to exactly the way it was each time.Turns out we had a defective hard drive.
Great Software -- Never Had A Problem
I sympathize that some people here have had frustration with an aspect of the software, but I honestly have to say that I cannot relate at all to what they're saying. I've been using StompSoft PC BackUp for quite some time now and I've never had a single issue with the software. It does everything it's supposed to and never crashed my system. It does take about five or ten minutes to finish the backup, but I do have a lot of stuff on my computer so I'm not surprised. Based on my personal experience, I would highly recommend using StompSoft's PC BackUp.

I made the mistake of reading online reviews, but not actual user experiences that were posted here and purchased this software.It takes this software literally DAYS to back up a mere 40 gigs.And other users are correct about Stompsoft's absolute travesty of a customer support system both online and on phone.None of my emails have been answered, and I actually stayed on hold for TWO HOURS and got no answer.

WOW, I can't believe I didn't read the reviews before I opened the box.
Doesnt' work
This software doesn't work at all. I had 3 partitions on my hard drive and accidentally erased 2 partitions. This software was only able to "see" the files on the unerased partition and couldn't recover the other 2 erased partitions. I had better luck with R-studio recovery software and was able to recover 100% of my lost data!

Earns a 0 star rating. Save your money.
Beware! This program is software snake oil. The description and sales materials make Search and Recover sound like it can recover everything. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to all the hype. I tried to recover files from a hard drive, a Secure Digital card, and USB thumb drive, and nothing worked!
