Not for the Faint of Heart
I reluctantly purchased Retrospect Professional 7.5 because I could find no other product with the feature set I wanted. My previous experience with Restrospect Express HD was horrible, so this took a big (or dumb) leap of faith. The bottom line is that this is a powerful product that takes a serious commitment to learn how to use. I read through the nearly 400 page manual three times before I had any real idea of how to use the product effectively. That said, I like the product's flexibility and its incremental backups. So far I have had no crashes, but I was able to restore a crashed coomputer with Retrospect Express without much difficulty (there were other [non]usability issues with that product).
DO NOT USE Retrospect Software!
My group at my company have all purchased Retrospect and we use it to backup our data onto external harddrives. Everything seems to work fine, but when it comes time that your hard drive breaks? Guess what 2 out of the 3 people lost all of there data. Luckily I made a mirror image of the harddrive, which worked, but all of their software that tries to restore the old harddrive onto the new hardware DOES NOT WORK. I had to MANUALLY copy the files that I needed onto the new harddrive. I searched the web for new software, problems or updates but found nothing. Everytime I tried to restore the image of my old harddrive to the new harddrive, it failed with an obscure error message. I had to reinstall Windows XP and all of my other programs on the harddrive I had to manually install. Overall it was about a 2 week process of down time before my laptop was up and working again.
Few good choices for home or small business user

Great Product
I like to keep my computer well maintained to prevent the usual slow down over time.
Diskeeper 10 is a Ten in my Book
I am so happy that I purchased Diskeeper 10. It runs in the background and I am totally defragged in 27 minutes instead of 3 to 4 hours with other products that I used. The 'Set It and Forget It' feature is fantastic. It does just that - you set it up as to when you may want to defrag or set it at 'continuous' and it does it while you work. Your first defrag will take awhile but thereafter its' a breeze. Don't be put off by FragShield. I called Diskeeper after reading the problem that one reviewer had and they fully explained what it was and said if I decide to use it and am not sure of what to do, just call them back. You can also follow the procedure outlined by Scott L. Sutherland, one of the other reviewers.

Great program - IF you're into the Blue Screen of Death!
Installed this on my laptop and it worked great until I had to use the Recovery Disc to restore a backup from DVD.Ghost recorded the DVD using multiple sessions and the Recovery Disc could only read the 1st session; pretty lowsy glitch.Fortunately I had a spare PC to re-record the DVD using single session - albeit manually.Other problem I had with this is that on my main computer in Windows XP SP2, it would always give a BSOD crash every time I tried to use it.The low-level driver wasn't cooperating - even after I removed everything else I could think of.Bottom line: this is NOT worth the money.The features are great and it has potential - but only when it works.I'm going to try something else.

Ghost 9 was supposed to be an improvement?When you try to clone your boot drive it will copy everything but it will re-assign your system folder to the drive letter that windows has assigned to it. Making the new drive useless, of course. Their website is NO help and their support people can't even read the manual they were given.
Could not even get to install the product
I got Ghost 9.0 included with Norton Internet Security 2005. I'm usually a very big fan of Norton products, however this time, I got quite a few headaches.

So, to help those of us who are shopping for a program, would it be possible for everyone at the beginning of their review to include the following info: Computer manufacturer, model number, processor, and year of purchase? Maybe that way, we could start to see some trends for which computers work well with certain programs.thanks

Does a good job of cleaning but hurts performance
About a month ago I installed System Mechanic 6 after picking it up on sale at Costco - went with a PC World review that this program is the second-best on the market.
Like blue screens? Then this one's for you!
Usually mechanics fix things. In the case of System Mechanic 6 the idea seems to be to un-fix things. This software is buggier than a bait store and a waste of cash at best. At worst it's a system destroyer.

Wipe Capability
You can't wipe just the free space on a partition or drive with this.It will only wipe the entire partition or disk.

Software does the job and has great technical support
I purchased this software to purge the hard drives of several laptops. They were older model laptops with widely varying configurations, so I ran into some problems. I sent an e-mail to the support e-mail address and received a response almost immediately. The technical support that I received was absolutely first rate and the issues that I ran into were resolved in very quick order. I am very pleased with my purchase of this product.

I'm planning on suing Symantec in small claims court over this
This product destroyed over 40+G on my third internal drive when I loaded it.There was no reason for it to even access that drive, but it retooled it and left my other 2 drives alone.It cost me $500 to try to repair the drive and eventually I replaced it.I have that drive sitting in a box, waiting until I have $2000 to have it "slow read" to see if I can get the data back.This product is a nightmare and I intend on making Symantec pay for the money out of my pocket.No amount could ever pay for the data that I lost, which was all family photos and videos.This program is a disaster.

suspicions confirmed!
I'm rating GoBack two stars because I've used it for years, and it saved my bacon many's the time. However, it seems that Roxio sold its best product to Norton, and to judge by the reviews on Amazon, the result was a disaster. I'm ready to believe them because Norton SystemWorks destroyed my computer a few years ago: once SystemWorks was installed, it became so unstable that I could no longer use it. Since there was stuff on there that I valued, I bought a new computer and laboriously moved everything over by using 3.5 inch diskettes. Then I F-disked the old computer, reintstalled Windows 98, and gave it to my daughter, who has used it ever since.
If go back rating had a 0, that's what I would put!
I just re-installed my system works, and this time I decided to use the whole program including go-back. Now I am stuck in this twilite zone loop! I can not see my main drive, all I see is the go back window and do you want to reboot.

Excellent product if you have XP Professional
This is the better utility software I ever used. The other I used was Norton Systemworks 2006. Systemworks slowed me down too much and were not even 100% compatible with its earlier version of internet security. I don't think systemworks works for me any way. By comparison, System Mechanic 6 does do a much much better job.It makes my computer run faster and so easy and fast to install and I like it a lot. I will recommend whoever wants to buy a similar product to go to the manufacture's website and try it to test if it works for your machine. For those who don't have time to do the test, I suggest you buy SM6.

If you like to have some control over your PC ...
This is not the product!System Mechanic 6 attempts to automate maintenance decisions, but the user is unable to tell what decisions / changes are made.When BAD changes are made, it is practically impossible to diagnose what went wrong.In my experience, it makes MANY bad decisions and the only recourse is to reverse the changes made. Sometimes this is not easy and it takes some clever manipulation at boot time, etc.This software is not recommended. ... Read more

Don't Waste Your Money!
My experience with this product was COMPLETELY NEGATIVE. It did NOT erase the hard drive data- instead it erased the Windows operating system.The data was still on the hard drive, but the computer could not be started again.To dispose of the computer I had to remove the hard drive from the machine and destroy it with a sledge hammer.I did not need useless software to destroy the drive.this software does not work and causes additional damage to the computer.

I decided to donate my old computer to my son's high school. I began investigating software I could use to make sure all of my personal files were not recoverable even after I formatted the drive. Works great for me.
I use this program religiously on an iMac G5 with 10.4 and a Dual G4 tower running OS 9.I highly recommend this product!

Don't buy...should be withdrawn from the market!
This product doesn't work with OS X 10.4 (Tiger), and Norton states at their website that they won't be updating it.Unfortunately, the only indication that the thing doesn't work with Tiger is in the fine print on the box stating that it requires OS X 10.1 to 10.3.Since people often don't check the system requirements unless they're concerned with backward compatibility (not current compatibility), many Tiger users, like me, will probably buy this without realizing it won't work.I found out the hard way when I installed it and experienced a ton of problems.I didn't realize there was a compatibility issue until I went to the Symantec support website, where the compatibility and upgrade issues are prominently displayed.Too bad they couldn't mention those on the box.Now I'm stuck with a $140 white elephant since the store won't accept returns of opened software.

Great grahpics!
This game is very much compilcated because of its walking feature.Its a shooting game which you have to distroy several bosses. I have a Pentium3 500Mhz, 64MB RAM with a Rage ATI Video Card, and an Xpert 128 Game engine.Ite kind of adventurous but a back viewed format.It's up to 2 players andsort of an arcade version type of thing. good Software for most Computers ...
I worked with the Fix It Utilities 5.0 on my old Computer and now with my new Laptop. Fix It Utilities can find much more than Norton or Advanced System Optimizer and it keeps your registry clean. I know that my friend is also very contented. But one other friend of mine had that case where it was like in L. Young description. It happens in his case when you run FixUp "Diagnose and fix system problems" and it suddenly stops in the middle of the procedure the whole program without a message or anything. I would have given the Software 5 stars otherwise ...

Been with Fix-it utilities since.3.0 This is the best especially for Windows xp. The all in one wizard is excellent.Start it and then go do what you need to do.Check in later and marvel at what it got rid of safely on your computer.

COASTER MAKER
When I searched the Amazon site for Adaptec software, I was reacting to the abysmal performance of the CD writer that comes with the ver 7.01 Windows Media Player.I thought, why is the company displaying such a large ad to upgrade to the Deluxe product.I still have no clue.I own two other CD burning products, which unfortunately do not convert from Microsoft's WMA file format.Adaptec's software is horribly buggy.My error rate on over 30 CDs was about 35%.That's correct: one of three CD writes failed.The first couple of writes, I thought, might be the result of other software interfering.So, I closed ever single program under Windows 98SE except Explorer and Systray, and still obtained this awful success rate.I can only conclude that Adaptec thinks that we are a bunch of fools who think that paying them [price] for an ungrade will magically make their software perform where it was not capable before.As for support, read the review below and believe it.

Was a good product, but now is obsolete
I used EZ-SCSI 5.0 with WIN98 to make backups of hard disk to tapes. Then I upgraded Windows to WIN ME and EZ-SCSI backup stopped working. I called the Adaptec company tech support. They told me that they do not support it under WIN ME. So now I have about fifthy backup tapes that I can use as paper weight. Based on it, I recommend against EZ-SCSI.
