1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
As a user of this and other Norton products and as a tech-support professional, I must tell you that the bad reviews are true. I used to be a big fan of Norton products until recently.
1-0 out of 5 stars Junk - Symantec should be ashamed
Search for Amazon item number 10099566 to see an overwhelming number of bad reviews of Norton AntiSpam 2004.They didn't improve the product much in the 2005 version. It is really disgusting that Symantec has leveraged the Norton brand, formerly known for quality, with the cynical money grab that is Norton AntiSpam.Absolute junk software, with comically bad support.I hope to see a class action lawsuit against Symantec for selling this product that they certainly know is defective in a myriad of ways.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth Buying
I purchased the Norton Internet Security with the Norton Antispam hoping that it would eventualy solve my ever increasing amounts of spam in my inbox

1-0 out of 5 stars Great program - IF you're into the Blue Screen of Death!
Installed this on my laptop and it worked great until I had to use the Recovery Disc to restore a backup from DVD.Ghost recorded the DVD using multiple sessions and the Recovery Disc could only read the 1st session; pretty lowsy glitch.Fortunately I had a spare PC to re-record the DVD using single session - albeit manually.Other problem I had with this is that on my main computer in Windows XP SP2, it would always give a BSOD crash every time I tried to use it.The low-level driver wasn't cooperating - even after I removed everything else I could think of.Bottom line: this is NOT worth the money. The features are great and it has potential - but only when it works.I'm going to try something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars I might as well flushed my $$$
Ghost 9 was supposed to be an improvement? When you try to clone your boot drive it will copy everything but it will re-assign your system folder to the drive letter that windows has assigned to it. Making the new drive useless, of course. Their website is NO help and their support people can't even read the manual they were given.
1-0 out of 5 stars Could not even get to install the product
I got Ghost 9.0 included with Norton Internet Security 2005. I'm usually a very big fan of Norton products, however this time, I got quite a few headaches.

1-0 out of 5 stars For users who write reviews.....
All of us appreciate those of you who take the time to write your reviews. What's become clear is that many programs function differently depending on what kind of computer you're using. So, to help those of us who are shopping for a program, would it be possible for everyone at the beginning of their review to include the following info: Computer manufacturer, model number, processor, and year of purchase? Maybe that way, we could start to see some trends for which computers work well with certain programs.thanks

2-0 out of 5 stars Does a good job of cleaning but hurts performance
About a month ago I installed System Mechanic 6 after picking it up on sale at Costco - went with a PC World review that this program is the second-best on the market.
1-0 out of 5 stars Like blue screens? Then this one's for you!
Usually mechanics fix things. In the case of System Mechanic 6 the idea seems to be to un-fix things. This software is buggier than a bait store and a waste of cash at best. At worst it's a system destroyer.

2-0 out of 5 stars No longer supported
I have to say that I have loved this product when I initially purchased it as part of a package in 2004.BUT - it just recently crashed and I was told by Symantec (after much time on the website & on hold on the phone) that they are no longer supporting this software!Since I have been a "good" computer user and backed up all my info I was assuming there should be some way to get back this information - WRONG.The only thing they said I could do was try to reinstall the program, but since I initially purchased it as a download only, I no longer was able to do that...
5-0 out of 5 stars Works great, even with a bug
I have this and love it. I have all my passwords on a sheet of paper in my safe incase I ever need to really "see" them.
1-0 out of 5 stars Symantec is on the skids...
I bought Password Manager when it was first released and was very satisfied with it. But then came the crashes and its unwillingness to start up correctly (e.g., the Sign In dialog would not display on reboot). After years of uninstalling and reinstalling Password Mangler to fix its variety of issues -- always having to go back to the original installation CD and work _up_ from there -- and struggling with Symantec's obscure and unhelpful Web site (and their obscure and unhelpful off-shore technical support), I'm giving up on it.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm planning on suing Symantec in small claims court over this
This product destroyed over 40+G on my third internal drive when I loaded it.There was no reason for it to even access that drive, but it retooled it and left my other 2 drives alone. It cost me $500 to try to repair the drive and eventually I replaced it.I have that drive sitting in a box, waiting until I have $2000 to have it "slow read" to see if I can get the data back. This product is a nightmare and I intend on making Symantec pay for the money out of my pocket. No amount could ever pay for the data that I lost, which was all family photos and videos. This program is a disaster.

2-0 out of 5 stars suspicions confirmed!
I'm rating GoBack two stars because I've used it for years, and it saved my bacon many's the time. However, it seems that Roxio sold its best product to Norton, and to judge by the reviews on Amazon, the result was a disaster. I'm ready to believe them because Norton SystemWorks destroyed my computer a few years ago: once SystemWorks was installed, it became so unstable that I could no longer use it. Since there was stuff on there that I valued, I bought a new computer and laboriously moved everything over by using 3.5 inch diskettes. Then I F-disked the old computer, reintstalled Windows 98, and gave it to my daughter, who has used it ever since.
1-0 out of 5 stars If go back rating had a 0, that's what I would put!
I just re-installed my system works, and this time I decided to use the whole program including go-back. Now I am stuck in this twilite zone loop! I can not see my main drive, all I see is the go back window and do you want to reboot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product if you have XP Professional
This is the better utility software I ever used. The other I used was Norton Systemworks 2006. Systemworks slowed me down too much and were not even 100% compatible with its earlier version of internet security. I don't think systemworks works for me any way. By comparison, System Mechanic 6 does do a much much better job.It makes my computer run faster and so easy and fast to install and I like it a lot. I will recommend whoever wants to buy a similar product to go to the manufacture's website and try it to test if it works for your machine. For those who don't have time to do the test, I suggest you buy SM6.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Product should be sued for waste Customer time!
I would give a nagtive -100 score if there is.
1-0 out of 5 stars If you like to have some control over your PC ...
This is not the product!System Mechanic 6 attempts to automate maintenance decisions, but the user is unable to tell what decisions / changes are made. When BAD changes are made, it is practically impossible to diagnose what went wrong. In my experience, it makes MANY bad decisions and the only recourse is to reverse the changes made. Sometimes this is not easy and it takes some clever manipulation at boot time, etc. This software is not recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars V-Com
Although I have not used System Commander 8.0, I did feel the need to comment about V-Com and there Tech Support.
3-0 out of 5 stars DOS Skills Were Essential
Interesting comments here about Sys Cmdr.. Perhaps my comments won't be accepted cuz they relate to an earlier version (5) but I think I can offer some insight. But first, let's remember that this is Amazon.com, and Amazon should not be tarnished cuz of some software company that can't get their act together. Amazon is okie-dokie with me. No gripe whatever.... I came here looking for info about this newer ver 8. I'm currently a ver. 5 user of Sys Cmdr. I will agree with others who state that V-Comm is bad on customer service. They are horrible. One fellow said "non-existent" I'll agree on that. However, I wonder about the bug reports. I would think vers. 8 to be less buggy than vers. 5. What many might think to be bugs is the way you go about things. Sys Cmdr is an animal one must "get acquainted with". If I hadn't learned my DOS, I would say I would've just thrown in the towel. I know, they don't publicize that, and this is not the best marketing, but being able to get down dirty in the DOS mud really helps. I've never tried to use Sys Cmdr installed to ANY version of Windows, only DOS 6.22. The only nasty bug I can complain of is when you have a partition with lots of data inside, Sys Cmdr will report "you're out of memory- cannot complete blah blah operation..." But that is not the end of the world. There is a way around this, if you think for a minute. But as for copying partitions- let's say, your startup, day-to-day partition, to a backup hard drive, ( 2nd hard drive), which is a mighty good idea before installing a new program, who's behavior is not known, Sys Cmdr will do the job. And if that new prog bombs out, you can just delete the screwed up partition on the boot drive and then COPY BACK the backup to the boot drive. This sounds like Windows Roll Back procedure, but it's better, much better. If you want a separate partition to run your favorite game, you can use Sys Cmdr to boot to just this partition, or boot to your Internet partition. I don't see a problem with the product once you know how this animal lives and breathes. I did bump the RESET button twice, rapidly (by mistake) one day, and soon discovered all my partitions were gone. How much of this do we blame to Sys Cmdr, and how much to the motherboard? Who knows. I've seen strange things happen. So I guess my big gripe is, V-Comm treats customers with little or no respect, and they don't have common sense in laying out the product or the instructions, but for those with that junk yard dog attitude, that just refuse to give up until their leg is eaten away, Sys Cmdr can be used to great advantage. When I migrated to Win 98se from the Macintosh 7 years ago, I would never have made it without Sys Cmdr version 5. It's a program that requires patience. One gentleman here said "read the book". He's right about that, even tho it's convoluted. The info is in there. You just gotta let it soak in. Once you see how it goes together, you'll learn to love Sys Cmdr, and at the same time, despise the stooges that produce it. The advantage of Sys Cmdr 8 is it allows use with Xp. One comment here gave the product the devil related to DOS. This man must be doing something wrong, because DOS is the simplest way to get Sys Cmdr running, the easiest of all.Sorry if this is too long. Delete if unacceptable. Hope this helps someone.

This is a very wimpy program. The concept is cute and my son would have benefited from it, but the program kept crashing. The directions say that the setup program is supposed to run so that you can save it to your hard drive, but there is no setup program. It just runs off the disk.I don't know if that is why the program kept crashing, but I know that when I went to the TOPICS Entertainment (the manufacturer) website, they told me to reinstall it.It won't install, so how can I reinstall it?It was a waste of money and now I have to buy another, more expensive program. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Works great for me.
I use this program religiously on an iMac G5 with 10.4 and a Dual G4 tower running OS 9.I highly recommend this product!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy...should be withdrawn from the market!
This product doesn't work with OS X 10.4 (Tiger), and Norton states at their website that they won't be updating it.Unfortunately, the only indication that the thing doesn't work with Tiger is in the fine print on the box stating that it requires OS X 10.1 to 10.3.Since people often don't check the system requirements unless they're concerned with backward compatibility (not current compatibility), many Tiger users, like me, will probably buy this without realizing it won't work.I found out the hard way when I installed it and experienced a ton of problems.I didn't realize there was a compatibility issue until I went to the Symantec support website, where the compatibility and upgrade issues are prominently displayed.Too bad they couldn't mention those on the box.Now I'm stuck with a $140 white elephant since the store won't accept returns of opened software.

1-0 out of 5 stars Only works with Microsoft e-mail clients
If you are security minded and choose to use an e-mail client like Thunderbird or the bundled Opera e-mail client this program will NOT protect you!Not only that, but the fact that CA Anti-virus will ONLY work with MS Outlook or Outlook Express is not revealed in any documentation.I found this out the hard way when a manual scan found a virus in my Opera mail folder and couldn't clean or quarantine it!The CA tech confirmed that the AV program only works with MS e-mail clients. To me this is false advertising!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars EZ Trust... well, it's half right.
Yes, it's easy to install, configure and use. The footprint is small and it doesn't hog resources. That's the good news. The bad news is that this software's virus detection rate is abysmal and the company's tech support is worse. So, in short, don't *trust* it.
4-0 out of 5 stars WoW!
I just finished writing a review for eTrust's Internet Security package after I saw the unbelievable amount of negative responses. I will not go back to Norton or Mcafee unless the mimic CA's design and usefullness. I am on my second year with this program and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. It is does not bog my system down like the "other" two nor did it take a lot of space (space was not a issue for me but it helps keep the system running smoothly). Again, this program is great and I definitly recommmend it! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work.
All I can say is that it didn't work for the files on my Lacie D2 Big Disk.I had over 250 gb of irreplaceable data on my problem drive, and Data Rescue X couldn't retrieve any of it.It might work on certain types of drives but it didn't work on mine, so I cannot recommend it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bacon Saver
I had a drive fail to the point that it would not mount, and the various Mac OS disk utilities (Disk Utility, fsck, etc.) and DiskWarrior wouldn't touch it.Data Rescue was able to access the drive at the device level, extract my files, and save the day.Very much worth the money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless in my situation
I lost everything on my desktop, which is to say 90 percent of the information I had stored on my 3-month-old iMac G5.

1-0 out of 5 stars A disaster in a Box
This is the biggest rip-off in security software. You might as well throw your money out the car window on the way to the store and save yourself the aggravation. Virus definitions do not update and keep giving errors in the update process. Anti-virus keeps scanning the floppy drive whenever it feels like. Poor interface with the computer user. Constant conflicts in the various programs included in the suite. Causes system conflicts in Windows XP. Trying to remove it will make your computer unstable and hard to launch other applications. The worst software in the utility business. I would like to return this junk personally to the people that market this junk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Everything Okay so far
Actually....www.GuardianPrograms.com DOES exist. Visited it myself. And the Security Suite DOES offer on-line virus definition updates, although only time will tell how effective the updates are. In the meantime, the worm-killer and anti-virus monitors are up and running on both web and e-mail applications.

Editorial Review

Beginning with the release of Windows 95, Microsoft has made a habit of augmenting each new operating system with an add-on package of assorted enhancements and goodies. The latest such supplement to come to market is Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP, a collection of graphic and audio utilities, rudimentary games, screen savers, and desktop themes specifically designed for users of Microsoft's latest and most robust OS. But whereas the Windows 95 and Windows 98 Plus! editions blended several genuinely useful applications such as disk management tools and virus checkers with the usual stable of multimedia tweaks, Plus! for Windows XP offers more fluff than substance. I don't get this, in Plus 98 you get a whole bunch of themes and other stuff - in Plus XP you get nothing - well you get a couple of thems!I cannot believe I paid for this - I uninstalled this and returned it for store credit - this is not worth $19.99 or $12.99 it is worth $1.99 - if you want some more themes for Windows XP look around on the internet for FREE ones and save your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific For Getting Your Old Records On Cds Or In Your iPod!
This is not the most current version of this software; but since it's probably still being sold new in places like eBay, I thought I'd still do a review. I bought this years ago to convert my records to CDs, but just ended up using it this year. I got a terrific Audio-Technica turntable for Christmas that plugs in easily to my PC.This is the software I'm using to convert the records. It is VERY easy to use, and has VERY easy instructions. The only one problem I had is that sometimes the hiss reduction feature will not be available if the software can't detect the spaces between the songs on an album, or if you are playing a 45. You then have to go back to the recording page, and record the blank area at the end of the record. And believe me, you don't want to leave out either the pop or hiss clean up! It's unbelievable how well they both clean up the record. (And I find this software far easier to use than the Nero that came with my Sony CD/DVD burner.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun at a great value
Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition is not something necessary for the enjoyment of life, but, then, neither is a computer, a cell phone, or a TV, unless you are a diehard couch potato. What this collection of utilities does is add some fun to Windows XP, and it's stuff no other operating system enjoys.I personally use Photo Story and Analog Recorder often, because they are both easy to use and a blast to use, too.The games collection could have been better, but, hey, for a little over ten bucks, why complain? ...
