Editorial Review

Voyetra's Teach Me Piano is an excellent choice for the beginning or intermediate piano student. With a slick, intuitive, and highly graphical interface and several dozen musically intelligent piano lessons, this CD-ROM makes it fun and easy to learn music with any MIDI-compatible keyboard or piano. A standout feature here is the highly effective interface, which sports a visual music room with the piano--and uses piano keys themselves to reach major program features. (Younger users should be able to learn to click on the right objects to get going.)The heart of this title features over 60 lessons, including the fundamentals of reading music and solid, beginning piano technique. You'll learn basic fingerings, scales, intervals, and the essentials of music notation. A library of some 75 songs--including traditional and folk tunes, with plenty of short classical pieces in a good range of difficulty--gives you something to practice. The best thing about the instruction has to be the videos that illustrate proper pianistic technique. A piano expert shows you all the correct positions and fingerings in real-time and full-motion video with sound. It's just the sort of thing that can lead to good habits for new players. As you go forward in the lessons here, you'll master playing in musical keys with up to three sharps or flats. The songbook feature breaks out your library of tunes, which you can work on separately outside of the lesson format. You can search for pieces by genre, composer, and level of difficulty.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Just started using it
Obviously, installation woes. I expect it to be very buggy, it looks like it's made with some kind of demo-making SW rather than coded from scratch. Could not get it to work under Windows XP on an AMD setup (Athlon XP/Asus MB/Audigy), works fine so far under Windows XP on a P4 setup (Dell 8300 w/SB5.1). Looks like, as of 2004, most of the Piano Teaching SW programs out there that use a MIDI KB are obsolete, there's this one, Piano Suite, and eMedia Piano & Keyboard left? Those are both twice as expensive. Can somebody compare them? I see that the Piano Suite people are suppressing some bad reviews with their lawyers and it might be as old as this one (XP isn't mentioned in the OS list), and I see that the emedia one is the same company as a very well reviewed guitar program and is brand spanking new and modern (mentions OSX 10.2 in the mac version and XP for PC), but I haven't seen many reviews. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great introductory piano lessons
I am in my mid thirties and I had never played a musical instrument in my entire life. Two weeks after installing the software I am well on my way to playing my first complete song by devoting about 45 minutes every day to the lessons. Great software, and it does work fine on Windows XP and the MIDI interface of a Sound Blaster card.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with Windows XP
Beware!!You cant use this program if you have or upgrade to Windows XP! Voyettra website states that ther is no patch or download available. But, they do recommend spending the extra 29.00 to upgrade to the "Deluxe" version so that you can use it in XP.This is from their website... "If you're using Windows XP we would recommend upgrading to "Teach Me Piano Deluxe" on our website:"Very poor customer support. I guess Ill be buying software from another company from now on. ... A frustrating, counter-intuitive, and unnecessarily difficult program. The people at this company are very knowledgeable about music; they just need to hire a software designer and some support people. Here's my first-hand example of what to expect:

5-0 out of 5 stars Good thing I didn't read these reviews before I bought...
I was in Pinnacle hell after I finished a week's worth of video-editing for my wife's upcoming birthday--I was creating a DVD for her when the program started randomly deleting some of my video and photo clips and seizing my brand new, dual processor computer. I've also used Nero, but we all know that crappy software limits you to 99 media objects per slideshow and doesn't allow you to combine video and photo together.I broke down and returned to Best Buy for my no-kidding last try at a reasonable software package. Well, Movie Edit was the only other thing they had!I was really nervious, mainly because of the price. If Pinnacle can sell their TRASH for $100, then I must be getting absolute junk for $50 in Movie Edit Pro 10.I couldn't have been more wrong. Compared the 3 editing softwares mentioned here, this is the EASIEST software to use, has more CAPABILITIES (16 tracks!), and costs just a fraction than the rest. During my week in hell with Pinnacle, my system seized at least 17 times. I've already made 2 DVDs with this software (approx 10-15 minutes in length) and still have yet to seize my computer. I love how any object can be placed anywhere on the timeline tracks--this makes it SO easy to create awesome-looking movies. Furthermore, it didn't take me very long to get used to the functionality -- everything seems much more user-friendly than Pinnacle.AND it doesn't bog your system down. I'm working on DVDs, but I still have a bunch of other programs open at the same time. Even more: while Nero took in excess of 70-80 minutes to burn my previous 5-minute DVDs (Pinnacle only crashed my system every time I tried it), Movie Edit only took about 18 minutes to burn a 15-minute DVD. What a difference! Movie Edit saved me--I can't wait for my wife's birthday--I know she's going to be very happy, too!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware of Tech issues
One of the best editing programs but BEWARE if you plan on making home movies over 20 min. you will more than likely run into crashes...I have used this program on two computers, one is a $3000 machine with a 4400 processor...still crashes.

4-0 out of 5 stars great for the price!
I have tried them all almost, ulead, pinnacle, sony vegas, but for some reason i keep coming back to magix. Its easy to use it you have the time gives you more then enough effects has both storyboard and timeline view, and is super cheap! The only thing is that if you have an AMD cpu like me you need to download a patch from there web page and it can be hard to find. other wise its pretty solid and rarely crashes. For the price its a great buy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You Make What You Like--If It Runs
I love this software!Wouldn't believe me if I told you that I saw this in a store for 10 bucks over two years ago! Heck, it's probably even less than that now.
4-0 out of 5 stars Grest!Even for music-maker newbies.
MTV Music Maker is fantastic! it is the best music software program on the market (even better than acid and a lot of other expensive programs). With it you can use a large collection of fantastic previous made loops, or--once your more advanced--you can make loops of your own!you can add tons of funky effects and make an endless about of groovy tunes. . .1-0 out of 5 stars cannot get software to run
I had written a previous review about being unable to install the software with any version of directx higher than version 7. As it turns out, their customer service rep told me how to get past the directx error that would prevent installation. After that however, the program would not run. Have been communicating with the customer rep for several days. According to the info on the jewelcase, ATI Rage Pro chipsets, (what I'm running), are supported. Still the program will not run. Customer service has tried to get it to run, and they did reply promptly, but at this time I can only give this program 1 star, as IMO, a well written program should not fail to run when it's requirements are met. This program did run at one time on my computer, the only two things that have changed on my machine is the Directx version, and the video,(turned off the integrated graphics and installed a video card). It is a good program, to bad it will no longerrun. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Using Guitar Pro 5.0
Guitar Pro is great, Yes I agree it needs a manual to do it justic but the capability of the software gives you a wide range of abilities that are on the mark.My problem is finding music that has been converted to the GP5 format.I found a site that was selling a learning method that has of all things a stack of gp3, gp4 format music that I can run on the gp5 format and save as gp5.It is great.Once you remove alot of the distoration guitars and use the clear sounds it gives you great music to learn from. You can slow down and step through the notes or the kord positons.Tabs are wonderful and easy to watch. If you have Guitar Pro give it another try.If you are looking for a great package then here it is.What we need to do is pool our talent in using the sofware and write a user's manual for the software. It has lots of hidden features that make it worth the effort.Remember music is to enjoy and is not something easy to learn. It takes work and lots of practice. This product gives you the edge to learn and concentrate on the music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, there is a better option though...
Power Tab software is pretty much the same thing and if you're looking for something better than Power Tab, then this isn't it either. It plays the tab back and it sounds a little better than Power Tab but that ain't worth dropping sixty dollas on alone. Power Tab ... free and just as good.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Software is So Complicated
So complicated and confusing you can't use it.No manuel to read.No costomer support.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never again
I should have read the Amazon reviews before I bought this piece of garbage. It kept on crashing forcing me to reboot the computer

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad, Bad Runaround Support
I cannot believe that after being bounced from sales through tech support and back that they refused to sell me a replacement breakout box for only $10 max. They insisted that I have to purchase the entire set with card $70 for me to get the piece I need. What a rip! If anything should happen to your breakout box component you're gonna be ripped off trying to replace it. Good-bye Pinnacle.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dishonest company
Do not buy anything from Pinnacle. Their software deceptively leads you to believe that you need to purchase further programs to burn DVDs. I did so and got incorrect activation codes twice before requesting a refund which they have refused to give even though the product does not work and meets their advertised return policy. I have filed a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for deceptive trade policies and knowingly offering defective products. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A powerful upgrade from iMovie
At first blush, Final Cut Express 2 (FCE2) looks very intimidating. The interface is much different from iMovie. I looked around and discovered that everyone recommend the book "Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop" by Tom Wolsky ISBN:1578202566. The book helped understand the interface and the power locked into FCE2. I have easily created several projects that couldn't have been done in iMovie and I did them quicker in FCE2.
1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
Don't you hate yourself when you buy something when you know you shouldn't? I was persuaded by someone to buy Final Cut Express and an iMac computer. I had already purshased and learned to use Sony Screenblaster video software on my PC, without much trouble, but I was persuaded I had to goApple and Final Cut if I was going to be serious about making videos. The Final Cut Express that came with my iMac last June (2004) had a bug that I did not learn about until after months of working on a project. The bug causes the sound to get more and more unsynchronized the longer you work on it. Apple knew about this bug as early aslast Feb. when they released a patch. I found out about the bug on my own, the hard way. The patch will not correct work already done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised and Relieved
I had heard good and bad about PowerDVD 5, but since upgrading to Windows XP I hadn't been able to play DVD's on my computer so I ordered PowerDVD 5. The price was right and I figured I really had nothing to lose! Installation was incredibly easy, and the picture and sound qualities are great! The controls are extremely easy to use, and the instructions are a snap to understand. I am very glad I ordered PowerDVD 5, and I recommend it highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars There is a patch!
After reading all the negative reviews here at Amazon, I decided to try PowerDVD 5 myself and this is what I have to say: after installing the software I tried to play a copyrighted DVD and PowerDVD would give me an error message "can't play copyrighted DVD's". I contacted CyberLink customer service by email and they advised me to download a patch. After installing the patch everything worked fine. I'm pretty satisfied with PowerDVD 5, it runs fine, even on my old IBM notebook with Pentium III processor. Can't be beaten at that price!

1-0 out of 5 stars Tech Support--ha!
This stuff is not worth it.I can't use it to watch copyrighted DVDs, and tech support is less than useless.I've had similar experiences to topher66 and Recif. If you do a google search on the error number (F4941436) you'll find lots of people have the same problem.Wouldn't it be nice if they just fixed the problem? ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
I strongly recommend against this product. I bought it with the intention of transferring some of my DVD collection over to my new video iPod. I discovered after purchasing Roxio dVD Copy 2 Premier that it does not copy protected DVD's, which made 99% of my collection uncopyable. I'm not a pirate, I just don't want to pay for movies in the iPod format that I already own. With a little further research, I discovered that Roxio was the only product of its kind that does not copy protected DVD's. There's more. I found 2 DVD's in my large collection that were copyable, neither of which I really wanted to put on my iPod. Just the same, I tried to do so. I followed the directions carefully and waited literally hours for Roxio to copy the movies directly to my iPod. After both times, when I looked in the Movie directory of the iPod--they weren't there! Needless to say, I'll never buy another Roxio product. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This product deserves negative stars!!!
Wow, did I get burned. I had a good experience with Magix's Audio Cleaning Lab, so I just assumed this product would be good-- not bothering to check out the reviews here in advance. I bought it at Best Buy this afternoon and threw it in the trash this evening! I have also been burned by the Sony Sound Forge $70 version (worthless) and the CakeWalk Pyro software. $30 down the drain... ouch!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even consider buying this!!!
Not that any more negative reviews of the product are really needed, but this product is a disaster at best. The only real feature that I could get to work was the radio stations.I bought it to do some voice recordings.I worked for 3 hours trying to get the recording to save to no avail. It is difficult to use and I am not even sure that half of the "features" actually do work.I am going to try and return mine to Best Buy tomorrow and cross my fingers that I can at least get a store credit:-)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
A Microcenter employee recommended this product and it was a horrible experience. After struggling with it for hours I finally went on the web to find help and found these other reviews.Everything they say is true. The manual and tutorials are wastes of time. It's too late for me, but before you buy anything try Audacity, a free music editor and recording software -- shareware. It's everything that MPe Maker isn't. ... Editorial Review

Adobe Premiere 6.0 is a powerful and surprisingly easy-to-use professional video-editing tool. This latest version comfortably closes the gap between DV and Web, and has new support for DV on the Windows platform and cross-platform support for all of the leading Web video formats. Premiere 6.0 provides direct support for IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.Link) on both Windows and Mac OS. By using only the DV port on your hard drive, an IEEE 1394 connection, and your DV camcorder, you get perfect digital video in Premiere 6.0 every time. Premiere 6.0 offers built-in support for all types of DV devices, ranging from consumer to professional. By simply connecting a DV device to the IEEE 1394 port on a Windows or Macintosh computer, you can capture DV clips and begin editing right away. On a computer with an IEEE 1394 port, there's no need to install additional hardware, such as a video-capture card. Just select the appropriate DV-device manufacturer and model in the Device Control dialog box, and Premiere 6.0 assigns the video-input settings that are appropriate to that device--making the video-capture process more precise. Premiere 6.0's Movie Capture window now includes a Settings tab and a Logging tab. By using the Settings tab, you can view and edit video-capture settings, change the capture location, and set device-control preferences. By using the Logging tab, you can log video clips quickly, set In and Out points, name clips and reels, batch-capture multiple logged video clips effortlessly, and add comments about each clip.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars almost perfect...
Oh, i so wanted to give this program 5 stars. However, the glaring weakness that is the helpfile chops off a whole star. Considering my utter frustration as i plodded and plunked away trying to learn the program, i could have chopped off 2 stars for the aggravation. But I am not going to chop the whole tree down because of a few mushrooms growing on the side. Once you learn the program, it is a lot of fun. For us guys just trying to edit the family videos, its got more than enough features. If you want to go further, it has lots of other stuff though I will admit, im just in it to make cheesy little horror films with my buddies and edit the family videos. I can't speak for the professionals who do this for a living. 4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use...
Adobe Photoshop took me a while to get used to when I first got it, but learning to use Premiere was a lot easier though I'm still learning. I would use it more often if it didn't take up so much RAM. After I upgraded my OS to Windows XP, I've used Windows Movie Maker for my basic video editing needs. Recommended only if you're in need of professionalism.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Program but....
I jut purchased my first editing program adobe premiere 6.0 and it's really fun but....I was amazed that if you owned a pc that I couldn't import music right off of a music cd.I have another program that came with the computer I purchased and it imports music cd's just fine with out having to covert them to a wav file.I paid how much for premiere, and it can't do what this free program can?Ca'mon premiere lets step it up and add this wonderful feature. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great if you don't need DVD authoring
All the applications in the suite are fantastic with one exception: EncoreDVD. This piece of software is full of bugs and inexplicable system errors. I have never been able to complete one project. Every time, my project gets corrupted for no reason and then need to be rebuilt from scratch. If you don't believe me, please visit the Adobe User Forum and read through all the messages from users crying for help with program and system errors. If you plan on authoring DVDs, you will probably have to do like me: buy another application such as DVDit.

1-0 out of 5 stars 0 for licensing and tech support
Beware of Adobe's licensing. The studio comes with one serial number for all the included software, which means that you cannot use its individual components as standalone products. So if you want to install Photoshop and Illustrator on one desktop, and Premiere and After Effects on another, you are out of luck.
5-0 out of 5 stars This program or should I say this group of programs is so cool. It's a must buy!
If you're reading this. You are thinking about dropping some serious cash so I will try and help you out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy
Don't waste your money, especially if you have Studio 9.I wish I could give it zero stars. It's buggier than anything I've used from Pinnacle.Long audio dropouts capturing from digital tape 50% of the time and I never could transfer a finished project back to digital tape with Make Movie. It works fine with Studio 9.Pinnacle tech support by email is responsive but of no help. They just pull you through a knothole with useless downloads, updates, new drivers, etc.

1-0 out of 5 stars Crashes when adding music tracks- Not recommended
I unfortunately upgraded from version 9, which ran fine to version 10, which crashes systematically when trying to add a music track to a 40 minutes DVD project. All 10.x versions, includingthe latest 10.5.2 patch exhibit the same problem. Technical support was fast and friendly but unhelpful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pinnacle Studio is a waste of money
If it were possible to give less than 1 star, I would. This has been the most frustrating software I have ever used.It is obvious that it was not adequately tested before release.I now know where Dilbert works. I have been able to get through simple projects, but as soon as I start making any changes to the video or still images, the program crashes.Sometimes you can't even load a saved project without crashing the software.Pinnacle Studio users learn to save often (and reboot often).I have a 3 Gig processor and 128 Meg video card.Thinking that more memory would help, I upgraded from 1 to 2 Meg and increased my virtual memory to the maximum allowed.Nothing helped.I downloaded the Kill It All software to remove as many of the resident applications running in the background as possible. It still crashes.I am surprised that no one has filed a class action suit against Pinnacle. If there is one, let me know, I would take part. After one of those frustrating editing sessions, I did a search for alternate video editing software and found Sony's Vegas Movie Studio software.I downloaded a trial copy and was so impressed that I ordered it.It includes all of the features that Pinnacle charges extra for and works much better. No more crashes.I will be saving a fortune just on asprin alone. Thanks Sony.Anybody interested in a used copy of Pinnacle Studio? ...
